Revenge Factor: yeah, it's only a preseason game. Seems, though, that the Packers are a wee bit annoyed about all the blitzing the Bills did in the scrimmage. *NEWSFLASH* : this IS the Bills' base defense. They've been blitzing Losman ever since OTAs, they blitzed on over half of the passing plays in certain games last season, and I don't expect those percentages to change any this season. SO if the Packers don't like it, maybe they should learn to block it better? From the quotes I see this is exactly the Packers attitude and why they will likely may an inspired effort against the blitz. Folks whining about a sense they were whining seems misguided from the quotes I saw. From the OL position coach who said the players simply need to play better to Brett favre who said that the Bills kicked their butts with the blitz their OL has been challenged by their team leadership. I hope Favre is right and the real deal here is simply that the Bills are more skilled. J.P. Factor: first home start, under the lights, in front of a sellout crowd. Think he'll be geeked for this game? Let's see how that affects his early-game performance... i.e., will he be TOO fired up and come out throwing 10 feet over the WR's head on the first couple of passes? Deep breaths, J.P. Calm down. You'll do just fine .... It has been interesting to watch him go through a series of first time experiences as an NFL QB (his first appearance as a pro against NE. his first time coming into a game holding a lead (one of his mop up job last year), his first time starting in a sold out Lambeau Field against GB in a scrimmage, his first time starting against opponents last week). He actually seemes tobe what you describe as geeked up for each of these appearances and a bit over-anxious and that gets reflected in his play (the NE debacle when he was thrown to the wolves, an immediate delay of game in his first mop-up as he failed to command the huddle, some overthrows in the scrimmage though he got off to a good start, a bad start last week). For the most part he does seem to settle down eventually and we see some of the promise that got him drafted but I will be glad when his more of a vet and does not get geeked up. Ongoing battles: Shaud Williams vs. Lionel Gates vs. ReShard Lee for #2 RB. Advantage, Williams. Agreed so far, but I still feel uncomfortable with this smaller player being called upon to last if worse comes to worse with WM. Jabari Greer vs. Eric King for #3 CB. I'm really starting to have my doubts we'll see Kevin Thomas play any time soon. I think Greer has this job and I see King needing at least a year before he seriously competes for the nickel. I have heard nothing really about Thomas good or bad, but the lack of good means he is likely not our #3 at all. Constantin Ritzmann vs. George Gause for #4 DE.... assuming the Bills KEEP four DEs on the active roster. I think our scheme is such that actually we are seeing 2 interchangeable slots at DE backed up by Denney rather than 2 DEs who should be backed up by 4 players. If anything, our scheme allows Posey to line up as an end making this position become are alternative for a 4th DE in case of injury to out starting to before we would depend on Ritzman or Gause. ST chops will probably make the difference who gets kept between these two rather than position play. Justin Bannan vs. Lauvale Sape for #4 DT. Sape's been getting the ink lately - after the punt block, Indy's punter called him "really big and really fast and really scary". Same deal that other uses (Sape ST, Bannan utility in the redzone on O will make the ultimate difference rather than position play as Adams, Edwards, Anderson and Denney plugged in in a 3 DE set are the options for the two DT positions before we get to Sape or Bannan. Backup O-linemen: what exactly DO the Bills have, once you get past Tucker and Preston? I'll be watching big #71, Jason Peters, for continued progression. Again how the scheme gets put together seems more important than a pure judgment of who is a better player at a particular spot. I think C is the best position for Teague, but if Gandy falls apart the option may well be to put him at LT creating the C issues. A lot depends on what JMac judges to be our best bet for a starting point. Seeya in Lot 1 in about 2 hours.......

The Bills do have cap space (about $3 million is last estimate from Clumpy I remember) but there is an outstanding question as to whether that cap space is enough to pay NC whatthe market is likely to provide him and/or he asks for. From what I see and the incomplete sense we all have of the Bills cap because we are not privy to all the contracts or TD's budget (which ultimately must satisfy RWS) if NC wants and the market sets his pay at the level of the best CB in the league it will be very very very hard if not impossible to satisfy this level of pay with the cap room we have. There are tons of mechanism for making huge salary levels work within the CBA such as tiered bonuses, but al of these have risks for either side beyond the pure salary amount which they may or may not be willing to take. There is also a big unanswerable question for us fans of how much of less than market valuedo you think NC is willing to take to be a Bill. On the contrary to those who feel a deal can and will be done quite soon, I disagree because it is simply too uncertain without being in both TDs and NCs heads and hearts to know whether a deal will be done soon or cannot be done at all. However in the guesstimate world all of us outside parties live in, it looks pretty unlikely by he numbers that if NC wants to be paid like a top 5 CB that it will even be mathematically possible to satisfy this requirement under the CBA until the new much larger salary cap is in effect. I hope i am wrong and will be pleased to see someone give the numbers that work rather than all of our fact-free hope this will work.

