No HOF Inductees This Year

Tim Raines should be in. Jim Rice shouldn't be in. Jack Morris shouldn't be close. Dale Murphy should be in. Bagwell should have been a first-balloter and no one has ever implicated him in anything other than hitting a lot of home runs when lots of other juiced guys were hitting them. I agree. It isn't the Hall of Virtue, and this weird limbo state that the writers have created just hurts the relevance of the Hall itself. It should just be addressed with a special exhibit. Everybody comes clean, it gets acknowledged, and we move on. Right now people who don't deserve it are getting punished. -
Welcome back, man.

If so, that is foolish. I tend to think that if Marrone could have recruited any QB in the country, it probably wouldn't have been Nassib. Not because he is bad, but because there are better ones out there. This is his chance. You design your offense with your best players in mind. If Marrone is so limited in his philosophy that a better athlete with a better arm and uncanny accuracy can't be incorporated into it, we are f---ed. -

There's the rub. We need a QB who can make plays to beat the opposition, not simply a distribution mechanism that the team can be comfortable with right now. I think Geno Smith is the better player. If he is there and they draft Nassib it will be a catastrophic blunder the likes of which only the Bills are capable of, IMO. -

How about a much better player? The Brady stuff has to stop. For one, he was a freaking lottery ticket in the 6th round that the Pats were just lucky enough to have hit the winning numbers on. The smartest team in the world passed on him 5 times - which is all you need to know. He is neither proof that the QB of the future is going to be there in the late rounds, nor is he proof that you need to reach on a less talented guy because you see the mystical intangibles in him. I do not want the Bills to take Warmack at #8 but I would take Warmack and Nassib at #8 and #41 respectively every day, over Nassib at #8 and lord knows what at #41. The guy simply hasn't proven his stock enough to obliterate any change of missing him by over-drafting him. -

Oh, here we go. I'll repeat this. It gets cold and windy in West Virginia. And I will take Geno's line in that game over Nassib's anyday. What about in the future? I think you draft for ceiling. If they really think Geno is as dumb or stubborn as a brick after meeting with him, that's understandable (doubtful IMO). But NFL QBs pick up new systems upon arrival to the league all the time. You're right, for plug'n'play, Nassib would certainly be a more seamless fit, but I don't know that he helps this team reach the upper echelon. I'll root for him if he gets here, but I am wary. And those passes to TEs won't help him if the Bills don't have any. Here's hoping! -

I understand that, but I don't think the evidence tells us he is as dynamic a prospect as Smith. If Nassib had led his team even to a Big East championship, I might see what you're seeing here, but he does not strike me as the kind of guy who wills his team to victory. He could be decent and maybe become great in the right situation, which seems like an awful lot to risk the #8 pick on. Seems like some revisionist history on Gailey / Fitz though - Edwards did "win" the starting job. -
Tebow. What have we got to lose ?

Tebow. What have we got to lose ?
RuntheDamnBall replied to jaybee's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lemmings? You mean, the people whose opinion thus far has reflected the facts? Tebow's inspirational powers may yet win somebody something, but a team would be stupid to bank on them. If he wanted to come to Buffalo to be a TE/H-back and do the work to learn routes and blocking schemes, with no guarantee or promises made about his being a QB, more power to him. But that will not work because the guy still believes he is a QB against all the prevailing evidence. This is not college. -
I don't think many of us disagree. It's just that not having your QB on the roster (at any point in the year) and losing your starting and backup guards is a pretty rough way to begin the offseason. If they address those by the end of April I think people will be a lot less worried. They might not be happy with the results, but they can move on to complaining about those choices.

RuntheDamnBall replied to jaybee's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No. That was just an answer to your point that "he's a winner." Tom Brady has hardware. Tim Tebow has a Heisman, and that's about it, unless you want to claim that Gino Torretta unfairly never got a shot. -

Tebow is awesome at defense. Also, this winner got DESTROYED by the Buffalo bills in this winning campaign of his. The broken Buffalo Bills of 2011. This perennial winner somehow didn't take his team to the super bowl. How do these things happen? -
Only if later on they are found to be making good and insightful value pickups by finding undervalued assets in the market. We can't say they look smart -or stupid - yet because they haven't given us much to go on. Bills fans can be rightfully skeptical given past results.

Glad to see stats are entering into this evaluation. Because Geno Smith's stats blow those out of the water. "So what" is all we have on the nepotism charge? Tell me what happens when teammates begin to pick up on a can-do-no-wrong treatment for the favorite son? The consequences if Nassib comes to Buffalo and fails will be worse than for any other franchise that takes him. I don't hate Nassib. And if the bills are going to draft him, I hope they do the kid a giant favor and don't saddle him with the expectations that will come from over drafting him at #8, and wait for him until the second round. If he isn't there, someone else like Manuel will be. -
Lemme ask: Has incarcerated Bob even been as right as a stopped watch in his time? I have never seen anything that this guy has forecasted check out.

Welcome to my nightmare. It would just be more of the Bills sticking with the "guys they know." I hope to God this does not happen. When a coach prefers "his guys" as opposed to the best that are out there, you get things like: Losing Rusty Jones Mularkey alienating Eric Moulds Yo-yo QB situations... Bills history has plenty of that. No thanks. Bring in the best. -

Yet that doesn't seem to enter into most critics' impressions of Geno Smith, who "lost" games for his team regardless of the quality of his defense and offensieve (sic) line.
