Per KFFL Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports North Carolina State DT John McCargo may be moving himself into the first round of the NFL Draft, according to some draft experts. One coach even said that McCargo is a better player than his college teammates, DE Mario Williams and DE/LB Manny Lawson, even though he won't be drafted ahead of them. It would be very interesting if he doesn't go in the 1st rd. Could this be our 2n rd pick?

You know what, forget our needs.

Let me clarify one thing. The quality that I'm hoping for first and foremost is speed, speed, speed ,speed, speed, speed speed, speed, speed, speed, speed, speed, speed, speed, speed, speed, and oh, speed. You can't teach speed. If you have the fastest players then you coach the rest of the qualities. -
I, just many of you, have poured over this draft. Do we take Huff because he will be the safest, best available player that can fill a possible need for us? Or, how about Ngata vs Bunkley? Which one can be a better fit for our system? Should we draft TE Vernon Davis, a stud luxury pick? Oh, we better not do that! Please, please let Ferguson fall to us. Forget it. Forget all of it. How many times are we going to draft WRs, DTs, and DEs? We even took a shot at a QB in the 1st rd. When was the last time we did that? No, I want the best available athlete. Period. The cream will rise to the top. Isn't that what we want? We have drafted for need way too many times now. Where has that gotten us? Let the coaches coach, the players play and the competition compete. I'd much rather have a stud TE, who could play right away, than a pretty good DT. Wouldn't you want the best S vs a QB who might take a year or two to possibly be ready to play? We got PLENTY of quality picks at our disposal. Let's see if we got a decent scouting department. Our coach hasn't even coached a game for us yet. I think Jauron just might be for real. If he isn't, then I don't think that it will matter too much on who we pick. I have had enough of hoping for this guy or that guy. All I want now is quality and speed, forget this need crap. What we need is is a play-off game. I hope that this is more reader friendly. Now can we get back to the post and talk about some football? Thanks.

The whole draft can be a crapshoot but I think the 7th rd can provide you the opportunity to take a chance on a prospect(s) that could really pay a dividend. I don't think that it's out of the realm of reasoning of using these late rd picks on position changes with prospects. Here's two interesting prospects. Akron's WR Domenik Hixon. He would have a much better chance at succeeding as a SS than a WR. It's a position he played earlier in his career and it would be easier to catch on with defense than at a skilled position on offense. Gotta love his speed, need to utilize it. Check him out. http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingr...menikhixon.html Next up is Louisville's OT Travis Leffew. He has the makings at the G position with the right coaching. This would be the type of guy that McNally is known for making into a solid pro. http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingr...avisleffew.html There is nothing better than a longshot making it in professional sports. With our last two picks in the draft, I don't think that we would be risking too much on taking a chance on something that could really turn out special. Any thoughts on this concept?

I thought that we looked at the last 7 drafts to see what players were taken at our current draft pick numbers, we would either feel excited or disappointed. I realize that there's a very good chance of feeling both. Take a look for yourselves and tell me how you think we will do in this year's draft. 1999 #8-WR David Boston #42-TE Reggie Kelly #70-DE Jared DeVries #73-OLB Joey Porter #105-WR Brandon Stokley #134-RB Cecil Collins #143-T Jerry Wisne #178-CB Tyrone Bell #216-SS Anthony Poindexter #248-DE Bryce Fisher 2000 #8-WR Plaxico Burress #42-DT Cornelius Griffin #70-WR Chris Cole #73-WR Ron Dixon #105-OLB Brandon Short #134-CB Anthony Midget #143-WR Windrell Hayes #178-DE John Frank #216-DT Delbert Cowsette #248-G Lewis Kelly 2001 #8-WR David Terrell #42-OLB Tommy Polley #70-OLB Sedrick Hodge #73-OLB Eric Westmoreland #105-G Bill Ferrario #134-LB Jeremiah Pharms #143-SS Jarrod Cooper #178-FS Tony Driver #216-K Owen Pochman *There was no pick at #248. The draft ended at #246. 2002 #8-SS Roy Williams #42-DT Larry Tripplett #70-SS Willie Offord #73-OLB Will Witherspoon #105-CB Brian Williams #134-DE John Taylor #143-OLB Scott Fujita #178-T Matt Anderle #216-QB Seth Burford #248-T Kyle Kosier 2003 #8-T Jordan Gross #42-FS Ken Hamlin #70-MLB Gerald Hayes #73-T Wayne Hunter #105-RB Onterrio Smith #134-FB Ovie Mughelli #143-WR Justin Gage #178-CB B.J. Tucker #216-T Ben Johnson #248-DT Davern Williams 2004 #8-CB DeAngelo Hall #42-DE Travis LaBoy #70-CB Joey Thomas #73-CB Keith Smith #105-WR Samie Parker #134-WR Johnnie Morant #143-SS Erik Coleman #178-T Marko Cavka #216-WR Patrick Crayton #248-QB B.J. Symons 2005 #8-CB Antrel Rolle #42-OLB Kevin Burnett #70-MLB Channing Crowder #73-RB Vernand Morency #105-T Ray Willis #134-G Claude Terrell #143-G Junius Coston #178-DT Anthony Bryant #216-DT Kevin Vickerson #248-T Patrick Estes Well, there you have it. There has been good, solid early picks and there has been great value picks later in the draft. One thing is apparent, you can make a poor choice at any point of a draft. Good luck to the Bills this year in the draft and I hope that you find this an interesting read. Thanks.

