For what it's worth, the Pata haven't made any signings either and they stand to lose a very good tackle, a go-to receiver, and more. I think the Bills' start to the FA period has sucked but for the necessary release of Fitz, but there is time. And there will be good team-friendly deals in the game of musical chairs, to acquire players who aren't premier but are close to as good as the guys making big $.
It's funny. One of the situations cited here - Flutie/Johnson - pretty much tells us why this kind of strategy could backfire. I can't imagine many QBs prepped for the NFL sharing the job or being happy about it even if it brought the team success. There's just too much ego and too much money at stake. I suppose it could work with a combo of journeymen, like you say, but less likely with a younger, more touted player and a veteran paired up. That said, I could see Jason Campbell and T Jax working well as this kind of combo with Manuel brought in to groom.
That second paragraph of yours is weird. If anything, cars and choppers do a heck of a lot more to take away all the fresh air. It's also funny that so much of the criticism has to do with attire. I haven't worn spandex ever, and I ride my bike often. I guess it's part of the culture, but for me a bike is just an easier way to get around than walking.
Your just a Kool Aid drinker.
What was Joe Flacco graded by almost every scout? Aaron Rodgers? Drew Brees? Tom Brady? Jim freaking Kelly (pick #14)? Colin Kaepernick? Want to continue on this one?
Also, if you want to talk about the defenses they've faced, how about the defenses on their own teams? Because the WVU defense cost that team at least three games this season.
Yeah, it's almost like Alabama didn't play Western Kentucky, Florida Atlantic, or Western Carolina. You play the teams on your schedule. Geno's stats across the whole season are fairly strong. I've pointed out in another thread that his stats from his "poor" Nov-Dec are actually fairly consistent if not remarkable.
BTW Geno had a great game against Oklahoma but his team's defense was more "poorous" than Baylor's.
Also meaning he might be kind of insane to come out when Murray & Boyd could very well give him a run for his money as the most touted QB prospect. He has eligibility and can hone his game at the college level. NFL money isn't so out-of-this-world-good in the first round that it wouldn't be better to try and become the #1 overall pick in a subsequent season. Maybe he would already be that, but that's why he can and should have advisors on this coming out of the next season. He set the world on fire this past year, and it'll be interesting to see where he goes in 2013-14. He looks like the consensus #1 pick in 2014, but a lot can happen between now and then, as we've seen many times.
Welker has far better moves and route running skills. Nelson is a big target who gets open but he is much slower and coming off of injury. It's possible they could be a better tandem, but I would never put money on it. Welker accomplished a lot with Brady.
I strongly disagree. They have to get into the playoffs before they can even get a shot at the Super Bowl. Decent play at QB could have taken this team to the playoffs, fatally flawed as it was, over the past two seasons. I am not about to saddle Fitz with the litany of failures this team achieved over the past few years, but it was clear he didn't have it from about game 8 last year. The league had figured him out, and he could not contribute enough to win games.
I feel like Smith has at least turned that corner, where he can contribute enough to win games. He is not and never will be an All Pro. But he can get the job done for you, and some consistency at that position would allow the Bills to really target the best QB they can get over the next two years. As it is they are practically forced to take Barkley or Smith if they are there at #8. If they end up without one after round 2, it will be devastating for the franchise.
I am with you but, to play devil's advocate, isn't it fair to say that Brady's arm was nothing special, then he worked to get it stronger?
There are certainly gifts that nature endows you with, but I think he has / had gotten better in terms of arm strength both for zip and for distant accuracy when those were not his strong suits before.
