Marty has a history of winning fast (just not in the playoffs). So he turns it around for a few years and then hands the reins over to his son. Sounds good to me!
Bill Cowher took over a 7-9 team and went 11-5 his first year. How do you like that history?
-
McShay has him going 5th overall in his latest mock.
-
The thing is, I can't remember Schefter being wrong about anything in the past. This flies in the face of what he's reporting.
If Schefter reports a source told him that Cowher will return to CBS, then it won't be Schefter who is wrong. It will be the source.

Ugh.
Imminent = about to happen.
Eminent = famous or respected within a particular sphere
As in, "Despite my clicking refresh on TBD every five minutes, the arrival of an eminent head coach is not imminent in Buffalo."
Only question is who made the mistake - Kilgore or Carucci?

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writ...hing/index.html
Of the 11 new head coaches this year, 6 improved their team's record by 1-2 games, 3 held even, 2 got worse by 1-2 games, and the Bucs took a 6-game drop.

I'm hearing that while Cowher hasn't said no, the Bills are moving on. Nix is setting up the road show now. Frazier, Rivera, McDermott, even Jim Harbaugh. Who's not on the list? Billick and Haslett. Bottom line: no coaching hire for at least a week.
PTR
No rush - there are no other openings right now.
-
I am willing to shoot him a 5 year 40 mill offer which makes him the highest paid HC in history. If he doesn't take it in 7 days I pull the offer and move on.
What would you say if he comes replies that he wants 5/60?
I dont want to lose out on someone else who can help us while we wait for Cowher to finish walking his dogWell, right now there are no other job openings.

A third vote for Tony Davis from Rutgers.

I don't know about the site that's reporting this, but I just find it hard to believe the Browns have made a decision already.
-
For myself, if Cowher says yes, except for Fewell, the interviews are over.
Generally, if you offer someone a job and he accepts, that's the end of it.
Glazer said we have a chance to get him...he likes the roster and is interested in the job. Meanwhile we'll keep interviewing before meeting again with Cowher. Just a quick 30 seconds or so.Thank you.

So Tim,
How excited can we get about Cowher now? Cautiously optimistic? Jadedly guarded? Deliriously happy?
Enjoy your playoff game(s) next weekend. Sorry you don't get to go someplace warmer, but hey, it's football.

After the commercial break the Fox team (Bradshaw et al) will discuss Cowher and the Bills
What did they say?

I dont think the Bucs are paying for Gruden anymore. Contract law states that you can get your damages for being fired, but you must take an equal or greater salary job. So if the Bills offered Gruden more than he was making in Tampa, he would be forced to take our offer, or take another team's offer... or Gruden would receive nothing. His ESPN contract likely comes something close to his coaching salary though, so he isn't losing much money.
That's only a default term.
-
Hey Tim,
Any idea why the Bills decided to make the announcement now?
-
Oh my god - look at Stroud!
-
Except if your Bill Parcells, who doesn't give a hoot. (bye bye Cam Cameron)
But it basically has to be a case that is that extreme - where the team goes 1-15. Morris has at least won three and has the team playing better (2 wins in a row).
The only other coach I can think of being fired after one season is Ray Rhodes, and that was under weird circumstances.
-
However as I said before, I would be surprised if the Bucs fire Morris so I doubt the job will be available.
I agree on this. The reports of Tampa's interest in Cowher was before they beat the Saints. It is exceedingly rare to fire a first-year head coach.
-
Tampa is much closer to his home in Carolina than Buffalo
Actually, it's not.

Well people post all kinds of blogs and online nonsense so I don't think Coach Sal is any less legit than some of the dart-throwers out there.
In summation: 1) Ralph Wilson may have a succession plan with an heir. Speculation is it could be Mary Wilson, Ralph's wife, who could take over. 2) Bill Cowher has been speaking with Russ Brandon the past two weeks about taking over the Bills and is interested in the job. Carolina and Tampa are also players for Cowher but the Bills are in the mix.

Thanks, PTR. Some of us appreciate the info.
