  1. Honest question: do you think that given their earning power, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers or any other top-flight QB while in their prime would sit and be happy with a one-year deal at $7 million and nothing guaranteed beyond? These guys have special bargaining power and leverage in a game where billions are made off of their athletic exploits. They are worth more -- in their particular niche of the world. You don't have to like it, or to like them, but it's the reality of the situation. Byrd is obviously not at their prime position, but my point is that no one in their right mind would say that these guys should take a $7M one year deal just because it is good money in the grand scheme of things. It's simply not how the system works. The whole "boo hoo, he should be happy making what he's making playing a game" sentiment just displays a complete lack of understanding of the world these guys live in. It is a high power, high stakes game played by guys who have a specific talent and skill set that happens to be valuable in the league and in this country. Yes, he gets to play a game for a living. Yes, he makes more money than I'll probably ever see. Yes, that's absurd. But if you hate it so much, stop watching the game. Or, just be like most rational people and understand that this has everything to do with how the CBA MAKES these things play out. It's designed to keep players cost-controllable, it's designed to reward them on a limited basis with no long-term guarantees, and it's designed to advance raises so that it becomes increasingly difficult for the team to maintain that cost control over more than 1-2 years. True, many players sign their franchise tenders without as much acrimony, but we don't have any further information beyond that as to side deals and promises made among teams and players. Byrd could just be angry because he knows he has been injured, he knows it can all end on one play, he knows he doesn't have a lot of leverage, and he believes he is in his prime. It is not going to line up for him for more than a year or two. The older he gets, the more risky he gets, and the less able he is to capitalize on those prime years and the production he has displayed. I think he's worth Weddle, Goldson money and wish that he were offered it, and that he would accept it from the Bills. Negotiations by nature are not public so we really don't know what he's been offered or what he has turned down. Everything else is coming from a secondary source and we should always question the veracity and the motives of those sources. This is my last post ever on this because it seems like people are content to say the same stupid things. It becomes all the more ridiculous when we realize that if Byrd signed a long term deal at the end of the year, all we would want is for him to be great in a Bills uniform.
  2. Isn't 13-4 most likely in line with his career winning %? He is totally a Twitter troll.
  3. I think this was a necessary adjustment.
  4. Has anyone seen Tebow and Te'o in the same place? The question needs to be asked. Should this occur, I think it will be the catalyst for an ESPNgasm that will open the heavens.
  5. Marketing plan: Step 1) Make new horribad jersey Step 2) some suckers buy it because it's new Step 3) make new, better jersey so that everyone can agree that the other one was terrible, and buy more new jerseys. Profit.
  6. Turnovers - it's the only way they've been able to beat him so far. You have to be good and you have to be a bit lucky.
  7. I think among hockey fans it's plenty recognizable. The NHL's marketing problem is not the Sabres', per se. The team has some of the best ratings in the league. Are the people who don't recognize your hat NHL fans? I am not sure that a putrid yellow jersey will make that logo more recognizable, unless they intend to outfit construction workers with it.
  8. Why do they have to keep f---ing up a great look? Seriously. The blue top looks like a freaking cape from the front. Stupid. Clown suit stupid. And the bottlecap script was terrific. WHY!?
  9. I agree with this. Obviously you want Brady to not get too comfortable, but success lies with the ability to attack the weak links. Right now that's the fragile and inexperienced WR and TE corps. Make them think twice about a hit at every reception opportunity.
  10. From SJ's Facebook: "EJ, locked and loaded. LetsGo!" I know some people don't like the guy and can't stand that he has fun playing a game for a living, but I love his enthusiasm, his support of his teammates and his encouragement of a rookie QB.
  11. That is not his best play.
  12. Hopefully this team gets innovative and starts tag-team kicking. Or maybe deliberately fumbling to a kicker on offense, sending Goodwin down the field and kicking it to him. This is legal, right?
  13. I for one am terrified that it took them this long to find someone to fill Torell Troup's seat in the press box.
  14. Nope. And good TEs make QBs better. Manuel would be wise to build a relationship with the ones he has, and the Bills would be wise to look for an upgrade. I'd love to see them fall into position for this kid: Austin Seferian-Jenkins*, TE, Washington Height: 6-6. Weight: 266. Projected 40 Time: 4.60. From Walter Football: With the DUI arrest and pickups of guys like Kiko, he could fit the "jerkball" mould they seem to be going for lately. I see the Gronk / Graham comparisons and get a bit excited.
  15. If the Bills were good or simply respectable and were losing this one game consistently, I think you could look at it as more of an issue. They've also seemed to start and finish the season against the Pats more frequently, which is a weird scheduling quirk too.
  16. This is seriously a thing? I love a good conspiracy theory, but the Patriots have not needed much help against the Buffalo Bills. The Bills have a schedule to play, and if they play it well they will stop being doormats. Nobody is keeping them down but themselves.
  17. See, I expect that and I'm unsatisfied but usually indifferent if the team is getting crushed. It's like, they're so outmatched you can't even get invested in it. It's when they play out of their heads and then give the game away that I go nuts.
  18. All those doctors stick together. Hypocrattic oath and all.
  19. But this torch is burning down and I just sharpened my pitchfork. You don't let that sh-- go to waste...
  20. Oh, damn, a doctor confirmed this too, in a second opinion. I suppose he's on the take, too, though.
  21. Manuel, Woods, Gilmore, Kiko?
  22. You can look at it a few ways. Mark V's suggestion that he couldn't take the reins instantly might be part of it. Also, yes, there's the whole "he couldn't even make the Raiders" argument, but then, the Raiders aren't exactly a model organization and I wouldn't take their opinion on talent evaluation as the last word. It's certain that if Wilson didn't get picked by them in R4, he would have been drafted by somebody. I'm sure that there is a team out there who will give him a shot.
  23. I think the gameplan has to be dictated by your players. If Manuel can make plays that Tuel can't make, even at 80%, I think there's no question that Manuel should be the guy.