Anyone worried about going to the game
Fake-Fat Sunny replied to HtownBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think one could go nuts trying to figure out all the possible targets (and thankfully for out society some people are willing to do this and prepare for the worse so the rest of us can generally go about our lives) and one should give it some thought but not so much thought that it interferes with life. If one chooses to think about likely targets then the key to this really starts with trying to understand the opponents goals in terms of trying to predict what they might do. I think we Americans actually tend to be weak in these areas as we incorrectly assume that the goals we think are reasonable are the goals other think are reasonable. As correct as we are in all things (just ask my wife) this simply is not the case. My perception is that Al Quaeda (to the extent they can even be considered to have a command and control system similar to Western thinking) has goals which at the very least center on the Mideast as a starting point if they have some Westernized plan of world domination and actually center on the Mid-east as an endpoint. The Prez and others actually seem to be fooling themselves into believing they are so important if they want to reduce Al Qs motivation down to the notion that they are motivated by their hatred of us. Actually, I don't think we are that important and a central focus of their's (as much as we want to exaggerate our importance). They do not like us at all and do hate us in a real way, but from what I can see 9/11 was actually a means to their broader goals involving their view of God and the mideast and the attack was not motivated by some foolish attempt to kill 300 million Americans starting with 3000 (of 50,000 if the killed all in the towers). They actually used the attack as a means to an end to show they could hit what they view as the Great Satan in his financial capital and having done so they already achieved great benefit in terms of recruiting and showing some cojones back home. Perhaps it is time again to demonstrate their strength to the masses they target with another attack on the US. I doubt it as they have tended to operate on a much larger timeline and their true targets are elsewhere than here. Thesad thing about 9/11 is that I think that the deaths and suffering of our countrymen was actually collateral damage for them as a means to go after their true goals. Who knows, but the best proof of this is that quite frankly if they chose to give their lives to kill Americans and wreak havoc on our complex economic system it would not actually be that difficult to do. You pick a weaker target like a train after we spent billions on planes or you take a low-tech straightforward approach rather than the higher tech things we often focus upon and the chances of success are quite high. -
Nope. However, $1 more in reinvestment money is $1 more than we had yesterday and the millions talked about is millions more. Why do folks insist that a graded moderate reaction to something as being marginally better than the current situation must instead be judged to be some ground-brealing huge change? Rearranging the deck chairs will not stop the ship from sinking, but if the ship is not going to sink in your life time then putting the deck chairs in a more comfortable or efficient order is not an unreasonable thing to do. My particular sense is that government leaders and certainly not the business community are NOT going to be the leaders in reversing downward trends in Buffalo. It was our business leadership and practices which led the charge over the last 50 years that has seen the downward spiral. I mean who do you judge was in charge? Welfare queens? Labor unions? The Symbionese Liberation Army? No. Get a clue. Pooe people are poor. Labor is in sharp decline and has been for awhile. The Lefto idiots either get killed or have kids and become more conservative. The impressive trick that the big money forces in society have pulled off is that not only have they bellied up the bar of society and gained and enjoyed their wealth, but they have suceeded in blaming the poor and other forces for all the mistakes which have happened with them having far more influence if not control over how things have gone. The only good thing I see in the recent meltdown of Erie County under GOP control of both the executive and legislative branches is that both the GOP and the Dems have zero case to make with the public that they have the right answers and residents and citizen groups are stepping up to take things over like never before.

