  1. I'll take "the coaches aren't good enough and much of the talent actually is" for $400, Alex. Did Jim Harbaugh assemble that whole team, or did he just better know what to do with them? If you want to call Jim Harbaugh some kind of genius that magically made that defense better, or claim that his shrewd acquisition of Donte Whitner was the glue that put it all together, be my guest. It took time for SF; Harbaugh saw that the team had most of the pieces. I think a fearless coach would say the same of the Bills, and a good coach would know how to win with them as constituted. Indy doesn't count. I now firmly believe they tanked on purpose to get Luck. That has ZERO to do with hiring the right men and it might have a lot to do with the "right man" they had (Polian) being fired. I feel like we are a QB away from being a playoff team, and a QB, TE, and a few LBs away from beating NE once a season and being more in the conversation. Obviously, we have to stop losing OLmen to season-ending injuries with such regularity, too. Does this excuse drafting Aaron Williams instead of a QB? Of course not. But there's a reason this team has never been bad enough to go 3-13 or lower and get that top pick. It's because there are actually some decent players. Complain about the missteps but also realize these are the guys who found Urbik, Chandler, Nelson, Pears - they'd be quality players on any team. Kyle Moore could be another of those guys. The raw material is there for a good DL. Brooks could be a good CB. You have to examine all transactions, not just the high-profile ones. I make zero excuses for the Bills FO, though. If these guys don't get a QB soon, though, hang 'em high. I am not satisfied with Chan and his stubborn ways, either.
  2. I'm gonna voice disappointment with the current regime's performance while calling out your thesis. Free agency has changed the game completely, and Polian / Levy did not have to contend with it while building the Super Bills. And QBs are way more important in this era than they were in the 80s - though certainly Kelly's presence helped considerably. That said, Simms, Hostetler, Doug Williams, Mark Rypien, and Troy Aikman won Super Bowls in the Bills' heyday. Marino, Elway and Kelly -- all better QBs by most measures -- didn't. Today, it's rare that you win without the QB. I'll call the Bills out on not selecting one outside of Levi Brown during Nix's tenure, but even if they had gotten one, it could have been Gabbert, Ponder or someone else leading a non-playoff team right now. Patience in building a complete team is more necessary, now, and it is extremely difficult to both identify and be in a position to select a great QB. The Bills need to be aggressive even if it costs them in some ways this offseason. If they don't do that, my patience will go out the window in the same way yours seems to have.
  3. Booooooooooooooooooooo. Farrell sucks. Enjoy him as you watch Shane Victorino run into outs with Papi at the plate.
  4. How about "four QBs, none of them starters"?
  5. I wonder sometimes - and get sick thinking about it - that Chan's approval is a big part of the process of drafting a QB, and he hasn't seen one that he would have gotten behind. His really defensive endorsements of Fitz give me pause in that regard. The last thing we need is another Losman / Bledsoe situation where the coach is married to the veteran to keep the other veterans happy -- and/or to keep his job rather than suffer growing pains. Again, I don't think Losman was the answer, but his own coach was sabotaging him at more than one turn. We talk about coach-killer QBs. But what if our coach's strong preference for smart veterans with presence means he doesn't have the patience for a young guy, who needs playing time to get better and develop on-field smarts?
  6. I was gonna say Wilfork, too. Harrison and B.Spikes are the dirtiest lowlifes.
  7. Hard times, my friend. Hard times. At least Wright is a career Met, though I personally would have traded him for a boatload of prospects since their window doesn't seem to align with Wright's prime.
  8. Do you think those people have a right to treat you like ****, though? I guess if it makes you feel like more of a man to curse out pro athletes from the safety of a paid bleacher seat, that's your terrifically sad prerogative. It sounds to me like you are more interested in getting some aggression out than in the joy of seeing this team succeed. I'm as disappointed as anyone but I can move on.
  9. Is there any class of people that feels entitled to come to your job and harrass you? These guys are thick skinned and they have to be because there are enough people who think like you. Consider this the next time someone is complaining about a Bill turning someone down for an autograph or talking **** about Buffalo. You represent all of us out there.
