For years Ozzie Newsome and the Ravens drafted the best player even if there were no need and they always turned up gems (Jonathan Ogden comes to mind). Andy Reid and the Eagles stockpiled their secondary when there seemed to be no need there and they had some of their best years because of it. If Buffalo was able to draft a stud at a position that appears that we have no need for I would be good with that. One can never tell how the future will unfold and because of that I'd like to see Buffalo accumulate as many of the best players that they can, especially when we have such high picks in each round, we need to make those picks count and quit chasing lesser players because of our needs.

Ouch, I'm hoping that one of the 3 players in your top 6 slides to us. In this order this my list of preference. 1. Dion Jordan 2. Ezekiel Ansah 3. Dee Milliner (only so we can trade down with another team who needs a CB. Tampa?) Btw, nice job on a good, sensible approach on potential candidates. Looking and seeing on who will and why will be there for when we pick, it's hard to dispute. If I have to pick from your list(s) then here who I would like in this order. 1. Chance Warmack 2. Jarvis Jones 3. Xavier Rhodes (if we were to choose him then I would expect and agree on us just keeping him instead of trading back and only because we do have a need at this position and I don't expect someone to trade up for him as much as I did if it were Milliner.)
-
I'm mildly surprised that nobody is mentioning Tampa. They have 2 big needs at the CB and DT positions and we should be in line to be able to choose from some good talent at those positions. Of course Dee Milliner would have to slide to us but I think that we have a good shot of that happening and especially if the trade for Revis doesn't come thru that would really make it tempting for them to trade up. Maybe that phantom phone call between our GMs actually pays off! Lol! Anyways I think that if we did trade with them that we would get their 1st rd (#13), 2nd rd (#43) picks and next year's 4th rder, or something of that nature, for a fair compensation, IMHO.

Less than 2 weeks till the draft, your pick at #8

1. Dion Jordan 2. Ekekiel Ansah 3. Trade back Here's what I'd like to see in this order. -
I don't know what to make of it just yet but I think that there's something here that we should pay attention. I have never considered anything about Jackson's value, especially after the way he was iced last year but he could have a bigger impact on this team and draft than he's been given credit for. I did think about him the other day for a fleeting moment but then I dismissed it but the way Branch is speaking about him I think that there may be more to him than what one might think. I don't know or figured out if his value is tied directly to the production of the team this year or if it comes in a trade. What I do want to go on record as saying that I don't believe that him and Kolb are vying for the same position, instead I believe that we keep both and take a flyer on a mid round QB and see who steps forward between the 3 of them. I think that after the season one of the 2 veterans are gone and we take our franchise QB in next year's draft if this year's flyer doesn't win the job. Branch sounds pretty adamant about Jackson and his abilities, now I'm really wondering how Jackson truly fits in this year. Any ideas about this? http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/04/06/alan-branch-talks-up-tarvaris-jackson/

Thanks, that was very nice of you and I really appreciate your compliment, it feels good. Btw, your opinion is quite astute and once again thanks for sharing it. As the draft nears the more I, and I'm sure that many others, is getting excited. As I read all the media that is available I have come across TE Jay Stonebreaker. This is the TE that I am hoping that Buffalo drafts. Thru all the years and coaching staffs that have unfolded for Buffalo this is the position that has been ignored the most IMO. If this newest coaching staff makes it a priority this year than to me this would help signify a true changing of the guard and be a major difference in our past cultures. Here's hoping that this is a new successful era that is starting to birth for this long struggling franchise.

The only problem that I can see with what you are saying is that we don't have 3 or 4 WRs to spread the field.

I have to respectably disagree with the OP about drafting a RB this year and only because we have too few draft picks (only 6) available to us this year. Also in the last several years the RB position has been diminished due to more and more teams going to a RBBC backfield and that more than valid talent can be had in free agency, maybe not premiere starters but a good, solid compliment and/or back-up. Case in point, if I'm not mistaken, I don't think that in all the mock drafts out there this year I can't remember seeing a RB projected in the 1st rd this year. I will say that I do agree with the OP that we are not all set at the RB position as one would think. Fred is too old to pin too much stock in him. If he doesn't get injured this year I couldn't imagine him being too productive next year (2014). I believe that we do need to find his replacement sooner rather than later but just not in this draft. I wouldn't be too surprised that once the draft is over that we address it, whether it be a trade for a future draft pick or if there is a salary cap casualty that we take advantage of. In the case of a trade for one of our 2014 draft picks I would like to see Marrone utilize his New Orleans' connection and work out a deal/trade for back-up RB Chris Ivory. I like his skill set and believe that he would be a great compliment to CJ Spiller for years to come IMO.

