I agree. They will pay for anyone they want to get. I think that they would like to get one of them early OL (Barron, Brown, or Barnes?) somewheres in the mid to late 1st rd. Maybe not. I do expect Buffalo to at least get into the early 2nd rd at the very worse.

I don't believe the Campbell pick, it's just a smokescreen. No matter what they do I don't think that they would of revealed it this early.

It doesn't. San Fran is in need of a WR so maybe WR Rod Gardner could be involved. One thing is for sure, something or one would be needed. I don't see Washington going this far and then backing off. We'll see soon enough.

It's been his MO since he's been running the Bills. There is no value in the early part of the 1st rd for him, he already stated that. Picking at #55 would be missing out on too much value also. I've made numerous posts and about 95% of them have been about the Bills moving up to the latter part of the 1st rd or to the early part of the 2nd rd. That's where the real value is in this draft. Anybody who thinks that Donahoe isn't going to find a way to get us in this area of the draft better think again. Do you doubt this?

I think the Raiders made an ingenius move(s). What did they really give up this year? A decent LB, the #7 pick and an inconsistent safety that they didn't want anymore. If you look at their current team you'll find that they got an offense that can score like an arena league team. They got the most frightening package of WRs, a hard running RB with a competent change of pace 3rd down RB, a strong O-line, and a variety of TEs. Al Davis might need muscle relaxers to keep himself calmed down. The secondary is good it's the front seven that needs an infusion. Well the ivs just arrived. Take a look at their draft picks and tell me if it just doesn't kill you to see this high octane offense get this kind of help in a defensive, backend loaded draft. 2nd rd-#38, #47 3rd rd-#69, #73 or #78 (depends on which 3rd rder Houston gave up) 4th rd-#105 6th rd-#182, #185, #212, #214 That is 9 freakin' draft picks! You think that this defense is going to get a nice shot in the arm? It wouldn't surprise me if they were to trade a couple of those last picks for one decent mid rder. How about the Broncos? They thought that they were making moves. Ha! They are about to get punished! I just hope all this fanagling inspires Donahoe to become real creative.

I'm sure that this whole pecking order in the draft is still going to change, but the way it stands now this new developement may benefit Buffalo. If Washington is going for Edwards, and that would make alot of sense, then San Fran would make a more lenient trade partner. They would have the #9 and #25 pick in the 1st rd and then follow up with the #33 pick in the 2nd rd. Who knows what Buffalo is looking for and how it can unfold, but one thing is for certain, you know that the Bills (TD) don't want to wait until pick #55 to make their first selection. What may be a more realistic goal to obtain would be San Fran's first pick in the 2nd rd. Not too costly and a nice position to pick from. What would it take to move into this slot? Well, there's been talk about the 49'ers wanting someone to challenge incumbent RB Kevan Barlow. Would Henry and the swapping of our 2nd rd pick suffice? Or does Buffalo want the #25 pick? I don't know, but if they did, would trading this year's and next year's 2nd rders be enough? If so, then Losman wouldn't have costed us a 1st rder, just two slots this year and next year's 2nd rder. This would be a good way to minimize the compensation for JP. This reason alone could be good enough to make this transaction. If we got real fortunate, we might be able to trade Henry to the Cardinals outright for their 2nd rder at #44. Wishful thinking, right? There are so many twists and turns that are yet to come, but if San Fran lands up with a low 1st rd pick then I think that will only help Buffalo to be able to move up in the draft.

I have to agree with you BuffaloRebound, there's got to be something in the works. Although this was shocking news I don't think anyone can determine if this was a good or a bad move. It is all going to depend on how they are going to use these picks and with what players. I'm afraid that you're right on the money nodnarb. Oh well, there is other TE/WR/slash players that we can get and for a lot lower of a draft pick too I might add. TCU's TE Cody McCarty is one suggestion that would only probably cost a 5th rd pick.

No, but maybe if we package Henry to philly with our pick at #55 we might be in a position to maybe trade a lower pick in next year's draft thus minimizing the lost of our lost of a 1st rd pick in this year's draft. I don't know, I haven't thought of all the possibilities or packages yet. This is definitely within reach though without dealing a major player like CB Nate Clements. I like the possibilities.

