What was their insurance policy with the 19th pick? Do you even read what you write? What other QBs would you have drafted at our slot, available in the past two years? Which one of them has led his team to anything? This season was Whaley's first draft without Nix in the fold, btw. I wouldn't have minded seeing him draft Bridgewater or Carr, but the jury is out on both and it's not like they led their team to anything special in 2014.

See the Matt Ryan thread. Why on earth would the Giants make a potential HOF QB available when a new coach needs to lean on his QB? Their plan B is Ryan Nassib. Yuck. Here I thought it was about how the players performed on the field. If I could just think positive, maybe Bryce Brown wouldn't have fumbled.

QBR is bogus but YPA is traditionally a pretty good indicator.

You can appreciate what Orton brought without sugar-coating it or introducing hypotheticals. Clearly, people who like EJ think that he could have provided some of the (at times, very rough) quarterbacking that Orton brought without changing the playoff picture. You believe that Orton could have won the Houston game. That seems unlikely to me given the rust he had to shake off, and that they were playing an All-World defensive lineman who simply owned that game. We can agree to disagree and that's also an act of civility.

That's why I want them to sign Matt Moore.

Gug, that last one is a bit too incendiary for me. He did get things back into a steady place and it was well-reported how good he was in working with his receivers.

I think his retirement clarifies some things that a few of us were seeing in his performance. If there is even a whiff of quit in your quarterback, you don't stand a chance. I have to imagine we can find a guy of comparable talent with more desire.

No doubt. A few of us feel that EJ could have put up Orton's requisite single touchdown drive and a few figgies, but I'm willing to admit I could be wrong.

Yup. He would be "nasty" and "bring toughness."

I see it a little more neutral (and really, out of no reason other than blind hope and some of Hackett / Whaley's statements). He is, for me, very much in a "show me" position. He has to prove it. That could be asset management in either case. If he is done here, they don't want to torpedo his trade value. If he isn't, bad-mouthing him serves zero purpose. I am not sure that a boom/bust QB like any of those first three mentioned are a good idea, but I don't really know what's a good idea. I think Matt Moore could probably provide Brad Johnson-level quarterbacking if they are content with that.
