Would be interested to see your rankings. I do like both of these guys, but would take Rodgers, Brees, Brady, Manning for a couple more years, a healthy Big Ben, probably Luck, a healthy RGIII and maybe Russell Wilson over both. Not sure about Eli, and there is probably someone else that I'm foolishly forgetting.

Donte Whitner 7th Worst Safety
RuntheDamnBall replied to Homey D. Clown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wonder if any Niners fans are hurting Donte's feewings on Twitter. -
By a wide margin the most entertaining SB halftime show I've ever seen.
-
No, just old, not racist.
-
Old person complaint that has been levied at least since the days of Little Richard and Chuck Berry.

She can definitely sing. She is also definitely a construction of the entertainment industry and heavy on the artifice. Let's face it, bands of people who just enjoy writing songs and making music together are not the flavor of the month. But there is plenty of room for all of it out there. I muted it and watched her while listening to My Bloody Valentine's new record for a surrealist halftime experience.

Stevie Johnson doesn't workout in the offseason

I'm glad that this thread has brought out all of the armchair strength and conditioning coaches and doctors. -

Give him credit, he probably did lots of 12 oz. curls and more. -
Donte Whitner 7th Worst Safety
RuntheDamnBall replied to Homey D. Clown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thank you. Also, I said a "safety like Whitner," not Whitner himself, could be had in the second. Let's note: 2 42 Danieal Manning FS Abilene Christian Chicago Bears 2 43 Roman Harper SS Alabama New Orleans Saints 4 105 Ko Simpson FS South Carolina Buffalo Bills 5 138 Pat Watkins FS Florida State Dallas Cowboys 5 146 Dawan Landry SS Georgia Tech Baltimore Ravens 6 207 Antoine Bethea SS Howard Indianapolis Colts There's also Bernard Pollard at #54 overall as a CB by the Chiefs, and Cortland Finnegan in the 7th round. 4 quality safeties there, including two who play / have played in Tampa 2 defenses, two selected in Round 5 and 6. AND THE BILLS PICKED TWO AVERAGE ONES. THANKS MARV+DICK! -
Donte Whitner 7th Worst Safety

I'm pretty sure that this time the chalk was right-on. Nobody had Whitner pegged where the Bills took him because he was not an elite safety prospect. You didn't need the benefit of hindsight; this pick was questionable from the get-go. A safety like Whitner could have been had in the second round and, hell, that's where Sanders himself came from. Every observer knew that the Bills had trouble on both sides of the line. If they hadn't, they wouldn't have overpaid for schmoes like Dockery and Langston Walker during Marv's tenure. -
I think having to listen to these guys kill time for half an hour really proved how hopelessly vanilla they are.

Alex Smith--nothing to do w availability next yr
RuntheDamnBall replied to Tcali's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Smith doesn't seem like that kind of dude. That kind of play wouldn't get him far in the long run, anyway. You are always playing for your next contract in the NFL. -
My wife liked it but her tastes are quirky.

Fine post. Can't say I disagree with anything you've said here. Who do you see the Ravens losing as a result of having to (somewhat over)pay Flacco?

Alex Smith--nothing to do w availability next yr
RuntheDamnBall replied to Tcali's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know why he wouldn't want a super bowl ring. He'll likely get a chance to start again elsewhere, but nothing tells me he would have wanted to lose the game. -
Pass the dutchie.

God screwed the ravens the past 4 years.

NICE COVERAGE CLOWN. -
Here's a couple of things I hadn't really thought about that make me far more interested in getting Alex Smith. 1) He lost his job because he admitted to his coaches that he had a concussion and should not be playing. A few people, maybe even some NFL players, would look at this as a sign of weakness, but I see it as a very smart man treating his body and his brain with respect, and doing so even when it could have cost him his job. I want that kind of awareness in a football player. It's selfless to avoid the lie when you are not going to be in a good enough position to lead your team, physically. 2) the myriad reports that he is helping Kaepernick and prepping as the starter really do warm me up to A. Smith. He has said he is just being the kind of teammate that he hopes that others would be to him. I am more sold on the idea of Alex Smith than ever and if Marrone and Hackett could really tailor a system to him, this team is free to pick the QB it thinks has the most potential, even if he needs to sit and learn for awhile. Smith, meanwhile, could be the next Drew Brees - a guy who finally came into his own, lost his job to the new regime's heir apparent, and goes on to even greater success. I would trade a draft pick for him based on these character traits and the success he has had with Harbaugh.

Simmons article questioning Ray Lewis
RuntheDamnBall replied to Bronc24's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The thing I don't really care for about Simmons is that if you were to turn this around and asked him about his beloved Patriots or Red Sox (known championship juicers, at least where the Sox are concerned) and said, "well, you've gotta ask the question," he'll get all bent out of shape. He has the right idea but his motive (discrediting the "leader" of the team that knocked the Pats out) is suspect, when the likely reality is that every team has players using performance enhancers. I also still frankly don't give a damn if these guys who are taking a beating day in, day out, are also taking something that helps them to heal faster. Should be a difference in the NFL eye between drugs that help build muscle mass and drugs that promote faster healing of injuries, especially if a doctor could administer them. -
Stevie Johnson doesn't workout in the offseason
RuntheDamnBall replied to ET1062's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ha. Love it. Yeah, I don't know anybody who has ever gotten hurt overdoing it while working out. Besides, who knows what he means when he refers to working out? I am pretty sure he isn't sitting around with a family-style bucket of Cheez Doodles and a case of Budweiser all winter. He probably still does stretching / yoga / running / things to keep in general shape. If he takes any time off, I'm sure he deserves it. Get mad at the guys who can't or won't produce. Stevie has been one of the few consistently fun and positive contributors to the team, despite his mistakes. -
No talk between Bills and Byrd / Levitre
RuntheDamnBall replied to BeastMode54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't see why that's a big deal. They've probably talked because they want to discuss the tender that will be placed on him, as that will dictate his negotiating power with other teams. With Levitre and Byrd one of them will be franchised and the other will probably hit the open market. I would hope that each player would give the Bills a chance to match any offer, but who knows what these two want. Many people would probably not turn down an offer to move cross country and get a 5x raise, even if they could stay for a 4x raise. It would be sad, you'd leave friends behind, but you'd also be taking advantage of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I hope that the allure of staying and building something in Buffalo would be there, but I cannot blame them in the least for not acting like us lifelong Bills fans would.
