Donte was only going to be picked at #8 by the Bills. Even if you buy that there was a taker at #14, 6 slots pre-rookie cap = the Bills giving him more than anyone else would have. And despite the many ways in which the Bills wronged Donte Whitner, they offered him the most money a second time. Whitner doesn't owe them anything but if he were less of a douche, we would simply be talking about what a drag it was to again lose a solid starter. His conduct makes that of the Bills somehow look more elegant. If he wants to fight a needless PR war against his former employer, he sure isn't any better at it than he is at covering a TE.

So Ray Lewis may have taken a banned substance

Supposedly the same stuff Melky Cabrera was using. I think it's supposed to promote faster healing and not muscle mass. I don't find that particular kind of "PED" that big of a deal, but let's not kid ourselves that these guys are generally trying to get whatever edge is available to them. -
The difference between #8 and #20, or #8 and the second round, pre-rookie salary cap, is vast. I stand by my statement. No other team was drafting him at #8 or moving up to do so. I am not defending the honor of the Bills because I think they were idiots for drafting this guy to begin with with greater needs on the board. He doesn't owe the Bills anything, but to badmouth a franchise that first made him a top ten pick, then offered him more money than he ended up taking on the open market is bad form at best. Did they jerk the guy around? Did they lowball him? If so, then he appears to have signed with a team that did worse. Luckily for him and for them, they hired a coach who knew what he was doing. If you're Whitner, just be gracious, say, "I wish it had worked out in Buffalo, some good players and friends left there, I've moved on..." and leave it at that. This is the same Whitner who told Bengals fans he'd signed with them on Twitter then signed with SF, who made brash guarantees while with the Bills... He can play safety at an average level and draws unneeded attention with his mouth.

Yes, but his is not an open market, unless the Ravens are dumb enough not to franchise him. So you're talking 5/100/40 guaranteed and then on top of that, two #1 picks. That's too steep a price, most likely.

yes! DICKEY THE BEST! Difference is the Jays have actually won titles, and have been a competitive team in baseball's toughest division the past 20 years despite having little to show for it. I've never had a better feeling watching sports than the jays 92-93. Touch em all Joe!!!

2011 draft was before Fitz's extension, though.

Johnny Manziel - QB - Texas A & M

Johnny Manziel - QB - Texas A & M

Better yet, let's do Manziel in Round 1, Tajh Boyd in Round 2, and Aaron Murray in Round 3. One of them is bound to take the cash and the offer of a % of the franchise, and other NFL franchises will have to bargain with the Bills for the rights to the others while the matter is being settled in court. Fortune indeed favors the bold. This is the best idea of 2013. -
What two QB'S do we draft and in what rounds?
RuntheDamnBall replied to Dat Dude's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe, or maybe Big Ben gets a broken leg in training camp because Troy Vincent doesn't like the cut of his jib, and then he gets thrown into a game with no practice reps, and the Meathead coach doesn't commit to anything. You are wildly underestimating the ability of the Buffalo Bills to screw things up. -
Bills should trade for Josh Freeman of the Bucs

That accuracy is the thing that worries me a little bit, but I like Freeman. If TB wants to get rid of him, and that's a big if, I'd be interested at the cost of a swap of firsts and our second, maybe a little more. -

They are top ten this year and they aren't exactly in the driver's seat. -
That presumes there is a winner they want to go to that can afford them. There is NE, which is the scariest of all possible propositions, but they aren't usually big splash FA players. They find lots and lots of gold in support roles and undervalued FAs and draft stars of their own. Lots of players, especially linemen, struggle when they move to another team as FAs. The linemen especially rely on some continuity and familiarity with their linemates. It would not surprise me to see Levitre place some premium on this, though not a big one. I think Levitre likes it here and likes his linemates and would like to succeed with Buffalo. It remains to be seen if the Bills are equal to that task and have a commitment to keeping him.

I simply mean that Fitz has maxxed out his potential and that Nassib's is an unknown quantity. I want no part of Nassib in round one. But one game is only one game. -

Yeah. I think there will be someone good out of this draft, just because the demand is there for quality QBs and someone has to be willing enough to put in the work with his match of talent. I don't know who that will be. I like Geno Smith the best because of his accuracy, arm and TD/INT ratio, but there are other intriguing guys in the draft. Manuel is definitely one of them for me. None of these guys have zero question marks, but I don't know if you can say that of more than 5 players in any draft. -

This strategy sounds lovely in principle, but no one yet has convinced me that there is a rationale for a very bad 2013 team to trade away the pick that, for now, would be Manziel - presuming he even comes out. It takes two to make a deal, and I can't envision a scenario where the Bills hold the best cards, even if they want to give away the farm. -

Nassib probably has a higher ceiling and a better arm right now but Fitz's knowledge of the game is probably an equalizer, and really, you don't want the equal of Fitz, you want someone much better. -

Since two years ago, by which you probably mean 1.5 years ago after the hot start, the Bills have gone 7-18. Factor in that hot start and they are STILL only 12-20 in the past two seasons. The O-Line has been phenomenal. The WRs and LBs are no great shakes but better teams have done more with the same level of WR talent and it starts with a QB who can hit them when they are wide f---ing open. Fitz cannot reliably do so. If he could we wouldn't be having this conversation.