I'm going to change up my draft prediction a bit, it seems like Warmack is slipping and at the #7 spot is probably too early for teams to take a G. 1. Luke Joeckel-Kansas City 2. Geno Smith-Jacksonville 3. Sharrif Floyd-Oakland 4. Star Lotulelei-Philadelphia 5. Eric Fisher-Detroit 6. See Milliner-Cleveland or some other team (Tampa?) trades up for him. 7. Lane Johnson-Arizona That leaves Dion Jordan or Ezekiel Ansah sliding to us. Although Jordan had surgery after the 2012 season to repair his torn labrum it allows him to slip a little in the draft. Even if I'm mistaken we should at least have a shot for Ansah and that will work also. In earlier reports OLB Jarvis Jones was in Buffalo for a visit and at this point he has to be considered to be a valid candidate for the #8 pick, especially that Buffalo missed out on Von Miller, this could make Jones all the more desirable for the Bills. I hope that this is not the case but I won't be too shocked if Jones is the newest Buffalo Bill. Out of these 3 this would be my order of preference. 1. Dion Jordan 2. Ezekiel Ansah 3. Jarvis Jones 4. Trade down not too far back (#13?) if possible

Jake Stoneburner - WR/TE - Ohio State
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He looks pretty good to me, I think that this is the guy for us. I hope that Buffalo locks him up and takes him in the 4th rd. -
As I mentioned in previous threads that when you look at current rosters from around the NFL there is a shortage of quality TEs, especially pass catching ones. After a handful there isn't much out there. Coupled with that is also Chandler's status and it has me anticipating that Buffalo will finally make this position a priority this year in the draft. Always the optimist with this team it's probably better for my psyche to temper my expectations and give up my hope of them drafting Zach Ertz this year and lower my expectations to the mid-late rounds for this position. I've mentioned WR Mike Shanahan, who is projected as a TE in the NFL, in another post but here is another prospect with a big upside that I would like the Bills to take a look at. Not only did he play for Urban Meyer but Meyer himself compared Stoneburner to New England's Aaron Hernandez and that sure peaked my interest. Either way hopefully Buffalo gets it right this year when they draft this position.

If they really wanted Nassib they would pick him with the #8 with or without Kolb. Do I want another CB? No, not really, it's not a sexy enough of a pick but for good, sound football I could accept and understand that pick. What I really hope for is either Dion Jordan or one of the premiere LTs with the #8 pick or a trade down so we can have extra picks in the draft. Unfortunately I don't believe Jordan falls to us and LT is probably not a priority for our front office so it's probably down to either Dee Milliner, Ezekiel Ansah or Star Lotulelei or a trade down. If that is the case my question is what would the fans want in that kind of a scenario?
-
Just wanted to give an update on Star Lotulelei's health condition. I don't think that we would consider another DT at the #8 spot but a team like Carolina might be tempted to move up. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/04/01/star-lotulelei-gets-positive-reports-from-recent-heart-test/ Any input on this situation is appreciated.
-
Here's the 3 players that I expect to be there when we pick. DE Ezekiel Ansah, CB Dee Milliner and DT Star Lotulelei. I listed them in my want/need order. If we get real lucky maybe Dion Jordan slides to us but I don't think so. If he did that's who I want Buffalo to take. Other than them 4 right there Buffalo would be better served to trade down IMO.

Quincy Black's career is done. I was at the game when him Ryan Matthews collided. The game was stopped for about 15 minutes. Add Kevin Boss to that list also, too many concussions and his career is hanging in the balance.
-
With all due respect but if this were to happen it would cost at least a 2nd rder in this year's draft and possibly a future pick (4th-6th rder?) in the 2014 draft. In which case I'd be all for, we could really address some needs (Patterson?).
-
I would not disagree with this thinking, especially about Jordan. Star and Jordan could very well be switched in my scenario in which case Ezekiel Ansah, possibly Milliner, would hold more value for us in my opinion. Either way it wouldn't be a hateful draft for us. Btw, I heard that Jordan is working out like he's a 5th rd pick. I'd love for the Bills to get him. Thanks for the input.
-
Wow, you gave me a lot to think about! I have to research more than half of the players but I definitely like the idea of a WR that's comparable to a Anquan Boldin, I always admire him and Hines Ward's style of play. Thanks for your input.

