I think we can agree that there are plenty of players whose careers were cut short through no fault of their own due to injury.
I felt like Spikes was probably assembling a HOF career before his - at least borderline. And he was never the same afterwards. But that kind of injury might as well be a death sentence for most players' careers.
Now, if Wood keeps getting injured for the reasons you detail - sure, I understand the cause for concern... But these really do look like isolated incidents to me.
Yeah, he's pretty much just like the guy, except for 35 lbs heavier, four inches taller, not as fast, and not one of the top 75 receivers in NFL history.
Urbik was a solid pickup off the camp cuts a few years ago. One can hope another good prospect of that pedigree is available. Who knows. I doubt they will find more than one scrap-heap guy who is a really strong contributor, though.
Fredonia = 11 playoff seasons in 19 seasons.
SJF = no playoffs in 13 seasons.
We can't afford to test this out any longer.
Yes, but Flutie still played games in 2000. No playoffs. Whither his magic? He should have played special teams.
And no dynasty is being led by a 38 year old 5 foot 10 man.
Expecting anything out of any of these guys in this game, three days after their acquisition, is borderline insane. Is it somehow remarkable that the guy who played against the worst players on the opposition did better? Is it surprising that the guy who has been in an NFL camp all summer played better?
I'm far from beating the drum for Leinart; just saying, let's be realistic.
Quiet, you. Clearly, good players enjoy the anonymity of a small town, where they can spend that hard earned bonus money at the Fountain Grill and finish off the night with a chicken finger sub for the walk back to the dorms.
The source of the curse?
It's not Flutie - he played during the first season of the Bills' current putrid streak.
It's not Wade. He coached that same season.
The Bills have not made the playoffs since they left the quaint surroundings of Fredonia and a state university to "regionalize" the franchise and move East to Rochester. Thanks, Russ Brandon. Thanks for ticketed night practices. Thanks for ripping this team from the heart of WNY.
I have nothing against my Rochester brethren, but you cannot dispute a fact.
We're done here.
Bills back in Fredonia. Car bombs at BJs. Super Bowl. Mark it.
32 teams were "too stupid to pick up" Fred Jackson for a long time.
Different circumstances, for sure, but the game is nothing if not a series of circumstances; sometimes the right player lines up with the right team and it all works out.