Anyone worried about going to the game
Fake-Fat Sunny replied to HtownBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it merits extra security due to the factors you mentioned, but while the stakes certainly seem to make it appropriate for us to be somewhat neurotic about it, it seems to me that choosing not to participate or attend these events due to fear of the unknown goes into the psycotic and we do not want to do that. Oneof my favorite quotes about democracy is that it is not a suicide pact. In general, the strong bias toward individual rights and suspicion of the government is a good thing which has served us well in terms of individuals being able to do what they want and our society lasting a long time. However, those individual abilities (rights if you want to call them that) are always balanced and restricted by the society generally working with a view of my rights ending where yours begin and vice-versa and a specific sense spurred by the death and trauma of 9/11 that we are willing to give up some of our individual rights and abilities in exchange for greater security. The bottomline is that we need to put up with an articulated greater level of security on this anniversary because it is prudent, but also because it is a good thing to remember those who sacrificed on 9/11 anyway so tangible reminders while we have fun with football are a good thing. As far as the specifics of threats that day. One different thing about the al Quaeda mind I notice is that they seem to have a different perspective on the import of anniversaries than we have from what I can tell. I don't think they're mindset or target selection has the same neurotic almost psychotic interest in anniversaries that we have so I am not sure that 9/11 in iteself poses a substantially higher risk because they want to "celebrate" the anniersary. The western mind and way of thinking has so infected the world that perhaps they have picked up this trait so there is a substanitally higher risk on 9/11. However, it would seem to be a good organizing and accomplishment strategy to aim for a second date and make 2 dates of 9/aa import on the road to creating 365 dates of import. The bottomline is be careful but not psychotic and give them a win by completely altering your behavior. -
If a deal is negotiated that impacts this year's base pay then I believe that counts aginst this years pay. However, I believe any bonus payout would be prorated over the life of the new contract. I think this bonus is the issue as merely to hold the payment to a prorated level equal to the extra cap room we have right now would mean a 6 year contract to prorate an $18 million into a $3 mill per year cap hit and any salarry payments equalling at least the vet minmum for that year on top o that. By dividing the bonus into two tiers the Bills could reduce the cap hit and amount to be prorate, but the future bonus would credibly have to be something NC might actually fail to make or it will be ruled an easily made bonus and the full bonus assesed. If I am NC I would be quite reluctant to take a deal for a bonus I would not get if I got hurt bad enough to ruin my effectiveness but not bad enough to end my career for example. My guess is that it makes by far the most sense for NC not to sign before he hits the market and when he does for the Bills to tag him. Negotiating now makes sense even if no final deal is likely because there are enough details that the quicker you start working the quicker you get done regardless of the outcome.
-
The Bills would not tag Clements (if they choose to do so before next seasons FA signing period so there is no way they make this move simply because he fails to resign before the season begins. All signs point to this at least being a long drawn out discussion because even if both sides decide to a deal, it will almost certainly call for the bonus to be paid in two tiers because of salary cap restrictions under the current cap number and simply negotiating the details of this will take a while. I think the more likely case is that it will not be in Clements interests to sign a deal before the cap for next season is released after this season and no deal will occur until next year and likely the best move for the Bills will be to franchise tag Clements. I think most of us Bills fans are getting our panties all up in wad over something that will be decided months from now and likely next year.

Packers Crying about us Blitzing
Fake-Fat Sunny replied to NJ_BillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
MM seems to generally take an approach of hiding things in plain site. Rather than confusing the opponents about what we might do by not showing them things he seems to make a point of showing the opponents all sorts of things so that they cannpt guess what he is is going to do in a particular situation, My guess is that in pre-season we are going to use every blitz we have so that the opponents are forced to prepare for them all. -
As one who has been there it is better than a Holiday Inn (which sometimes do not even have a real restaurant in them and not as good as most good hotels in many towns (I've never stayed at the Adams Mark which is the competing major hotel downtown but it looks a bit better than the Hyatt). Regardless of one's judgment about the relative quality of the Hyatt this is good news (if true as it does seem to be tentative so far and it is merely in the Buff News which is no gurantee or accuracy) across the board as it means someone pumping millions into this hotel for renovation which will not only improve it but force the Adams Mark to decide whether to upgrade to compete or not. It also means that forces in the private sector feel they can make a buck investing in a downtown Buffalo location.

