Don't be surprised if TE Todd Heap becomes expendable
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Are you for real? http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-r...p&type=lgns http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/rumors/post/Ha...?urn=nfl,149797 The knock on Smith has been his health and his drops at inopportune times. Harbaugh is looking at him for his speed, so what in the world are YOU talking about?? Maybe you better get your facts straight pal. -
I like it, it's entertaining.

Don't be surprised if TE Todd Heap becomes expendable
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that there are other benefits to adding Heap. When he came into the league he was mentored by Shannon Sharpe. Heap's knowledge and experience would be something that our young TE/HBs could draw from, especially Derek Fine. Having Heap being able to block is an added bonus for us because there is no doubt about his receiving abilities. Harbaugh runs a very regiment camp and with Heap's health history I would think that it might not be the most condusive camp for a 29 year old TE who has had suspect health even though he did play in all 16 games last year. This could be where Jauron's demeanor becomes a good thing. I believe that Heap is the kind of player who would want to prove that he can still play at a high level. He wasn't happy about being used as a blocker but he did it and didn't complain. -

We rent him for a year or two, like we did with TO. There's nothing wrong with a "retread". The Patriots has won championships with them. Iremeber when we got WR James Lofton. I thought that he was long in tooth but the guy went on to add to his huge career with us. I totally agree with you. I hear ya stuckincincy and I respect your opinion on this, especially because I know that you pay attention to the AFC North. I do have confidence in our medical staff and if they cleared him for the intermediate future then I'm all in on this trade. There's no reason why we still couldn't draft a TE to develope. I like what Heap could bring for us and that's not for us to have to emphasize getting a TE early in this draft. I don't believe that we are good enough as a team for us to be able to afford a luxury pick on a TE. We have just as big, if not bigger, needs to address early in our draft. -
I've posted about Heap before and now I believe that he's all the more going to become available. Seeing that the Ravens have recently signed TE L.J. Smith, Heap is more expendable than ever before. Not only is Smith the pass catching TE that they have been looking for but he also has a history with HC John Harbaugh. Couple that with the Ravens keeping Heap in to block and it's easy to envision that he doesn't fit into the Ravens' future. Heap's contract and injury history plays against him. Knowing that the Bills have expressed interest in Tony Gonzalez before makes me think that they would be willing to make a trade for another veteran. The good news is that Heap was healthier than he has been in the last few years and it shouldn't take more than a mid rd pick to obtain him in a trade. Hopefully Buffalo makes this happen, it would be one less need to fill come draft day.

Preston's Comments on the Bills as a Packer
Tipster19 replied to LynchMob23's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Preston Says Bills Are “Grasping At Straws” Posted by Mike Florio on March 31, 2009, 8:24 p.m. EDT So to go another team and another division that kind of is on the upper tier of it instead of trying to claw their way into the upper tier is a cool opportunity.” I don't know how to quote an article or to make a statement in bold but this is the remark that irks me in the article. How about having some fight and backbone? Shouldn't you be part of the solution or answer to help make a difference? Gutless coward. Good riddance! -
First off let me start off by saying that I like Brandon. I think that he is a bright young talent who wears many facets well. I f he was good enough for John Butler then he's good enough for me. Keep in mind that Butler was a scout and a talent evaluator and not just on the field. Where AJ Smith was such an odd duck Butler saw something in him and adored the guy. Like Smith or not but I don't think that anyone can question his vision, competency and decision making. Smith is one of the best GMs in the game. Here is where our draft will go. Forget an early pick used on a DT. After reading what Brandon had to say about our specific targets and his comments on Jason Peters, his perception of our team and fanbase and that losing is unacceptable, I'm of the belief that we not only re-sign Peters but our draft will go something like this. 1st rd- DE Aaron Maybin 2nd rd- OG Duke Robinson 3rd rd- OLB Tyrone McKenzie As far as a TE goes I expect the Bills to work out a trade for one. I'm thinking that a trade for Todd Heap is a very good possibility for Roscoe Parrish and an undetermined draft pick.