Now that we gave Price & Gibson a 2nd chance...

Calm down guys, I was talking about recycled players. I said it was weak, just bad humor. -
Hey thanks Ozymandius, great clip! After listening to this guy he's the type of player that I would love to have on my team. What an animal. He got robbed on that play where he was tightroping after he fought off that tackle. The refs called it back and said he stepped out of bounds, I don't think he did. I'd be shocked if this kid doesn't bust up the NFL. I hope this kid has alot of success. I'd like to see him be utilize properly and get onto a team with the right system for him, even if it isn't Buffalo.

1) Grady Jackson failed his physical. 2) I'm a little comprehensive about OG Vince Manuwai, I don't want another Bennie Anderson. I was all for Anderson, but man he didn't turn out like I hoped he would. 3) DE Lance Johnstone? Hmm, that sounds pretty reasonable. I think that something along this nature should be explored. Nice suggestion.

Everett not being able to stay healthy may make Buffalo think about their order of preference. Does TE Vernon Davis become more of a realistic selection for us now?

Just a weak stab at some humor to break up the mood Mr. Cantankerous, that's all. I really don't think that it's a bad signing. -
Offer sheets must be signed by April 21st by RFAs.

Jackson failed his physical, who wants that fat tub of goo. No more old guys, we were doing so good with the youth movement and now we sign a one eyed WR who is starting to get up there in age. Give me the draft! -

Well, Oakland just re-signed Sands today. Looks like we are down to two valid options. It seems that teams are making a push on re-signing their own players this week. If we don't make a move by Friday, then you can expect us to look towards the draft and the June 1st cuts to round out this year's roster. -

Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Instead of giving Price a chance, it sounds more like "The Price is Right". You know if we hurry up, we might be able to sign S Victor Green before he retires with the Jets. We do need a safety. Oh wait, I almost forgot, we got Troy Vincent! -
George Allen Lives! The Over The Hill Gang rides again. We now can officially scrap "Shout" as the team's fight song and replace it with "I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream"! Hey, we even recycled our old coach and relabeled him as GM. There has been one constant though. Ralph. If we recylce him, we better just call him Moses.

Yeah, well we need MooreTackles. -
I agree about Vernon Davis. I'd be happy with him or Huff. Here is some interesting prospects. The rds that I'd take them in should be realistic. In the 2nd and 3rd rds ILB Abdul Hodge and Notre Dame TE Anthony Fasano. In the 4th and 5th rds, I like Northwestern's DT Barry Cofield, Boston College CB Will Blackmon and Georgia S Greg Blue. With our last two picks in the 7th rd we should be able to select Michigan OG Matt Lentz (McNally likes like rd projects) and Grambling State DE Jason Hatcher. In the 2nd-5th rds I like these prospects, but I'm not suggesting to use all of our picks in the targeted rds on them, but only to consider them in these rds. I would like to take the last two prospects if they are available in the 7th rd. Here's some player bios. http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingr...abdulhodge.html http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingr...honyfasano.html http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingr...rrycofield.html http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingr...llblackmon.html http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingr...s/gregblue.html http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingr.../mattlentz.html http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingr...sonhatcher.html