I scanned the thread on TSW which expressed disappointment about the Packers "whining" about the blitzing we did in the scrimmage with us and the first few post attacked the Pack for quotes from their side which were described as attacking the Bills for blitzing too much in a scrimmage no one prepared for, There were a few posts which said they did not read the quotes that way and a harsh retort which cited the number of reports of folks who read it as an attack and said so there to the posts which read it differently. Oddly, no one posted a link or even cited the offending quotes, So, I went to TSW and looked for myself and found an AP article, a Milwaukee entinel atticle and a Packers website report which contained a series of quotes about the Bills tactics in the scrimmage. IMHO opinion it turns out that unfortunately it was a group of TSW posters who were the one whining about the Pack allegedly whining. A Pack coach Rossley was prominently featured and actually he said the Packers were unprepared for the Bills blitz but found fault with his players for not being prepared and said they were not gameplanning in particular for a pre-season game they were working to improve their blitz pick-up. Favre was quoted in a way that actually complimented the Bills and challenged his own OL saying he was sorry to play a team again which kicked their butts the last time. Sherman a Pack coach said he would have no problem sitting Favre is the OL play did not improve rather than risk injury to him. I also will pass on providing a direct link to articles because they are all on TBD homepage and seem to take the same approach. It is somewhat disappointing to see all the whining about the alleged whining because it provides a clear case that many posters descriptions of other views are simply wrong. Im fact, playing GB again will provide an interesting test. 1. Will the Packers gameplanning (call it what they will) for our blitzes or seeing it for a second time allow them to effectively defense it or are our guys so good they will kick their butts as Favre says. I expect improvement from the Pack as they really were clearly unaware of what they would run into at the scrimmage, but even if the sack count drops from and unofficial 8 to a more official 4 this bodes well for our pass rush. 2. The Pack is having big injury problems at CB and youngster Ahmad Carroll wuill start. JP should light them up or I will be bit disappointed.

Backup QB scenario for this year...
Fake-Fat Sunny replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed that the most likely scenario is JP, Holcomb. Matthews with Woodbury as a an ST player who can sub at QB in a slash role and in a real pinch. The decison will come down to the degree Matthews adds the highest value in terms of tutuelage of JP ask Holcomb's role is to be a sounding board for JP but also to improve him by breathing down his neck as a competitor while disaster QB Matthews can be a more co-operative sounding board or there is a higher value to be found in keeping Woodbury on the active roster as a slash player and ST guy who can be disaster QB if necessary. In a perfect world we would keep both, but actually it is a player like Drew Haddad forcing himself onto the roster as an extra WR with ST chops or Leonhard forcing himself onto the active roster as an extra safety with ST chops that would force us to make a choice between Woodbury and Matthews Right now Woodbury is behind because he has not established himself as anything more than a good ST player and we have a bunch of those. however, if he establishes himself as being a usable slash player or better than out LB ST aces, then if AVP can actually play the mentor role at QB Woodbury stays. This is no answer to the final question because there are too many options and variables right now. -
How much do you care about details on injuries?
Fake-Fat Sunny replied to 34-78-83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Unfortunately as usual I need a third choice. I really want info on injuries to players essential to whether we can compete for the playoffs this season such as if there was an injury to WM. However, I really am fine with the level of info given out regarding our potential #3 WR. Rven regarding the injury to JP last year, i was most interested in whether it would impact him in the long-run but once it was clear that he would likely eventually be fine I was pleased that there was no chance for him to play as it stopped mindless argument or any temptation to rush him along. As far as the general point, it would be fine with me it the regular season rules for teams applied to the pre-season that they are forced to reveal injuries, their location on the body, and some prognosis as to when he will play that can be expressed in percentages since no one really knows. I don't need to know everything and a choice that is between knowing everything or knowing nothing is not a real choice. -
Quite Frankly, Steven A. Smith is not popular
Fake-Fat Sunny replied to SilverNRed's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I doubt that the door will completely swing both ways regarding comments by blacks regarding whites because the door did not swing both ways regarding one race getting the short end of the stick in terms of past history. The justification is there that consideration of these issues today should be equal, but the facts are that it certainly was not equal in the past, due to the effects of the past outcomes would not be equal today if everyone was suddenlu and correctly judged only by their individual character, actually people are not judged solely based on their individual character but study after studt which attempt to hold racial issues as equal make findings such as African-Americans are far less likely to receive loans from banks even when they present income and wealth at similar levels to white applicants. I wish everyone were simply judged by their own character and the facts of their situation but they are not. Perhaps we want to make it incumbent upon Africam-Americans or other racial minorities to always demonstrate the fiar judgment we all should have. However, even if Steven Smith and all African-Americans employed race neutral fairness I'm afraid the door would not be swinging both ways if they were totally fair. Society has improved a lot since the days of Jim Crow Laws and segregated lunch counters, but I'm afraid we aren't there yet. One should stand up an dquestion the racial politics of Steven Smith, but in the same breath one needs to also question the racial politics of David Duke who was almost elected the governor of LA no too long ago and also acknowledge the actions of folks from Colin Powell to be more fair and accurate about this issue. -
WGR...I can't believe how awful it is
Fake-Fat Sunny replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think folks should use the potential power of the Internet and TSW to organize something that will force them to make changes or simply not bother posting about the stupid personalities there. I find it fair game and interesting to readand post about the occaisional interesting issue that the bring up that is posted on TSW but in general the only thing worse than those folks whining with no real impact on an issue is folks whining about them with no real impact. If folks are really concerned about their antics then organize a series of phone calls to one of their major sponsors saying you will not buy their products unless the demonstrably change their antics. Alternately if you don't think this will work fine then organize something through our talk on TSW that you think will work. Otherwise just let it go because the pointless complaints here sound a lot like them. -
Who would you rather have opening day...