If you were building a team, what defensive position
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Look at the 1st rd of the draft since 2000. Between 2001-2003 seems to be the biggest run on DTs. 2000- 2 DTs were taken. 2001- 5 DTs were taken including Marcus Stroud. 2002- 4 DTs were taken including John Henderson. Jacksonville made it a priority, taking DTs in consecutive drafts. 2003- 4 DTs were taken. 2004- 2 DTs were taken. 2005- 2 DTs were taken. 2006- 3 DTs were taken including McCargo. 2007- 3 more DTs were taken including Adam Carriker who is listed as a NT. 2008- 2 DTs were taken. Outside of the 2001-2003 draft (3 years) there has only been 14 DTs taken in the 1st rd in 6 drafts. I don't think that this is a lot of prospects selected at a position that is considered to being so important to a defense. My question is this, are so few DTs taken in the 1st rd because of the lack of quality of players or is it because it's not the most important position to fill? -

So far the consensus is favoring DTs. Why in the world has Buffalo, outside of Stroud, has made concessions at this position? -

Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You have to pick one position only fellas. Which one would you start with and why? -
Of course this would be based on what kind of defensive scheme that you employed. If it was a 4-3 defense then I would start with a MLB and if it was a 3-4 defense that I would start with a NT. Like in baseball I believe that your strength would have to start up the middle of your defense. Who would you start with and why?

I don't know why everyone is clamoring for this guy. He didn't even catch a TD his senior year and never caught more than 4 a year during his college career. If Buffalo did land up drafting him it wouldn't be for his pass catching ability. He'll never be a game changing receiver. How unhappy would everyone be then? Agreed. He's not. I would love to see Buffalo draft SC's TE Jared Cook. The guy is a speed freak and he'll blow past LBs. I wanted the Bills to take Dustin Keller last year, well now I want Cook this year.

I would like to offer the idea of value in trading for the future. I don't believe that the Bills are far from competing in our division this year. What is needed is added pieces not an overhaul and that is what spurred this idea. There are teams that have new coaches who are going to install their new schemes. They either have to do a roster purge or try to incorporate new players to their existing players who don't fit their team's new direction. I think that a purge is more than likely because it's a win now league. This is an opportunity to where the Bills could utilize and benefit from. I would rather see the Bills sacrifice their top pick for added players of need and/or future or multiple draft picks. This is where Denver comes into the picture. One of the positions of concern for the Bills is DE. The Broncos are switching from a 4-3 to 3-4 (New England style) and they have current players that don't fit this profile. If Denver were to have the #11 and #12 picks in the draft they would be able to retool their DL. DE Jarvis Moss is a pass rushing DE best suited for a 4-3 defense that is becoming miscast in the new defensive philosophy of josh McDaniel's defense. Add in that they have TE Tony Scheffler that they are willing to trade that would be a welcomed addition to Buffalo's arsenal and you have some key components to a possible trade. If we were to trade our #11 pick to Denver for their 2010 1st rd pick, DE Jarvis Moss and TE Tony Scheffler then this could be appealing for not only for the present but also for the future. Added compensation is needed to shore up equal value. Swapping our 4th rd pick (#110) for Denver's 2nd rd pick (#48) in this year's draft would make this a pretty palatable trade for both parties. We not only addressed some of our current needs but we also have set ourselves up for great leverage in next year's draft. Meanwhile Denver is able to revamp their current roster and should be willing to trade out next year's 1st rd pick to do so.

I just realized looking at your avatar that I and the Bills have been in existence the same amount of time! Wow! I AM the Bills! LOL!

What a vast improvement that would mean for this anemic offense. I believe that it could even be more TDs but I wanted to post a realistic projection. That's what all the national experts are overlooking, we haven't had a double digit TD receiver in years and this season we might even have two. Wow! Go Bills!