Is this why Buffalo had OT Jammaal Brown in for a visit? I wonder what the Broncos want in return. Early reports state that a 1st rder in next year's draft could be a possibility. Would this be a good move on the Bills part?

This is my prediction(s) for Saturday's draft. It will be based on what Buffalo thinks of LJ Shelton.

I'm not a complete moron. With their rotation, the Colts feel that Brock would be more effective as a DT. He's their best player and that's why he's their DE. They just don't have anybody or healthy enough at this time to insert at DE. As far as Edge going to Miami for Surtain, you have to keep in mind that Saban will dismantle this team at year's end. It is in their best interest to accumalate as many draft picks as they can so he can rebuild this team in the way that he wants. They are not looking to give up draft picks but instead looking to add draft picks. If they can't trade out of the #2 pick in the draft then expect them to select RB Ronnie Brown. Miami is quite a ways away from threatening for a Super Bowl, but the Colts aren't. They could use a seasoned veteran and keep him for only a couple of years. Their mentality differs greatly from Miami's. Throw in the fact that Dungy would be for getting Barber. He knows his capabilities. Barber knows his defense. Barber, like Lynch and Sapp, is a fan favorite. From a publicity point, recieving Edge in a trade for Barber, would help soften the blow. One last point. It would really help increase our opportunity and Henry's if RB Shaun Alexander is removed from any kind of equation. I would love, and still think, that Philly would be a good match for him. Once again, who would you rather have, Alexander or Henry? I know, I know, He's three times the money. But Philly can afford it if they choose so. Alexander can run AND catch. He might not be big on blocking, but he's a premier RB. Philly should be in a win now mentality also. One good thing is, even if Philly doesn't take Alexander I know who can't or won't. Arizona. Oh, I'm sure that they would love to have him but Seattle is not about to commit suicide. They won't trade with the Cardinals, that's for sure.

OMG! You're absolutely right JoeF. How embarrassing. I was at my daughter's when I posted that last response and realized my error. I'm talking to my buddy on the way home and told him what a fool I'm going to be and that I'm gonna get lambasted on the board and rightfully so! I appreciate your kindness JoeF, but now I destroyed the credibility of this post. What an idiot I am! Well, not all will be lost. One way to look at it is LJ would be our 2nd rd pick and I don't think Brown would last to our 3rd rd pick. I do want to see Buffalo select Swancutt but not at the expense of Brown. So here is what I'll propose. a) Trade Henry for Arizona's 2nd rd pick only, no Shelton or swapping involved. Then the above trade scenario then can work. OR b) Forget moving up and trading with the Colts. Keep the 2nd rd pick at #44 and take Jason Brown. With the 3rd rd pick stay on course and select Swancutt. With this scenario we dumped Travis and got something for him, a C and a LT. With Swancutt he gives us great depth and possibly another sackmaster. One thing he will provide and that's tenacity. If this were to unfolod in the draft I would think that this would still be a very successful draft for us. Sorry TSW for being so stupid!

Look, I think a bird in the hand is worth two in a bush. It would be great to make all these possible trades but let's keep it in perspective. How many wheeling and dealings really land up going on, especially in the draft? Take a look at last year with San Diego and the Giants. This deal was going on forever and a day. As bad as the Giants wanted Manning the Chargers had more desire to trade him. When the smoke cleared, the Giants almost didn't land up with him. Matter of fact, the Chargers had to pick Manning FIRST and THEN TRADE him. With no 1st rd pick in this year's draft I think we should just take the safer bet. Be satisfied with a mid 2nd rd pick for our disgruntled RB. If their is a targeted player that needs to be selected earlier in the 2nd rd or even late in the 1st rd, then maybe we could package a lower tier player on our roster. Looking at a feasible partner to make a trade with, I see the Colts as a team with needs. Their needs happen to reflect our strength-defense. Here is what I would like to see. a) Trade with Arizona for LJ Shelton and the swapping of the 2nd rders. b) Take the #44 pick that we just obtained from the Cardinals and package that with DE Ryan Denney to the Colts for their 1st rd pick (#29). c) With the #29 pick select Northwestern's DT Luis Castillo OR Wisconsin's Anttaj Hawthorne. If DT is not a priority for the Bills or Mularkey is enarmored with the slash player mentality, then select Arkansaw's WR/TE/QB/HB/Mr.Everything Matt Jones. d) With our original 2nd rder (#55) we then select North Carolina's C Jason Brown. c) In the 3rd rd (#86) we then select Oregon State's DE Bill Swancutt. Is this scenario unrealistic? Would this be a satisfying draft selection with our first three picks? If not, what three selections would suit our needs better?

