He has really grown on me. I would still have traded the pick that netted him, our entire 2012 draft (gambling, I know, because I do like Cordy Glenn) and many future picks to get RGIII, but that is not Gilmore's fault.

Donald Jones Cannot Catch
RuntheDamnBall replied to Storm Front's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Uh, let's see: Chandler. Lee Smith caught a TD today. Stevie. TJ is getting open deep but overthrown to half the time. Two great running backs. No David Nelson security blanket, but give me a break. Who has Tom Brady had to throw to all these years? One consistent target (Welker), some quality TEs, and a bunch of rotating parts. The year that Moss excelled would be the exception. Good QBs hit the open man. Fitz can locate him but can't hit the target. I love the Amish Rifle, but he's a backup. -
Rookie, thrown into the fire. He is doing all one could expect of him, especially with the garbage being thrown out there at LB.

50-60 yard FG's are off the Bills table

You forgot to mention that this was in a dome. Asinine. -
Donald Jones Cannot Catch

Jones has really impressed me this season, and I have had a hard time believing in the guy until about a month ago. Again, today, Fitz hung him out to dry today. Fitz also overthrew him, SJ, and CJ wide open with open field in front of them. DJ can play. Our quarterback cannot, with consistency. -

Try again, because the defense is not surrendering those special teams points. -
Punting with 3 mins left

Punting from their 35 was worse. Can't play not to lose when you aren't winning, you idiots. -
I think the fact that the bills have Aaron Williams and not Kaepernick or Dalton is great enough an indictment. But Who's to say they would get the coaching they need in buffalo?

Never done with this team, but I've definitely checked out on the Chan-Fitz regime. Nice guys, but they are paid to win football games and they're offering a very poor return on everyone's investment. It's a shame that they couldn't win a game where Mario dominated and Spiller ran wild, but anyone with half a brain knows why.

It's different today with a rookie salary cap. Just sayin'. Picks are more coveted and actually become a bit easier to move, yet more valuable because they become a vehicle to acquire premier low-cost talent. That is to say, in the past if the Bills would have traded many picks to move up, they would have also been trading into a pretty pricey salary range. This is no longer really the case, at least not commensurate with real value.

I think both sides can be right. Clearly the Bills' talent at CB and LT was not good enough to merit passing up those picks and then some for RGIII. But I think it can be pretty well argued that at this point, the Bills could afford to cough up some premier picks, bite the bullet and keep guys like Levitre and Byrd and Wood from leaving (instead of drafting their replacements - a likely scenario with at least some of these picks), and get their QB if they think he is there in this draft. Defense is a problem, but more dynamic QB play with a stronger deep game and better mid-range accuracy could put them over the top. If there is a way to pry the pick that nets Geno Smith, Barkley or Jones if they really believe in him (not sure I do), or one of the other top-tier guys, now is the time. If there is a guy even close to RGIII's quality of makeup and talent, they have to pay the price to acquire him. Even if Fitz is the projected starter in 2013, they have to invest wisely in the future at QB. We know Fitz has a ceiling - it likely falls short of the playoffs. Regardless, if they aren't sending every scout they have to get multiple looks at the college QBs in question, they are a failure as a scouting dept. I'm hoping that is not the case.

J. Martin got abused a few times yesterday. Very happy with the Bills' choice here.

I won't rehash what others are already saying about Kyle Moore's effectiveness, Merriman's energy, and the overall better play of the OL. And I'm happy about a win. But I will say that on several occasions last night, I just thought to myself, "Tom Brady would not have missed that play. He'd be carving this same D up right now." I'm specifically thinking of the play across the middle in the 3rd quarter, where Barnett is again dropped back in coverage against a bigger Miami WR, and Tannehill just threw it yards short. Barnett was chasing his man from about 4 yards behind, sucking wind. As we know on the other side of it, usually, those small failures add up and sink a team. Against NE, that same play is probably a strike, in stride, going to Gronkowski, quite possibly for a TD. Morals of the story are that this defense still needs linebackers, we are lucky that Miami is so bad, and we are lucky that they play a rookie QB. True, good DL play can cause a QB to make poor decisions, but I'll have to see that kind of play week in, week out against better teams to believe the Bills can overcome their deficiencies at LB. Another little play that was huge - saw this mentioned in another thread - was that Eric Wood fumble recovery to maintain possession in the 4th. How many times have we seen the Bills cough up that same ball? Glad to see Wood going hard for it, and that that particular bounce went our way.

Fitzpatrick on Spikes: 'I think he's a punk at times'
RuntheDamnBall replied to Lofton80's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Against me? What in holy hell are you talking about? Also, I was complimenting Brady in that he is generally not stupid enough to take on a defender head on like that anymore. -
Another argument against cable...

Call it what you will, and Clements definitely goes high (not helmet to helmet) but you will never see Brady running in an open lane like that again and not sliding. There's a reason, and QBs are protected if they do. If they take on a tackler like that, they can expect certain doom. Or, I guess, in the Bills of today's case, they can expect to juke out the defender, slip past an arm-tackle and then draw a penalty. -
That, and lumbersports. Those were the days.

Yeah, I'm sure that is the first thought running through every player's mind as he paces around the deck of this sinking ship. "Why don't I 1) Get a 15-yard penalty 2) Make myself look undisciplined to potential future employers as well as my current coaches 3) Potentially get fined 4) Potentially get ejected ... all to get 'even' (?) in a football game that I'll be that much closer to losing by giving Tom Brady 15 free yards." I hope you don't waste too much time thinking about this kind of stuff.

A little of column A, a little of column B. This is a passing league, now, but it is so foolish to not get Spiller the ball more often. When this team has difficulty cashing it in, it ought to be looking to get the ball in the hands of the guy who is its biggest home run threat. He can't carry the team - you're right about that. But he can take over a game, and the Bills are consistently giving Fitz those chances instead of Spiller.
-
Spiller can never carry a team that won't give its most talented player the ball. I still am in the "give Dareus a free pass" club. Give him a year to recover from this indescribable tragedy, and give him a defensive coordinator who knows his ass from a hole in the ground, and you'll see him back in business, I think. That is, unless Bills culture has really seeped into his veins. I would take Polian and Wade back in a heartbeat. It would take 90+ year old Ralph Wilson admitting he's wrong, getting on his knees, and begging both of them with promises of money and control. In other words, I'm not holding my breath. Glenn is coming back off of injury. I expect rustiness. I feel for Aaron Williams but welcome Ron Brooks. Fitz can't carry the team, and that's the end of that story. It really doesn't matter if he plays his heart out, because he leaves some easy yards on the ground - making his teammates fight for harder ones. If he could just f---ing once hit Stevie on a corner route when he has his man beaten by 3 steps, I could agree with you.
