Polian's Advice to the Pegulas
RuntheDamnBall replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You have to ask around the league if anyone understood how deep it was. And look, the jury is still very much out. If Watkins turns out to be Larry Fitzgerald, you have the kind of constant that has allowed Arizona to contend over several different systems and regimes. If that's the case, and the other dudes turn out to be just very good and productive a la Rod Smith or Jimmy Smith, then Whaley did in fact make the right move. That is what Whaley is banking on - that Watkins is the biggest game-changer. That said, the draft is a crapshoot in some ways. If it weren't, Tom Brady would have been a #1 overall instead of #200-something. Everyone wants to think they could have forecast the emergence of a great player. It simply doesn't always happen, and ODB might be one of those guys who slipped by and turned it on as a pro. He also could be a one-year-wonder once there is more film on him and an off-season to prepare. The fact is that neither player put his team over the top to make the playoffs, and both players seem to have won a few games single-handedly for their teams. I'm confident in Watkins, and the moves to acquire players like Kiko give me confidence in Whaley. -
Man, Sully is really on a mission to prove what a tool he is. Jerry Sullivan, Professional Troll. Put it on a business card.

Whaley will head coaching search
RuntheDamnBall replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think given that Pegula and Whaley are getting their names dragged into the mud via this Polian - Marrone situation, it makes a lot of sense for everyone to represent themselves face-to-face with a candidate so those questions can be met head-on. I don't know why people are getting all bent out of shape about it. Never mind. -
Does Schwartz stay if he's not the HC?
RuntheDamnBall replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, the surest path to another HC gig is right in front of him: to continue what he started with a really talented outfit. Let's assume the obvious: he is not getting a HC gig this year. how is he going to get a HC job by becoming a DC somewhere else? You've got to look at the risk management. On another team he'll have a whole new start to contend with, new players, and it could not work. Also, he's under contract. If he asks for release from it, no $. If the new HC wants him - or gives him his walking papers - he'll keep the $. -
We need a Coach & OC that can properly develop EJ
RuntheDamnBall replied to BmarvB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's a weird analogy. I mean, do you ever switch chefs in the middle of meal preparation? It'd be more like "I need a new landscape architect for my burnt up garden." I'll admit that's pretty bougie though. -
Head Coach Candidate: Josh McDaniels

I've gotta imagine. F that guy. -
The all Sam Bradford thread
RuntheDamnBall replied to NextYearGuys's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bradford has had multiple injury concerns. Not just the one. Now granted, Brees had a shoulder issue and that was very disconcerting. But Bradford is much more of a concern with a less impressive resume. -
Did Orton retire because of Marrone and Hackett?
RuntheDamnBall replied to BobbyC81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's respectable that Kyle Orton is a family man and probably didn't want to damage his body while considering retirement. For my team, though, that is a really tough pill to swallow. Even a supposedly cerebral guy like Fitz lays his body on the line with regularity. I am not asking anyone to be stupid, but I do want to see my QB take risks, and I saw less and less of that as the season progressed. There's probably a multi-part answer to why - the O-line woes, a decreasing desire, wishes for long-term health - but I think those overrode any supposed differences in philosophy with a coach who pretty clearly wanted him to be part of the picture. -
Jason Peters - Hall of Famer

Wouldn't you have said F You to that particular coach and front office? -
Marrone could be headed to Jets

As an alumni and big donor to Eastern South Dakota A&M, I take exception to this. -
Reason #147 I love Boobie Dixon

Those dudes... they might make Emmitt Smith's speech sound like Churchill. -

This dude has always been a baller. It is a shame that he came to the Bills in the wrong era. -

Gotta love it. This guy plays all-out. And honestly, while I don't think he's a feature back, I think we could have a great thing going a la the Giants' multi-faceted running attack of a few years ago if we just have some better blocking and coaching. -

RuntheDamnBall replied to BmarvB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Look at it this way, rather. I want a coach who is going to best deploy the personnel he has. Harbaugh figured out what Alex Smith was good at, and when he had someone who better suited his ambitions, he made the switch. You don't have to be an EJ fan to see that he may be the best we have for a little bit. In that case, of course, you want to look to get better, and to make it a competition, but I would rather have a coach who figures out what can be done with EJ than a coach who sits on his hands or storms away when the going gets tough. -
Sabres plan for the Bills
RuntheDamnBall replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Can't we just trade for Skelton or re-hire Jauron + Wannstedt if we really want to suck? This is like Bond villain sh--. too complicated. -
Has Marrone even given a statement?
RuntheDamnBall replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Marrone just went to go get a pack of cigarettes. He'll be back. I know he will. -

isn't he actually not free to leave unless the Bills grant him that wish? -
Now that we know what we know...
RuntheDamnBall replied to Bills Fan since '64's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tom Dimitroff traded up for Julio Jones. Belicheck has wheeled and dealt picks but his hit rate is still pretty low. He has Brady by luck, and that's what makes everything else work. I'm not mad at the job Whaley has done. Our pick is at #19. That is not where a clear cut difference making QB is coming from. -
Marrone could be headed to Jets

Yep. Saint Doug? Holy sh-- they'd have a field day with that. -

He's got "Woody lathered up"? Gross. Only one thing would be more hilarious than Marrone failing in NY, and that's the possibility of him getting shut out of all the HC gigs. -
Does Schwartz stay if he's not the HC?
RuntheDamnBall replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not without compensation for a lateral move. And if they try the assistant HC thing we can match that promotion. I'll bite. Who the hell is "Caughlib"? And Delhomme was way after Polian. Also, Reich is a bit of a hometown hero hire and a nostalgia play. It would piss me off (if I were Schwartz) that some football decisions could appear to be made not on their merits.
