Time to Revive Great Player Names from the Past

Can't beat Deacon Jones or Red Grange. Those names just sound like guys who eat boxes of nails for breakfast. -
Say Weeden is there in Round 2
RuntheDamnBall replied to RuntheDamnBall's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
based on? Plus, what this poll presupposes is, maybe they didn't. -
I have to think this would at least be entertained by the Bills if Weeden falls to #41. Yes, he's old. But if he weren't... it seems like he could be looked at as a top prospect available for pennies on the dollar. I like some other undervalued guys like Kellen Moore - round 4 or later - for Chan's system, but I wouldn't mind it if they went in this direction. Is it great to draft a guy who will be 28 and whom you have no illusions of starting in 2012? Maybe not. But, he provides an upgrade over Thigpen at the most important position on the field, and maybe even an insurance policy if Fitz bombs (which few of us are hoping for, of course). It's possible that the Bills could feel the same way, and there are ways to spin not upgrading in the first two rounds at WR, OT (less so, IMO), TE, or CB. Given who will be on the board when the Bills make selections in the first two rounds, this might be the most interesting draft the Bills have had in awhile (and hopefully not for reasons like trading up for a bum!).

Not a Good Showing for Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford
RuntheDamnBall replied to Owen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can't believe I'm saying this, but CB or WR seems like the pick, given the talent available and our position. Martin there in the second round might be great for us. If it's not CB in round 1, though, it seems like the drop-off is such that looking at other 2nd day slots is worth it, and no need to reach for one in R2. I like the TE and OT options in Round 2, especially if they take a WR in round 1. They may think that the WRs available in Round 2 will be worth waiting for, too. Who knows. -
Make it so.

All Peyton Manning, all the time!

They had no NFL QBs before Manning came, either. So, there's that. -

Bills could realistically get Kalil
RuntheDamnBall replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The thing about trade proposals, is, what's to preclude some other team from offering more than the Bills to move up to that same slot? We're not the only horse in the race. Any team in a high slot needs to do due diligence, in creating a bidding war for an asset they wish to move. You'd be mad if the Bills didn't do the same (and some people believe they don't). -

I know, right! This has no way of not being amazing. We do have an Awesome God. -

You can tell Mark Anderson isn't quite as coveted as Mario Williams. The Bills had Mario visit with Jim Kelly. They took Mark Anderson to visit the new Bass Pro Shop. -

If the Bills were interested it wouldn't be to their advantage to leak that information. The more suitors out there, the higher the price becomes. That said, I don't think they are interested. Too high a salary for what they'd be bringing him in for. Once again, why trade a draft pick for him and take on higher salary years when they could have had him in the draft in the first place? If they didn't want him then, I can't see why they would want him now at that price, as a backup and utility man. -

No one, but no one, is holding a gun to the kid's head and saying "play pro sports for 5-7 million dollars a year," even if he doesn't see the field. I feel sorry for the kid's situation in that he got drafted by a team in major upheaval, but you can't control where you get an opportunity in the NFL. You either take it and make the most of it, which by all appearances Tebow has, or you pull a Ricky Williams when it finally gets to you, and roll one and hang out in a monastery after you've packed away some millions. The attention and hypermediated environment are the things that make NFL football so lucrative for these guys. It's the price to be paid, especially for the stardom is accompanied by bigger dollar figures. -

Why are "bag of footballs" and "gatorade cooler" not options? Wouldn't that be more properly characterized as the "buckle?" -

1) Probably wasn't the coach's decision. 2) Flutie really brought us many playoff victories and never hung his receivers out to dry. 3) Flutie rode a great defense to prominence (a great defense devised by said "idiot coach.") Look at the stats. Flutie was a nice story, but once the league figured out his game, it didn't take long to shut him down. Look at his San Diego tenure and you can see how he was a "natural winner" who led them to victory when all the rest of the pieces weren't in order for him. I'm sure Charger fans were clamoring for Flutie after all 8 wins in 22 games. I'm not going to say he didn't help out the Bills. He did. But he was also an egotistical jerk who walked around like he owned the place when in reality he had a nice foundation laid for him. He encouraged a divisive locker room, and it's a lousy teammate who does that. I am not going to say that Rob Johnson would have led the Bills to the promised land, but it was poor special teams play, and not QB play, that lost them a chance at a title in '99. Flutie had already stopped "working out"in '99 as the stats bear out, with a 55% completion rating, declining yards per attempt, and a 19-16 TD to INT ratio - the kind of stat that made JP Losman suck. -

Stupid Bills, always behind the curve. If Ralph weren't so cheap he would just purchase the cloning technology and we could have had six Kelsays by now. -

PFT is reporting that he left town last night and is simultaneously in Chicago, Baltimore, and Tennessee. Also, his plane was grounded after it got stuck in a flock of deers. -

If the Bills are in a position where camp cuts really hurt, where they have to get rid of a guy they'd really like to keep, and are afraid of another team picking them up, then I think we can all be happy. -

Honestly, he might make Troup expendable if the latter can't stay healthy. He looked better in the playing time he got. -
Sign Roscoe Parrish, he is still looking
RuntheDamnBall replied to Chuckknox's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This team needs more WRs with size and skill. Roscoe has never had size and he is not going to get faster at 30 years old. He had his chance and could not stay off the IR. Best to reserve his spot for someone who has upside. I am fully comfortable with Nelson in the slot in the meantime, and Roscoe isn't going to make a contribution worth $1MM+ as a #4-5. -

Robert Meachem visits Bills, signs with SD
RuntheDamnBall replied to mrags's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That was a dick move by Meachem. He could have at least left town before spurning the Bills. That said, if he's that kind of guy, we don't need him. Laurent Robinson, please. I'm sold.