  10. To me this suggests a coaching problem.
  11. Again with the facts. These guys have seen with their own eyes that Donald Jones is bad, bad, bad. Get with the program!
  12. Ok, you're right, and obviously if we had a better receiver than Donald Jones that Ryan Fitzpatrick would still be incapable of throwing the ball to, we'd be in the playoff hunt. Marcus Easley is probably that guy and the coaching staff just won't give him his shot. Every other NFL team had a chance to sign him until he was promoted from the practice squad a few weeks ago, but what they don't know is that he is the reincarnation of Jerry Rice.
  13. The Mets have won the whole shebang a few times. They are more like baseball's version of the Jets. The Bills are the Astros of the NFL, or maybe the Rangers, though their future is brighter.
  14. Where does the 'bot put these guys right now?
  15. I can't believe that I'm suggesting that the Redskins have drawn up a blueprint for success, but I'm kind of with ya.
  16. Well, the Sabres won't grace us with their presence, the Bills are again on the outside looking in with only a QB sweepstakes to look forward to, and I've had it. Pitchers and catchers report in February. Consider this your hot stove thread. I am jazzed about the Blue Jays' moves. The AL East is going to be formidable with the Yanks, Rays, an O's team that's gotten a taste of the playoffs, and a Red Sox team that is making big changes. For me, it's all about wanting to see John Farrell do a faceplant in his "dream job." The trade with the Marlins should announce that there is a serious Jays team in the East. In addition, the move to partner with the Bisons makes me very happy. What are you all looking forward to?
  17. This is very, very exciting. It's going to be amazing to see Syndergaard, Sanchez, Norris and Osuna come up through Buffalo. I am ordering a 10-pack of tickets and I am a Jays fan living in NYC. Good times await for those of us who have been waiting since '92-'93.
  18. I wasn't calling into question your fitness credentials. Game shape to me involves the mental repetitions of knowing routes and developing trust with the other role-players on the team. I will bite and say that if Easley was too good to ignore, someone other than a TBD poster would be beating his drum. My evidence is 4 TD catches and big games against NE, with some steady improvement and a remarkable drive-sustaining grab today. He is never going to be a Calvin Johnson, a DeSean Jackson or even an Ed McCaffrey, but I don't see his upgrade on the roster. If Easley gets his chance here or elsewhere, I'll eat my crow, but I see little basis for that opinion. Good day to you.
  19. Well, basically this: And also, Easley did not spend any time playing in 2010 or 2011. If you think it's that easy to get back into game shape after what amounts to a two-year layoff, you should probably join the team as a strength and conditioning coach. In the meantime, Jones is not playing himself off the team. He's contributing, and that's with a QB who can't hit the broad side of a barn half the time. I've said before that I think Jones is not elite, but he is far from a major problem on this team. The major problems are #14 and the man speaking into his ear.
  20. Hands down the funniest moment of the game.
  21. I don't think he's an elite #2 but few teams have such a luxury. And while this coaching staff has earned the scrutiny of questioning whether they are hiding Easley when he may in fact be better, Easley has proven little on his own. Provide the evidence. I see Jones with 6 games of four catches or more, and that is with a QB who can't hit his mark very often. Not bad for a #2 receiver on a team with two premier RBs and a quality TE.
  22. That the defense has improved over the course of the season after what were indisputably ghastly efforts. I'll attribute that to Mario's injury, Dareus' personal concerns, and a piss-poor LB corps. Still, in the past weeks, this defense has played well enough to win. It also got put into terrible field position against NE via offensive turnovers. The offense has no freaking excuses aside from that the coach can't employ his best weapons effectively, and the QB can not make the throws asked of him.
  23. Uh, he was a standout in both NE games, with TDs in both. TD against the Jets. TD against Tenn. He has made great strides this season, contributing against division rivals. Fitz has been directly responsible for plays that led to the Bills' defeat in all of those games. You need more than enlightenment. Trollin', Trollin',Trollin', keep those dogies trollin'!
  24. In the parlance of Bryce Harper, these are some clown posts, bro.
