  1. Sorry man, nothing personal. I just think your own ideas are probably more worthwhile to hear than those from B/R - it's just such a spotty source. But no offense intended.
  2. I've got two this season: Da' Rick Rogerses and my standby: The Butch Rollers. How about yours?
  3. Is this not cherry-picking by definition? Basing a report on one day of camp? And basing it not on one's own perspective, but on a secondary source? Chrissakes Bleacher Report is the worst. I wish it could just get banned here. It's a nice way for practicing writers to learn and get an audience but 99% of it is garbage, re-postings from other sources with more credibility, and speculation. Edit: I do, as jboyst does, appreciate the idea of the thread; I simply would rather learn about who's been disappointing from people here who have had the opportunity to visit camp and see things with their own eyes.
  4. Yeah. I think one other note was that it was thought of as an unfilmable novel. So with that in mind, I think the Wachowskis and Tykwer did a pretty interesting, if not perfect job.
  5. Knowing that the book is written in different literary styles (historical record, pulpy detective novel, dystopic sci-fi future, dystopic barbarian future) might help. That, and that each successive storyline is "read" or otherwise integrated into the following subject's life. It is a lot of work. I think the 75 minute mark is a fair point of where it starts accelerating into something more cohesive. There is some disturbing stuff to come!
  6. Maybe we should go with all the long snappers in Bills history. Garrison Sanborn, Dorenbos (maybe doing a magic trick), Ethan Albright, Lingner, Mike Schneck, Dan O'Leary... I'm sure there are more, but may we salute them... kings among men.
  7. It is better than it is given credit for, but definitely intense. I will be interested to hear what you think.
  8. Cloud Atlas is pretty complete emotional experience. Having Tom Tywker on board is a pretty great addition, too. It's not perfect but it hits some heights. Might depend a bit on how bothered you are by the makeup.
  9. Michael Oher has slid between the two as well.
  10. You know what, people think the Tampa Bay Rays are crazy for having 7 guys who can play shortstop and take walks, but that is one of the ways that they have been able to have great success without defensive downgrades in the field and by exploiting platoon matchups. I tend to agree - conventional wisdom does suggest it's a bad thing to not have your LT locked in. But if Marrone is really looking at what succeeds in the NFL, guys like Belicheck and Parcells and Payton flout conventional wisdom and are rewarded for it. You could be on to something here. Doing things in a way other than the generally received way to do them can often allow you to exploit market inefficiencies in the game, and to be be better prepared when things don't go according to plan.
  11. I feel bad for ever berating the guy. He definitely gave it his all. Hope he's OK.
  12. Hey, remember when it looked like Levitre was getting "demoted" and pulled out by Chan last camp? The same Levitre that just got top OG money? Teams try things out in camp. Come back on opening day with this stuff - right now it's no more than an opportunity for idiots to say "I told you so" with little to actually back it up.
  13. I'm pretty sure he just told all of those articles not to show up for a few months.
  14. Left tackles are a dime a dozen.
  15. FWIW - I am happy to see when guys have played it smart like Moore, and (at least from my external impressions) Marcellus Wiley, and Robert Smith. It's easy for us to berate guys for not loving the game, but a lot wiser to walk away when you still have health and wealth in hand. I hope he gets to enjoy his family and the fruits of his success.
  16. That last part is fair, but I really just thought the SW prequels benefited a lot from us WANTING them to be good. I think the notion that any of them were better than Jedi suggests that this storyline was anywhere near as compelling. With acting and dialogue this bad, it seriously wasn't. No one in the prequels was the equal of Harrison Ford or any of the small role players in the originals. JMO. You were seriously able to get wrapped into the action and tension in Jedi even though you figured the good guys would win. As a good example that you cite, Darth Maul is a character that had no dimension for me - the "why" and "how" motivations for character action in these movies was just so weakly executed. You knew the basic plotline of what was going to happen, and when it did, it was just kind of like, "OK, so that happened," for me. That Christensen was such a whiny b*tch of an actor made it more difficult to buy in. Think of a guy like Cillian Murphy or Joseph Gordon-Levitt and what they could have done with that role.
  17. I'm surprised no one else wants to go with Andre.
  18. I gotta get out more.
  19. Whoa whoa whoahhh, you had internet in 2004-5? Do you live in some kind of advanced superhuman society?
  20. Especially when we're dealing with the incredibly small sample size of two players that Parker represents, with whom the Bills have had in holdout status. Can / does Parker play hardball? Sure. The Byrd saga hasn't played out fully yet, so it's not a foregone conclusion that he won't sign and that Byrd has punched his ticket out. Nor do we really know if Carrington wants to stay here, be close to family, thinks he's used incorrectly, etc. There is a whole season of football to play yet, but let's invent problems for the 2014 offseason. Now, I do hope the front office works on extensions with players they believe in, and maybe that will be a charge of the new leadership. Maybe it won't and Overdorf really holds the purse-strings. Maybe it won't because they believe playing hardball like NE does is the best way to go. The better answer is usually that we don't have enough information.
  21. Stockholm Syndrome.
  22. Great? From start to finish? You mean you didn't laugh your azz off at "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"? Wow. I thought it was a mess but it was a lot more fun than the first two snooze-fest prequels. I say that as a person who loved and grew up with the originals. The acting was just too poor in all 3 of the prequels for any to be called great. To be fair, it is really hard to act well with that much green screen / CGI. The directing has to be top-shelf, and Lucas never really had that as far as directing actors goes. He was a vision guy and he was good with the story when he had some constraints to deal with. Without them, there was just too much flab. For an example of acting interaction with CGI done really well, I'd say "Life of Pi" was about a billion times better. Lucas got lapped by the game. It's not really too hard to admit. He had his day.
  23. Can you substantiate this?
