Thought this was pretty neat. Not about Lou exactly, but about the foundation of a big hit.

Same here. That song is devastatingly beautiful and simple - perfect example. I love Bruce's addition to it, too.

David Nelson makes it rain on Pacman Jones
RuntheDamnBall replied to BADOLBILZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, David Nelson. Known STUD. The dude has nice hands and gets open but if you want YAC forget it. He isn't going to play Pacman Jones every week. Note that he really helped lead the charge in a fantastic victory for the Jets in the game you speak of. Wait what? -
It could be very close to Matt Flynn time

Please go away. -
Why, is some team stupid enough to offer a first-rounder? No? OK. Byrd can do the dishes like nobody's business.

RIP. Why don't you just slip away.

I'm pretty sure any other coach in this league is going into New Orleans' house and winning with Thad Lewis, half of Stevie Johnson, and no CJ Spiller. C'mon, people. If you want to get on Marrone, get on him for the penalties, because there is a clear coach's responsibility that the team has been failing at. The in-game stuff? I personally think the FJax challenge was Marrone listening to his captain, who knew he was in. Does the book say that those bunched up piles are usually going to result in an inconclusive video replay? Probably. But Marrone listened to his players and they did respond by punching it in the next time out. The play that negated the Graham touchdown and other penalties are what's really killing a young team that can't afford that stuff. It is tough to beat the Saints even-steven. Tougher on the road. Toughest of all when you shoot yourselves in the foot.

Well, kinda glad we passed on Freeman...
RuntheDamnBall replied to Mike B. in VA's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Somewhat true, but I wonder for how much of this past game he was playing with a concussion. And even QBs with a decent history (C Palmer for example) have a tough time being thrown into a new situation, in mid-season. It would never happen to a guy like Peyton Manning so I can't venture to guess how he would fare. -
I should hope everyone was so charitable to you and your parents while you were growing up. Good luck with that re: the airlines. Know that if a kid is misbehaving on a plane, no one is more embarrassed or annoyed about it than the parent. Know that if the kids are just being kids, you were once a kid too. The parents traveling with them are probably doing so because it is their best option. Cut them some slack and people may do the same for you if you have kids. I would never take a kid under 7 to the Ralph because I've had too many bad experiences with drunken louts, and crowd control is not the best at an NFL game. I've had good experiences at ball games and as such my daughter is a baseball fan at 4. I do try to be considerate by moving about and not just sitting in our seats when she's getting restless. Kids don't need to be quarantined, they just need to be respected (not catered to, respected). If they are telling you you need to leave, you do it. If they are hungry, you feed them. If they aren't behaving, they get one warning and then you follow through if the bad behavior resumes. Responsible kids turn into responsible adults. So your point is taken, if and only if said adults are responsible enough to understand what is going on and can appreciate the need the respect the rights of others not to be subjected to the crying, whining, puking, cursing, and general unrest that inconsiderate adult fans often exhibit.

Time for Captain Caveman to reprint his Terrence McGee return story. -

Ah, former All-American... for a guy in his fifth year of Pro ball. That's a bit like highlighting your college debate team experience when you're looking for a job. -
When were you most wrong on a player?
RuntheDamnBall replied to plenzmd1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I respect you as a poster, but to me it seems ludicrous to ever design an NFL offense around one guy who can't throw and whose style of play is very likely to get him injured. When he's gone, then what? Given that Denver won in large part due to strong defensive play in the tail end of that season, it just seems there is more to the story than McCoy doing well with him. They turned the ship around, but even in that successful season they got throttled by the Buffalo Bills, no less. -
That's crazy how much they've ended up at Arrowhead. I'd noticed it before but hadn't realized it was that lopsided.

Derek Anderson, in a WIN against the Bills, went something like 2-17, as I recall. -

The thing is, if you're a guy named Peerless, being a #1A goes against everything you stand for. -

Not sure if JP or RJ. RJ got a longer leash and had more success, but also had more convincing competition. -
Really, not when they were winning 14-0?

I am not sure if I would characterize myself as cynical, but I have learned to temper my expectations and take the good with the bad, knowing that the bad is never that far around the corner. Also, I was making BBQ and birthday cake yesterday during the game, so I wasn't riveted to the screen. I'm just saying that any team with a starter at QB who was on the practice squad last month should probably be subject to lowered expectations. With that in mind, I'm enjoying the ride more. I am noticing the little things Fred Jackson does well. I am more versed in the rules. I am more baffled by strange calls or the way refs will sometimes insert themselves into the game -- as they did yesterday. A win is a win is a win, yes. But sometimes those wins reveal your ceiling (Dick Jauron) and sometimes those wins point to potential to do even more. I sincerely believe we're in the latter category because there are stretches of dominating play and subsequent lapses / room for improvement.

I thought both FJ and Stevie showed a lot of heart yesterday, because lord knows they are both not 100% by any stretch. Stevie made a number of good "extra effort" moves to keep drives alive. He'll never have top-flight speed or hands but he is a terrific complement to Woods and I think this could be a great receiving corps once Goodwin gets more into it, Graham improves, and maybe a guy like Easley gets some plays.

Unpopular opinions thread.

Flutie was a selfish player and he hung his best receivers out to dry, even if he was the better QB. I like Ricky Williams and think he was a terrific and misunderstood player and person.