I live in Fort Myers and it's about 2-2 and a half hours south of Tampa. I've been to only 2 or 3 Tampa games. I must admit, I felt much more comfortable at a game there than in Buffalo. I've been to every Buffalo play-off game except the "Greatest Comeback Game" and several regular games in and around that time. I love the Bills and I am very proud of the people and the area. But unfortunately I wouldn't recommend a Buffalo game as a family function. The fans get too drunk and they get carried away. I'm sorry but that's the truth. As far as Henry, yes he's a Florida boy and he could fit in but Edge is a whole different creature. I think Henry is from Frostproof, Florida and I'm not sure where that is in the state of Florida but Edge is from Immokalee, Florida (about 45 minutes from me). SW Florida is really starting to be a hotbed for athletic talent, mostly football, some baseball. In a 2-3 hour spread or 250 miles, you have talent like CB Dion Sanders, DE Jevon Kearse, RB Edge, CB Anthony Henry, FB Fred McCrary, PK Martin Gramatca and his brother Bill. I'm sure that I've missed several others. I hope that I helped with this information. Good luck at your game and remember, try to get decent seats, this might help to reduce the riffraff. As far as Edge costing three times as much, don't count on it. He wants out big time and wants to play in Florida badly. He may be more reasonable than one would think. PS Edge is supposed to be a real nice guy. A lot of people that I know either knows him or have met him (one buddy met him and spent the day jet skiing with him-on Edge's jet ski!) and they all say the same thing. He's cool and humble.

With all these swirling rumors going around, most of the Buffalo faithful (myself included) are getting caught up into it with too much glee. I stated before in an earlier post and I'll stick to it, I don't think Philly is a good match for Henry and that they are in hot pursuit. Oh, I know the newspapers printed it but keep in mind that the Eagles' front office HATES Modrak & Associates. Remember, what a year or two ago, when some of their scouts just exchanged pleasant salutations with the Bills' Modrak? Remember what happened next? They got booted almost immediately! Keep in mind, the Bills called Philly FIRST. They weren't chasing us, we were chasing THEM. Not a good way to negoiate. The Eagles reciprocated, and why wouldn't they? It's a great way to throw a spur under Brian Westbrook's saddle. Not all was lost for the Bills though. We got to see Rerun (Dennis Green) squirm. Tampa did jump into the mix too (I'll get back to them in a minute). All I got to say is proceed with caution friends. Now, as far as Tampa goes just let me ask you a question. Who would you rather have, Travis Henry or Edjerrin James? Just what I thought. I posted earlier that the Florida teams LOVE the Florida players. Well, I got caught up in the moment also and my eyes got filled with greed too. the stupid a$$ that I am, I should know better, I live down here! Tampa is smart for the simple reason that they're backing up a plan with another. The ideal picture for them is to take one of the WRs in the 1st rd and then trade for a veteran RB. I would think with the way their salary cap is that Travis would be the more lucrative RB for them. Remember, the talk with them was player for player. No draft picks were mentioned right? Now we got the TH sweepstakes going on and we think that we're going to get Tampa into a bidding war? I hardly think so, not with Edge available. A deal for him is, what a 2nd rder + something else? Who knows how this can be manipulated. They have two 3 rders though and a CB (Ronde Barber) to trade. This makes more sense for both teams. Edge is worth more than Henry and he's from Florida too. As far as Tampa goes, do you know how unpopular it would be to get rid of Barber? Trust me, extremely. What takes the sting out is Edge. He's pratically a home town boy! And you want to talk about flexibility? The Colts not only shed a huge contract, but they get a CB that fills a desparate need. Oh, you think Tony Dungy would be upset getting one of his old defensive stars back? This deal makes more sense if draft pick(s) are to be involved. Well, I don't mean to disappoint anybody, but I think when it's all over and done with if we can still trade with Arizona for LJ Shelton and the swapping of 2nd rd picks we better take it and run!