Fake-Fat Sunny replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the answer to this one is easy because the key to winning for both teams is the same given the skills and status of these two athletes. They key for either of these two0 teams is to design and implement their O and the team as a whole so that neither is dependent upon QB performance to win. This is a tough thing to do but the best job of doing this was the Ravens in their SB year when their D was so good they won it all with their QB being called upon only as a caretaker minimizing mistakes. Pennington is a better player than JP this year because of his experience. However, his recovery from injury simply makes him too uncertain an element to count on and the Jets will do well building around the newly acquired Ty Law and asking Fiedler (not a winning QB in the past in a big enough way) to caretake if necessary to allow them to win. JP is not an injury issue as he shows all signs of being fully recovered from the fracture which reduced his PT (thankfully as the study time was what he needed to develop) last year. However, in addition to the study time and the needed attitude adjustments MM gave him by throwing him into the NE game, JP like all QBs will need some gametime to truly develop and at times he is likely to be downright awful until he does. There are extraordinary cases like BB/Weis managing Brady where this can be done quite well and cases like Pitts and RoboQB where he failed in a Bledsoe like fashion when called upon to lead the team to victory against the Pats in the conference title game, but he was tolerable putting up pederstrian stats while the Bus and Staley carried the O load for them last year. It really depends on what happens like most things but looking at it theoretically on the opening day question for different reasons these two QBs are the same for a team that wants to win next year. -
As Teddy KGB said on Rounders...
Fake-Fat Sunny replied to FTW_BillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah but... 1. The new CBA is not here yet and the Bills ability to pay (even if they want to now) will be much higher later. Thus, both sides will probably want to wait to ink a deal until then. 2. There are negotiated mechanisms such as tiered payments by which the cap hit can be pushed back into the future when the cap is larger, but no one knows exactly what the new cap # will be and there is some risk to NC involved in tiering as he will not have this money in hand or even guaranteed as as soon as he has it (or it is judged by the NFL to be a certainty he will get it) this amount counts against the cap. 3. The devil is in the details and attempting to sign a deal which meets both the goals of keeping NC a Bill and paying him what the market says a CB should get is incredibly complex and will not only take a lot of time but even more if one is trying to circumvent the uncertainties of a cap that will be installed sooner or later. It certainly is possible to do a deal, but if I am NC I really would be reluctant to sign a deal now unless TD was willing to turn the keys to the team over to me and under the rules of the CBA it does not appear that TD (or Ralph actually) can do this even if they want to. Whether TD wants to show NC the money or not a deal seems pretty unlikely befre the new cap kicks in. -

Fake-Fat Sunny replied to SilverNRed's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Believe it or not I do work for a living. My lengthier posts come from me having the benefit of conference calls which I can monitor and be ready when asked to speak (which is fairly predictable given the agenda but I'm on monitoring while conversation occurs I have nothing to offer as the agenda can be changed and my area gets moved up). Thus, I am able to mute my side of the call and still listen and type to my hearts content (and even get paid to do this on occaision). Today is simply a busier day with preparations for a meeting later so thus my posts are less verbose. -
Tom Clements to be on the sideline in games
Fake-Fat Sunny replied to kota's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It made sense to me for an OC because there is such a better view of the schmetics of the game from up above. One needs to balance this with there being a far better sense of how the flow of the game feels to be found on the fieldamidst the players (you can look forlks in the eye and tell when they are ready to perform or are they scared and this can make a real difference on what is the correct play call. However, it always seemed to me that ifthe co-ordinator were up in the booth for the most part calling and controlling the scheme and the HC was on the ground making the final judgment on critical calls like change of possession and the redzone and kibbitzing as needed on particular calls then you can serve both beasts. -

The HIPAA excuse regarding injury reports
Fake-Fat Sunny replied to Fake-Fat Sunny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No one has any right to data about health issues, but gambling is the thing which makes it folks business and business trumps rights almost every time. Forces in society clearly will discriminate when it is allowed to get away with it aand this is why HIPAA is important in my view. There are few things more egregious than how the health care industry tkes bucks from those least able to defend themselves in society because of the occurence of illness. However, my guess (and this is just a guess because how the issue gets framed when injected into the public sphere will likely make a big difference in outcomes) is that the ill and poor will not do as well framing this issue in the context of whether rich teams and rich athletes can use HIPAA to keep down info which creates the illusion of a level playing field in working stiffs gambling. -

