Warren sapp slams J Byrd on NFLN
RuntheDamnBall replied to taglientep's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Way to miss my point. The discussion that Sapp and Barber were having was about whether or not Byrd is elite. You may think he's not. I haven't argued one way or the other. Ronde Barber did, and he cited the numbers, while Sapp tossed off something unintelligible about the name on the back of a jersey, Buffalo, and god knows what. Please be reminded that Sapp gets PAID, as in, with American dollars, to have conversations and opinions about football. And he's downright terrible at this seemingly simple and fun task (simple because in TV sound bite culture, you can do what Ronde Barber did and sound reasonably intelligent. The bar is low.) -

He is a supreme dumb-ass with no class whatsoever. -

Pro Bowlers Kamar Aiken and Derek Hagan salute you. I honestly thought these guys might be stronger contributors to the Bills the past couple of years. They certainly didn't catch on anywhere else and display undeniable talent. -
Warren sapp slams J Byrd on NFLN

The NFL Network seems to be an object lesson in the fact that formerly great players are not necessarily smart people or good human beings. Sapp offered zero to explain why he doesn't think Byrd is elite. -
EJ says this offense is easier than Florida State's ...

The offense Tom Brady runs is simple. It's just been impossible to defend most of the time. -

We have been dying for a special teams demon since Ruvell Martin left us out in the cold. -
Sort of. They had enough stability at coach and in other areas of the team to make the playoffs, and deep into it, with Neil O'Donnell, Kordell Stewart, and Tommy Maddox. Better than we can say for the Bills.

I'm glad now that we didn't sign Darrius Heyward-Bey

It's amazing. Given the amount of scorn placed on players who have actually produced, the hopes placed upon Easley are really out of this world. I'd love to see him succeed and his health issues have been no joke, but he is definitely on his ninth life on a very sh--ty team, which is pretty rare. -

I'd trade Easley for DHB in a heartbeat. One could be a great #3 based on his actual production thus far. The other is making a living on promise and size for the fourth straight year. I respect you as a poster but don't get where you're coming from on this one. Easley love is really hilarious around here. It's not even like the guy has straight up owned a preseason. If I said that Troup is the next Warren Sapp just waiting for the opportunity people would rightly think I'm nuts. -
The only credibility he holds that matters is with players and staff. I really could give a rat's ass what he says to the press if he can successfully oversee the effort to build a winner.

Pretty accurate, except "subterfuge" is way too big of a word for most of the population. Try "keepin' secrets."

While that's really the only kind of thing we have to go on - word of mouth - it is better than the alternative. Remember what a poor taste it left in the mouths of other people around the league, when Nix got the job? Those around the league may have been right. I don't think Nix was a total wash, but he was defined by his coach, and the ways in which he chose to address (and not to address) the QB situation. I don't think we'll ever find out if the late 2012 / early 2013 choices were a balance of Nix/Whaley or skewed more in one person's direction, but it will be telling if this next edition is a success. Whaley definitely carries that impression of someone who has put in his time and worked for it, first with a respected club, and then as a respected voice in the room here. I hope that this draft has his fingerprints on it, and that it bears fruit for the Bills.

Flap's 53-Man Roster v. 1.0
RuntheDamnBall replied to uncle flap's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it's highly unlikely Tuel stays over Kolb in the "keep 2 QBs" scenario. This isn't RGIII and Cousins we're talking about here, where the QB has the full confidence of the staff from day one. No one has yet won the starting job and if Manuel does win it, the backup needs to be someone who has some NFL experience. This isn't just for what the guy does on the field, but also for mentoring and providing another set of eyes from someone who has been there before. -
There's only so much OTA gold to go round. Don't worry, once Da'Rick gets a speeding ticket we can take this board back to interesting places.

I remain concerned about the loss of Levitre but I am heartened by having a former OL coach calling the shots. If he can't get that right we are more screwed than the most negative people here think. So, fingers crossed. I'll admit I am really ambivalent about this year. The draft seems super-promising and there are pieces like Glenn, Spiller, Stevie, Wood and this year's picks that may yet take them somewhere. It's so easy to be cynical by default, though. The team hasn't earned a better rating through their play. Here's hoping all of these guys and their supporting cast can take the next step under a rookie HC.

You seem pretty connected on the Whaley front. I don't know what's going on there but I always like to see your posts on it. Thanks for sharing.

Maybe the best post I've ever seen here. Kudos. I know we're saying differently right now, but most of us were saying it felt different last year after they pursued and landed Mario. Not trying to burst any bubbles, but rather I think it all reveals that it's a process. As NoSaint says, opportunity needs to meet ability, and there needs to be some good fortune on the injury front as well. What if the team had a healthy Eric Wood and didn't lose a LB all season? OTOH what if an injury to a guy like Kolb opens the door for Manuel to step in and take over? Who knows what could happen?

It's so great that the games are played in Vegas. This message brought to you by your World Champion 2013 Toronto Blue Jays.

You're giving these clueless f**knuts waaaay too much credit. They would simply have had a different stupid-ass conversation. I like "Manuel is Automatic."