The Seattle Times reports that veteran CB Bobby Taylor future is in question and might become a cap casualty come June 1st. Could this be a condideration for the Bills? Troy Vincent and Taylor are very familiar with each other. Donahoe does seem to prefer veterans in the secondary. I'm not suggesting a possible replacement for Nate Clements but maybe for Terrence McGee. Keep Mcgee in the nickel package and ST only?

Thanks JoeF for the info, it's great to hear. I think I better rethink our 1st pick. Maybe it will be a CB afterall. Oh by the way, I really enjoyed reading your cleverness on draft scenarios and trades in a couple of different posts. Keep up the creativity. If not for nothing it makes for great reads and it's lots of fun!

WR Vincent Jackson may be a better value. He might still be available when we pick in the 3rd rd. I don't think drafting a WR early is needed. The only two reasons to draft a WR like Jones is because; a) The Mularkey theory on using slash player(s) b) Get a big, fast WR to replace Eric Moulds for down the road. After all the current trade rumors going on and where we are supposely going to end up (in the very early 2nd rd), I don't think that this pick will end up being used on Jones or a TE, WR, DE, and man I can't believe that I'm going to say it, an O-lineman. I fully expect Buffalo to be setting their sights on a DT or a CB. I think with their original 2nd rd (#55) you will see the Bills look at a C and maybe a LT or LB if ones that they coveted was to unexpectingly fall to them at this slot. WR and TE won't be address until at least the 3rd rd or later. If our LT isn't on our roster already, then taking a C will afford us versatility with Teague being able to man either position. The only way Buffalo selects a starting LT with our 1st pick is by trading up or into the first rd.

While there is nothing wrong with having friendly associates in this league, but would two different teams working in unison for each other's welfare be allowed? I would hope not. This little Belichick entourage has raised my suspicion a little the last couple of years. When they were going to the Super Bowls the last few years and more and more were being made about their coordinators, I sometimes wondered about a little friendly inside trading. Thank goodness Weiss went to the college ranks. I don't think I could handle him floating around somewheres in the league. This Crennel and Saban is enough. The one good thing I will say though, it's probably a good thing that they are all in the AFC. Maybe not at first but within due time Moe, Larry, and Curley should be bumping heads on the way to a common prize. Well back to the inspiration of this post. Apparently Cleveland's Crennel is interested in obtaining back-up QB Rohan Davey so he can compete with QB Trent Dilfer. This will be based on if New England is targeting a quarterback and that player falls to them in a round that they are comfortable with. Now, I wonder, does this seem a little too much an open book on a common goal? It seems to be very revealing, especially so early. I also wonder if they can ping pong with players and draft picks so they can aid and abet each other's goals. What I mean is that during the draft one team takes a player at a certain position or slot so that it could possibly alter the sequence of the following players. It's early but like I said, keep an eye on that Cleveland/New England duo. I just don't trust them.

I totally agree with you jahnyc. It's not even about his replacement. He's just a good, flat-out player. Why don't we just keep him? Teams want a great Cb, we got one. Add in the fact that this guy is even a great STer. What else would you want from a CB? He needs to stay a Bill. I don't care what the compensation is for him. I LOVE trades and speculating, but there's not a pick or player in this draft that would tempt me to trade Nate. I know I posted a speculation about him being involved in a trade but it wasn't my desire for him. It was a reflection on rumors that were being said. As far as Winfield is concern, I wasn't crazy about him being traded but the guy really didn't want to be here. I don't think this is the case with Nate. For the sake of just rooting for a player and a team, let's hope that Buffalo does the right thing and keep Nate in Bills country for a long time.