Bingo!!! Whikle those listed above like fanatasy fools and reporters are important to this desire the NFL is fulfilling, it appears to be gambling which is the big money and interest machine here that is driving the acress to injurt information. Its not that the injury info actually creates a level playing field as insiders will always be able to pull a Martha Stewart and get info you and I will never have. However, though the reporting of data it at least feeds to or creates the illusion of a level play field and this isl important to keep folks betting and watching to see how their bets play out. -

As they attempt to replicate things which worked before because they were fresh then (like Stuart Scott) when the attempt to do it again or adjust it to make it even more in your face it comes across as little more than a parody. Even Stuart Scott who was a funny change of pace when he was not the norm is now a little bit old INHO as they seek vehicles for him. Even Chris Berman who was fresh and interesting compared to stiffs like Sonny Jurgenson has not made the transition to being like Uncle Walter Cronkite because the old hands are good because they are quiet and steady an the stichk of doing 70s songs in names just gets older and older and i don't know enough of late 90s tunes to allow this to translate. I would be pleased if OLN becomes a market alterative to ESPN as competition may push both to be better. Its not guramteed because that same competition in a media forum has resulted in both CNN and Fox being pretty bad, but hope springs eternal. -
The HIPAA excuse regarding injury reports
Fake-Fat Sunny replied to Fake-Fat Sunny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This ia question for the lawyers out there, but as best as I can tell there clearly is am ability under the law for the "patient" to release the doctor from any liability for specific releases of information necessitated by this commerce need. It likely is a question of undecided law whether a release of injury information required by the NFL would be allowed or not, however, it again seems to be clearly the allowed practice in the regular season including info about the location of the injury and how the player practiced as well as the prognosis for how long they are out. If Sully thinks that info on the status of our potential #3 WR is so important he has a forum where he could argue that the law be settled in this particular area. He doesn't even d that. Instead he just rants about the Bills not spoonfeeding him info on this side point when I wish this reporter would actually do a little work and report on a key issue for Bills fans like the OL status, prospects and actions being taken -
Clements agent at Tues. practice
Fake-Fat Sunny replied to Dan III's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I also think there is no debate that NC is a far better position player at CB than McGee. If you choose not to believe me (my wife will tell ya never believe me) then actually believe NFL QBs and OCs who given a choice of who to pick on or who to line their top receiver up against rotinely picked on the young m Mcgee rather than the playmaker NC. Nevertheless, their is the age and development issue. McGee was picked on quite badly and gave up a long pass reception a game in mid-season when the injury to Vincent forced us to use this youngster as a position player. Yet, I judge that there was improvement in his game (he achieved adequacy at best at CB toward the end of last year) over the course of the season. McGee does not show as much at CB as a youngster as Clements did (NC could be burned, but he picked off the likes of Peyton Manning and whoever was QB for Miami at the time for TDs as a young player). However. given the improvement to adequacy last year, given that McGee has shown some flashes of brilliance already in the pre-season game and the scrimmage as a cover guy, and given that compared to Winfield, it was actually the young NC who got picked on his first couple of years like McGee is correctly picked on compared to going up against Clements it is not an unreasonable judgment that McGee might one day assume the #1 CB role for the Bills. My sense is that the best thing for the Bills to do is to sign McGee now to a cheaper long-term deal. We have tremendous leverage on him because it is two seasons before he hits the open market and eve if he craps out as a CB, we likely will get substantial benefit from him as a KR guy. Fiscally, it probably makes themost sense for us to franchise tag NC next year. He gets a large payment ofthe average of the top 5 cap hits, but not as large a cash outlay as a likely bonus payment if we signed him. He probably plays hard as recent franchisees have done because in essence they are in a contract year, though they deal with the dissatisfaction of the instability by getting a huge payment in base salary. Particularly in this transition year heading toward a new salary cap franchise tagging him probably makes the most sense. -
Are any of the sports networks good newa? I don't think so. The good ol' American way of competition is the best thing here (when the other guy is competing) and the major problem here it strikes me is that we choose through out government to allow powerful folks to buy monopolies with campaign contributions and justify it as streamlining which allows a standard in this new communication field to be set by bright guys (and folks like Microsoft generally demonstrate how bright they are by buying (stealing) something from someone else.