Just a few comments on things happening in the NFL..... First off I'd like to mention that it was really great to hear that Brian Banks was signed to the Falcons' roster today. What a great individual on and off the field, that's someone that I truly admire as a person. Speaking of Banks' ordeal I'd like to give a big shout out to Jay Glazer. I never really thought much of him but after what I read about him today I'm quickly changing my opinion of him. Once he heard about Banks and his circumstances he made it his business to personally help him get a second chance in life. Nice job Jay, you're quite a guy yourself. As the draft approaches teams are posturing more and more. The flavor of the week now is the few OL that are ranked towards the top of the draft. I sure hope that this benefits Buffalo in a big way and I think that it will. Miami in particular is rumored to be looking for Jake Long's replacement and they are picking at #12. That's a bit too late for them to have a shot at a quality starter so expect them to try and leapfrog a few teams to secure one of the big 3 OTs (Luke Joeckel, Eric Fisher and Lane Johnson). Here's a scenario that could very well play out. 1. Luke Joeckel-Kansas City 2. Geno Smith-Jacksonville 3. Sharrif Floyd-Oakland 4. Star Lotulelei-Philadelphia 5. Eric Fisher-Detroit 6. Cleveland trades down with Miami and they select Lane Johnson 7. Chance Warmack-Arizona That leaves Ezekiel Ansah, Dion Jordan, Dee Milliner and Cordarrelle Patterson for Buffalo to choose from. I'd be happy with any of the defensive players at #8 but would rather see Buffalo trade down before they chose Patterson this high. Someone said in an earlier post about FA WR Ramses Barden and I would definitely be on board for Buffalo to pick him up, he'd be a great compliment for Stevie. Speaking of Dion Jordan in an earlier news blurp the Patriots had him in for a draft visit. They have no shot at him unless of course they traded up. The only problem with this is they don't have enough picks to do it. So what's up with this? Is there someone that they are willing to trade? That's about the only way that they could get into a high enough position to draft Jordan.Who knows. I looked at the rosters of each team and outside of a handful of big names at the TE position there really isn't anyone that stands out. Buffalo is in dire need of TEs and in an earlier post I mocked us taking Zach Ertz in the 2nd rd. Well, I'd like to mention someone for in the later rounds if that weren't to happen. Pitt's WR Mike Shanahan would be a natural for a pass catching TE in my opinion. While I'm on the subject of later round draft prospects I'd like to mention Howie Long's kid Kyle for an OL. While he plays G as of now he is projected to be a LT. Either way the guy is huge, has a vicious punch and a flat out nasty demeanor. I'd love to see us have a bad ass OL with an attitude. Here's a link to a little of his background. Admittedly I don't know much about him or college players but I sure liked this article. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/shutdown-50-oregon-ol-kyle-long-173130290--nfl.html. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did. I'd like to post some more but I guess that this is long enough. I got blasted for that on my last post so I'm a little gun shy but I thought that I'd give it another shot.

I wonder what Jason Peters' teammates think of him.
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let's not play the "if" game. It's hard enough trying to figure out what this front office is up to let alone dragging hypothetical scenarios into the mix. All I said was at this point in time I'd rather have Wood over Peters. Who would you rather have? -
Absolutely. This is the type of Player that fits Buffalo's MO, low risk/low dollars. Throw in the fact that Rex and Rob Ryan run the same type of defense and you have a big upside to this kind of player. Git'er done!

I wonder what Jason Peters' teammates think of him.
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Keep in mind that there is a full 4 year difference between the 2, Peters turned 31 in January and Wood turned 27 last month. I would have to say that it's a lot harder for Peters to come back from an injury than it is for Wood. At this point in time I'd take Wood hands down vs Peters, the attitude is an extra bonus for us. Bye bye Peters, I hope the ankle holds up. -

Not that the point(s) that you made previously aren't valid, in which I deleted, but it's this point that I find very, very astute and I believe is the mentality of a good front office in the NFL. Is it safe to say that you are in management? While I believe that everyone who has posted on this thread has bought up a valid point or two it is this kind of thinking that is the reality of this business that is called the NFL. Remember, we here are the fans and view our team and the NFL passionately and emotionally while the business aspect of these kind of decisions are dealt with by businessmen. That's the reality of it, neither are right or wrong, it's just the structure that makes up this entity. When everything is all said and done I still don't care for Jason Peters and his attitude. While I don't wish him any ill will I also don't miss him. Btw, someone mentioned earlier about his house getting hit by lightning and burning down to the ground being karma (it's actually called reciprocity). That is more than likely to favor him, getting paid by insurance, not dealing with the dropped market in real estate etc etc. -

Wow, what a hit! Thanks for posting that. Btw, what's happening with Corey MacIntyre?
