Jason Brown, Baltimore Ravens
Tortured Soul replied to Tsaikotic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And Ray Ray. I think that's the best explanation why he might get away. -
His numbers, in Peyton Manning's offense, were not better than Reed's. I don't see him being an improvement.

Can you please cite a statistic that shows the Bills do not have the income to compete? Thanks.
-
And you kept your seniority?
-
Dear lord, he's comparing Chris Brown to the Nazis.

You don't think Kerry Collins, who led his team to the #1 seed in the conference, would be hard to get to come to Buffalo as a back-up?

Comment about the Tampa Bay Cover 2
Tortured Soul replied to In space no one can hear's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That list is deceiving. Not only have Kiffin and Dungy had success with the Tampa 2, but Dungy met Lovie Smith in the Superbowl, where he was running that defense. Kansas City and Detroit, on the other hand, don't have the personnel to do well with any defense. And why give John Harbaugh credit? Rex Ryan has been running the same defense in Baltimore since Marvin Lewis left. Ron Rivera's defense only improved from 22 to 18 when he took over, not exactly a world-changing move. And Leslie Frazier inherited a defense with the Williams Wall. I'd attribute most of its improvement this year to Jared Allen (who did just as well in Herm's defense) than anything Frazier did. Oh, and the triple-A Bills defense was 14th in yards and points, missing its top pass rusher most of the season, missing arguably its best linebacker the whole season, and a slew of injuries in the secondary. -
What could Jauron learn from Lindy Ruff??

I wish Turner Gill could coach both UB and the Bills. -
I think WVU is saving him for DEs.

My analysis on why Ralph kept DJ...
Tortured Soul replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, no wonder. If you ignore the injuries to Digiorgio and Bowen. -
Actually, he's only 27. He'll turn 28 in August.
-
FYI, Tim Graham said in his chat that he doesn't see that happening and that Crowell's comments were just to show other teams he's a decent guy.

Even if Poz is better suited for the outside, I think the team has every intention of keeping him at MLB. Choosing between Lenon inside and Poz outside or Poz inside and Crowell outside, I'd go with the latter. It would also be cheaper. I think the best free agent the Bills have a realistic shot at getting is Dansby. He plays outside for the Cardinals and could play there for us. The Cardinals and Dansby failed to come to a long-term extension last offseason, and given their other situations and their tendency to let FAs escape, I think we could lure him with a substantial offer. And thanks, WVU. Good post.

Currently, there are 31 other teams with message boards saying, "You know what we should do this offseason? Get Peppers and Haynesworth." I doubt either plays in a different uniform next season.

Maybe the life expectancy for someone his age in good health and with the resources to buy the best health care in the world can expect to live five more years. I don't know what the actuarial tables are. But my point is, though Ralph is prepared should he die within a year, that doesn't mean he's living now expecting to die within a year. I don't know on what basis you would suggest that Jones would not have paid more for the Cowboys if they were coming off a 13-3 season rather than a 3-13 season. An owner can always install his own people, but he'd like to start with a good product. Think of anyone buying a business. Which would they pay more for - a strong brand that's selling well or one that has struggled but has potential to improve?
-
Absolutely right. atl-fan, A few points you forgot to consider: Is Ralph planning on dying soon? Because for a 90-year-old, he is in pretty good health, and there's nothing that says you can't live five or ten more years. I'm only 24, so I don't dwell on my own mortality too much, but I'd guess if I was 90, I'd do pretty much whatever I could to deny the end as long as I could. Seems logical, right? Second point is, if you are assuming that Ralph's goal is to sell the franchise for as large a profit as possible upon death, why do you assume that a winning franchise would not be more valuable than a losing franchise? For example, wouldn't you be willing to pony up a few million more for a franchise with Scott Pioli attached than one run by Russ Brandon? Oh, and Ralph has been handing out big money contracts left and right the past two years. For example, Aaron Schobel, Derrick Dockery and Lee Evans. In case you forgot.

Alpha, I think you're pretty much spot on. I'd add a couple: It's the best way to synch up the organization and give everyone a fair chance. If things don't improve next season, then you can say you aren't giving up on Schonert too quickly, or on Brandon. You can also give an incoming coach a better idea of a decision on whether Edwards is his QB without forcing him to accept him for a year (a problem that may hinder the Jets with Favre). Now, should Jauron fail again, you can throw the lot of them out an start over with a unified plan. Also, given the schedule, it might be best to get your next coach in there with a better shot at a quick turnaround. Of course, given the annual shake up in the NFL, trying to project strength of schedule in two years is iffy at best. -
Is there any reason to think Birk would want to leave Minnesota?

It's pretty clear what this team needs, right?

How many Haynesworth-type players switch teams every year in free agency? One? Two? This past year, Asante Samuel was the only player coming off an All-Pro season to switch teams. Haynesworth will be coming off consecutive All-Pro seasons. If he does hit the market, there will be 25 teams after him. Even TKO didn't make a Pro Bowl before he came to Buffalo. For your original post, as much as I would like to see Kelsay cut, I have a sinking feeling that won't even be discussed at OBD over the off-season. Edit: Alan Faneca was also signed coming off Pro Bowl seasons, but he is past his prime. -
My offseason wish list...
Tortured Soul replied to ColdBlueNorth's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fair recap. I don't think you said anything controversial, other than DJ is "alright" as a head coach. The one problem I have with the post is where are you going to find this veteran DE that's an upgrade over Kelsay? Great if he's out there, but I think we have to be prepared to move forward with Schobel, Denney, Ellis, and a rookie. -
The quote that sent me over the edge
Tortured Soul replied to Kelso_Helmet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Come on, the player that makes you want to choke on your own vomit every time you hear him speak of continuity has to be Chris Kelsay. Just because of how much money he makes compared to Royal and Preston. -
FYI, Jauron has waited a couple of weeks to talk after the last two seasons.

ralph is taking too long to fire jauron
Tortured Soul replied to JAMIEBUF12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The difference would be whether Ralph is factoring in a contract valued at (conservatively) $6 million or more when considering whether to proceed with Dick. It wasn't really meant as a direct reply to your post. I just think the speculation on an extension is moot at this point. There is one. -

At this point, if Jauron didn't have an extension, wouldn't there be no point in firing him, seeing as his contract effectively ended yesterday?