I understand your post and have often sympathized with your feelings but as a typical Buffalo fan it galvanizes me and I take it as a challenge. In the spirit of the late great Tim Russert I'm going to pick myself up and brush myself off and get ready for another season. What you are asking is, do I dare to dream? My answer is yes, a resounding yes and I'll tell you why. It's too late for me to "choose" a team. I haven't been a Buffalo Bill fan for nearly 4 decades now for nothing but instead I rather think of it as that I have lived being a Buffalo Bill fan for something. I have shown grit and resolve as a Bills' fan and in life thru many, many years now and I'm proud of that. I'm an example of of this franchise, of this region and of the mindset of never saying never. I can't be somebody else. I'll take another decade of not being in the play-offs for the chance of celebrating a Super Bowl victory as a Bills' fan. Could you imagine the glorious feelings and emotions if that were to happen? How would you feel if you were no longer a Bills' fan and that were to happen? Don't allow this to happen to yourself, you came too far. Speak of life, not death. Speak of success, not failure. Speak of hope, not doom. Speak of joy, not misery. I used to love to look thru the Sunday newspaper supplements but during these economic hard times I don't let myself, I can't afford it. I'm replacing my joy with resolve but that's ok, I have responsibilities. I also love being a Buffalo Bill fan and I'm still going to allow myself to be. Why? Because I already afforded it and paid for it. I paid for that debt a long time ago in full because I paid for it with my heart. I still have the resolve and I still have responsibility and that is as a Buffalo Bill fan. I think that I have come to a conclusion. It no longer is about the wins or the losses, it's just about being. It's about being a faithful, loyal Buffalo Bill fan thru thick or thin, rain or shine. I'm not questioning you friend, I'm just defining a Buffalo Bill fan. I can't and won't abandon the Bills now because I think about the Bills EVERY single day. They have been a fiber of me now for decades. I swear that they must be a part of my DNA. Sometimes I think of the pictures and images of my sons when they were little boys dressed in their Buffalo Bills' pajamas, knowing that the Bills hold a special place in their hearts no matter where they are in this world because of their dad. The Bills are important to them because of me and THAT gives me great joy. When they think of the Bills, they think of me. How great of an honor is that? How can I forget and turn my back on that legacy? I can't.

RIP Lou and thank you for being one of us. One of us has fallen, it's a dark day in Buffalo.

This recent "rumor" really got me thinking
Tipster19 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would like to see our first home game this year honoring Mr. Wilson before we miss the opportunity to show our true appreciation as a community for him. We don't need ESPN, national media or any other publicity. Mr. Wilson and western New York don't need any of them, this should be a private lovefest because he's OUR HOFer! -
This recent "rumor" really got me thinking
Tipster19 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I heard a caller on Sirius radio today from Buffalo call in and ask if they heard anything to do with the rumors on the internet that Mr. Wilson passed away last night. Right then my heart sank. My next emotion was fear, a lot of it and it had nothing to do about the future of the franchise. It was all about losing this elderly statesman of the NFL but more importantly it was the realization that we just might have lost one of us, the biggest one of us. He IS the Buffalo Bills and we are all just along for the ride. Before it's too late I want to say one thing and that is, Thanks Mr. Wilson, thank you for all that you have given us for so many decades. The added purpose in our lives that you have provided for so many of us can't be repaid or expressed properly. Regardless of what happens to this franchise after Mr. Wilson passes, it or us, will never be the same. I'll never be negative again in terms of Mr. Wilson and I'll miss him terribly after he's gone, I realized that for a brief moment today. He's my family and regardless if I like or dislike what he does I love like a grandfather. -
Forget about the draft order, who the Bills pick and all

Latest McShay Mock Draft
Tipster19 replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gil Brandt was singing the praises over this T.J Lang. He said that he's a real under the radar kind of player. I take what Brandt says to heart, the guy just flat out knows talent. Everyone quotes Mayock this and Kiper that but none of all these "experts" are a pimple on the old guy's @$$ when it comes to evaluating football players. -
I'm not sure how I feel about trading him. I guess it would depend on how Peters feels about being in Buffalo. If he wants to be difficult, then maybe we should get compensated now for him before this thing turns into a big mess. I know that I would feel a lot better about it if I knew that our young guys ( Bell and Chambers) were really ready to take on a bigger role in our offensive line. http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/eagles...for_Eagles.html

I totally agree. Speaking of Richard Seymor, I wouldn't be too surprised if he were to land up in a trade to KC with some draft picks for the #3 pick overall draft pick. He's due big money, his cap charge for 2009 is $11.34 million and as of right now he's scheduled to be a free agent in 2010. The Chiefs are draft pick poor and have the wrong personnel for what they want to incorporate philosophy wise. Add in that the Patriots have picks to spend, the front office of both franchises are friendly and Curry would be a good fit for New England. Here's what the Patriots have in picks in this year's draft.
