Dick Lebeau has eaten up and confused rookie QBs many times -- and I hesitate to believe that Hackett was prepared for this. I think EJ played poorly in this game and against the Jets, but I do think he has shown some promise. Obviously there is just under half a season to play here -- and dude has missed a quarter of it. The torch and pitchfork crew will always target somebody. While we're at it, no one wants to talk about how the running game was absolute milquetoast, or how we're not dialing down the pressure on said QB with screens (other than one dropped by Chris Gragg) and slants, but EJ sucks amirite?

Um, for serious? The same clowns that drafted Robert Woods and Kiko Alonso, and turned one pick into both Alonso and Manuel? You write as if the book is closed on Manuel, which is ludicrous. Manziel is no gimme as an NFL QB... and few are. I will take my chances with Manuel over Johnny Football. Manziel will be facing defenses that won't allow him to just run around and chuck it up to tall targets in the NFL. His best hope is to get drafted by somebody that has a 6'5 receiver with amazing speed and hands. Besides, if we're there and we don't want Boyd or whomever is slotted at where we draft, we hold a HUGE trade chip to pick up more good players. This team is better positioned than the crybabies think. -

Can't disagree. And it's a father's job to teach his boys not to be, enable or associate with dirtbags. -
Broncos' OL walks away from game

No doubt, on all accounts. Here's one thing: the guy obviously left something on the table. I hate the idea, but if he had ended up on the Patriots, for one, he'd have three rings, and they might have won more. That the guy carried his team to the playoffs as often as he did under Wayne Fontes and Bobby Ross is nothing short of amazing. -

True enough. And your points are most salient. I guess I am not surprised about the cover-up but I I am surprised that they didn't feel the story would get out eventually, since it stemmed from a (private) event in a public location. I'm also surprised they were so enamored of a guard (dime a dozen, anybody?) with this kind of record, doing this stuff at one of their own events, that they held onto him and put him in a position of leadership. Compare to the Bills having decided they had had enough with Lynch even though it was (and remains) an unpopular decision. -

I'm not advocating my gut reaction as a way of dealing with this. It's just the way I feel. And there is a major difference between the way dudes talk in private company and this kind of elevated disrespect (to put it mildly). But it says a lot about the Dolphins' current management that they helped sweep this occurrence at a team function under the rug. They're probably mad at the rats who got this story out, when a real man would hide behind his buddies and their team "code." -

Nope. People have got to stop acting like Martin is some kind of crazy outcast for believing this environment to be at best, alien, and at worst, criminally insane. This stuff about how your linemen are your brothers and you owe it to them to spend $15,000 on a trip, or $30,000 on a dinner, and you don't rat on them... Whut? I know this is a place far from reality, but THAT far? -

You'd be surprised about some places. Having a daughter and seeing women treated like this makes me just want to club this guy in the junk repeatedly, even though that is no way to solve an issue. He's a sociopath. -
Is TJ Graham any good?

Maybe he should try holding onto easily catchable balls in the fourth quarter, and he might get more chances. -

Classy fella, Richie. I guess if you're too much of a fat douche to really attract the ladies, you may as well feel them up with a golf club and then dump water on them. WTF? -

How does everybody feel about Barry Sanders, btw? He took a signing bonus from the team then walked out on them when he decided it was clear they weren't committed to winning... He did this in the offseason, but it still tarnishes his legacy a bit. -

I think with the context that he was on a team that he didn't sign a contract with, his conduct looks a bit less reprehensible. I don't fault a guy for falling out of love with a profession that can do lasting damage to your health. If he left mid-season after having signed a contract with the Broncos, that'd be a bit more of an issue. As it stands, he doesn't leave them in a terrific spot, but they have the look of a team that should be able to adjust. -

That's on point. McKinnie is a freaking clown and it's only by the grace of God that Mike Williams exists to keep him from looking like more of a disappointment. Underachieving journeyman tackle with discipline issues taken in the top ten? Real impressive. I think the people who suggest that Martin's career is over are downplaying the fact that he got along fine with some excellent pro players at Stanford, blocked for one of the game's premier QB prospects, and is by all accounts a smart player. Without football, Incognito might be the champion of Big Buck Hunter down at the bar when he isn't getting arrested for aggravated assault. That Miami thinks there is no room for a guy like Martin in their locker room, or that his being different is some kind of character deficiency, reflects poorly on them. Ricky Williams was a guy with this same kind of perspective, and he was a !@#$ horse. He ran in 2002 like a man possessed. But he needed to be in an environment where he could be himself. I see the Bills right now as that kind of team. Stevie Johnson is a little different - so is Aaron Williams. Both of these guys have been afterthoughts at some point in their careers, who evolved into better players because they found a place and a staff that believed in them. -
These days? They go for more than just the eyebrows, if you know what I mean. Gotta look sharp for the ranch.

You don't go to the free agent market to right your draft wrongs. Mario Williams may have been an exception in that we really needed a FA to signal that the team was changing (as did Denver with Manning). Orakpo is a nice player but borderline elite, not elite. You don't break your bank for him because it's going to cost you in other areas. You hope to find the next one of him in the draft. As someone else noted before, bringing in two more guys with the status of Lawson and Branch for the defense (not necessarily at their positions, but maybe to replace / augment Moats) would be great. It helps when you don't pick guys who aren't built for the NFL at receiver or rush lineman/LB positions.
