The Two Faces of Doug Marrone
RuntheDamnBall replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually, many people have said they noticed a turn in Marrone's demeanor the more power and control he has attained. The person they liked as a lower-man on the totem pole could be a grade-A douchebag once he's gotten some seniority and it's gotten to his head. -
I'm not saying this because I'm frustrated. I'm only asking because I'm curious if anyone with the inside info knows how long they plan to take with this hire. I have to imagine there are advantages to hiring earlier (getting all the good assistants, etc) but you also lose out on some of the best / contender candidates if you haven't gotten a chance to interview them yet. My hope is that they have someone in place or have at least agreed to terms prior to the SB.

I found that. Hell, I found a LARGE portion of NE fans at our game when I came this fall. By the same token, I had a fun and relatively undisturbed time at MetLife stadium this year, . So it kind of depends on how a fan base is feeling at any particular time. Bills fans want the playoffs so badly, but the wider community hasn't all jumped back on the bandwagon in the way they will once it happens.

Do you want the new stadium domed or open field?

Are the Pegulas in Over Their Heads?
RuntheDamnBall replied to jjmac's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Attacked bad run defenses with the run? Attacked bad pass defenses with the pass? They often did the reverse and tried to "do their thing" regardless of the opposition. It was tone deaf. -
Actually, even more millions, adjusted for today's dollars.

Sad, sad day.

You gotta love this: How's about, Odell Beckham Jr., who had 26 more catches and just over 300 more receiving yards than Watkins, WITH A BORDERLINE HOFer, TWO TIME SUPER BOWL CHAMPION QB THROWING TO HIM in four fewer games. Also, the Giants were down Cruz and were naturally going to lean more on another receiver. Seriously, though, are we comparing a WR who had Orton / Manuel throwing to him all year vs. Eli? Are we also comparing a guy who sat four games to one who PLAYED with broken ribs and a groin injury all season?

Wait, but Tony Boselli was no good because no Super Bowls. -

Marrone could be headed to Jets

Yeah, he just changed to him. I wouldn't rule guys out based on that association, but I would REALLY know who we're dealing with in that event. -
Does Terry Pegula Have A Clear Strategic Plan?
RuntheDamnBall replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you're a businessman like Pegula, you are always looking at the long play while trying to improve your position in the short term. You also understand when you need to endure a loss or some setbacks to create growth in the future. A long as you look at it like a reactionary football fan who lives and dies with what happens every Sunday, you're going to be disappointed. That said, Bills fans would do well to just unplug the clock and try to forget about the "15 years of no playoffs thing." Those 15 years are not Terry's fault. They aren't even Whaley's fault. We all want it and we all get it, but getting angry about it or calling people incompetent after 2 months on the job doesn't solve anything. -

I just read that Sexton was / is Tebow's agent. That makes way too much sense. The guy is good at generating hype for somebody who doesn't deserve it on the football merits. -
What if they took it down, and replaced it with "The Electric Company"? It would mean the same thing, it would represent hard-nosed Buffalo Bills line play, and it would account for what OJ accomplished.

Can a HC and a GM get along and agree
RuntheDamnBall replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was referring to the notion that there is not that kind of discord in other front offices. I can imagine, but have no evidence for, a rift regarding the Manziel pick in Cleveland, for instance. I just can't hazard a guess either way, as to whether other organizations have relationships that overheat at times. -

That's an an awfully big assumption to make given the precious little information available. -

Whaley will head coaching search
RuntheDamnBall replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you're to be believed, basically everybody sucks or was hurt. Seriously, we have seen NFL level play from these guys in spots... not all of them, but most. I think good coaches can get the best out of average players. It begins by not shuffling everybody around and screwing with chemistry. That's something that I couldn't believe Marrone, a former lineman, got wrong this spring and summer. -
Could Matt Ryan be available?
RuntheDamnBall replied to switz1610's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This thread still exists? And sorry, Cardinal, that's going rate for a top-10 QB in this league. If he were 38 I might understand the concern, but Matty Ice is not one of the things holding this team back. I expect a Harbaugh-like bounce if they simply get competent coaching with their talent. That division is so flawed, it should be there for the taking. NO has Brees, of course, and Carolina is there, but ATL is definitely the most talented team on paper. -
Yup. His best shot at a HC job this season would be much like Pettine's -- walking into a house fire as a third or fourth choice. Next year his odds would be better. And it could actually work in his favor either way. If the team is held back by the offense once again, but the D looks sharp, he can make a case for how he runs a great program on his side. If the team goes further and makes the playoffs, he's worked that particular kind of miracle. Win-win. With so much of the personnel coming back, plus Kiko and any other adjustments made, his position is strong in Buffalo.