Thanks Pyrate, I didn't realize that. Tendering an offer to Sands was only a suggestion if he were deemed a valid prospect. We do have another 7th rd pick, if that were the case, that we could use. I think Moorehead is the one that we could really use though. -
Do you think that Buffalo will make an offer to any RFAs? With the success that they have had so far, I would think that if they do they would make a move this week. If so, who would you suggest? Here's is a couple of choices. Carolina's DT Kindal Moorehead. He's tendered for a 5th rder. He may be expendable, they signed UFA DT Maake Kemoeatu from Baltimore on March 13. Here's a link, check out his bio. http://www.panthers.com/team/teamRosterDetails.jsp?id=5825 Baltimore's DT Aubray Franklin. He was drafted by Baltimore in the 2003 draft in the 5th rd (#146). He's tendered for a 5th rder. We would probably not be able to sign him unless we used a major "poison pill". With them losing Kemoeatu, Franklin is slated to be the starter. It's time to take off the gloves and not fight nice anymore. Here's his bio. http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/teamRo...ails.jsp?id=204 Oakland's DT Terdell Sands. He's tendered for a 7th rder. Here we could give up our compensatory pick (#248). Here's his bio. http://www.raiders.com/team/teamRosterDetails.jsp?id=9486 I listed three choices and that's my order of preference. Of course I'm not suggesting that we use both of our 5th rders on DTs, only if we can't obtain Moorehead then I would tender an offer for Franklin. If we were able to get either of my first two suggestions I would still consider using our 7th on Sands.

Our draft picks don't have a very good shelf life.
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oh my gosh, it looks like I have some explaining to do. First off if you noticed what time I posted then you'll understand why there wasn't alot of personal elaboration. Most of the post was just reviewing the past seven drafts. The Jake Reed instead of Josh Reed was just an oversight. *See above delirious explaination. I wasn't stating that TD was responsible for all seven drafts, although I do understand that it does appear that way. My bad. As far as ANYBODY thinking that we haven't done too shabby with our draft picks, well the thing that I got to say about that is, what in the world do you consider shabby?!!! Oh, we have drafted some good players but where are they? The title of the post was "OUR DRAFT PICKS DON'T HAVE A VERY GOOD SHELF LIFE". There wasn't anything mentioned about the quality of players other than what's left is mostly back-ups. Did I misrepresent? I do stand by what I said about TD. He is more of a wheeler and dealer than having a good eye for talent. The other reference I made about TD making everybody vanilla is probably the truest thing on this whole darn thread. He REFUSED to retain any of our higher quality talent, he would just let them go. One other thing, nobody, and I mean NOBODY, should ever credit him with being such a "cap master". Anybody on this board could have gone in and gut a team like he did and start fresh. While he may have stayed under the cap after that, he did it with VERY prudent ways. BIG DEAL! How many YOUNG talent did he underpay so he could overpay SOME seasoned FAs? Everybody realizes that for an organization to be successful you have to build through the draft AND retain your draftees. This we never did until the last couple of years and that's because it's still too early to come to a full evaluation on these players. This post was never meant to bash TD but I don't want to hear how great he is/was. Our teams BLEW under his tenure, that's the bottomline. Why don't some of you fans get with it. ALL we ever hear from the owners, players and coaches is that "it's a business". Yeah, they're right, but we are the paying customer and it's been long OVERDUE for us to see a good, competitive product on the field. If anyone thinks that having a total of 6 true starters from 7 drafts is not that bad of a job, then I'm just wasting mine and your time. -

Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think that we can do any worse, or at least I hope we don't. I think Donahoe equalized players/personnel too much. It seemed like he made everybody too vanilla. Intensity, I hope that that's a criteria when we make our selections. I what I wouldn't do to have a Talley/Tasker/Bebee type player(s) on this team again. -
When you review our drafts from 1999 to present day, it's alarming to realize what our success ratio is. The players that are still on the current roster is mostly back-ups. Donahoe may have been a wheeler and dealer come draft day but he didn't have the greatest eye for selecting quality starters. I only count six, that's right SIX!, players that have been true starters for us up to this point. That's in SEVEN drafts! Here's a look back at these drafts. 1999-9 picks-0 players remaining from this draft. We had an additional 4th and 7th rd picks. 2000-8 picks-0 players remaining, additional 7th rd pick. 2001-12 picks-2 remaining players. 1st rd pick #21 overall CB Nate Clements and 2nd rd pick #46 DE Aaron Schobel. We had additional picks of 2nd rd, 3rd rd, two 6th rd, a 7th rd. 2002-10 picks-4 remaining players. 2nd rd pick #36 WR Jake Reed, 2nd rd pick #61 DE Ryan Denney, 3rd rd pick #97 SS Coy Wire, and 6th rd pick #187 CB Kevin Thomas. We had additional pick in the 2nd rd and three in the 7th rd. We did not have a 4th rd pick in this draft. 2003-8 picks-7 remaining players. 1st rd pick #23 RB Willis McGahee, 2nd rd pick #48 DE Chris Kelsay, 3rd rd pick #94 LB Angelo Crowell, 4th rd pick #111 CB Terrence McGee, 4th rd pick #127 WR Sam Aiken, 6th rd pick #187 DT Lauvele Sape and 7th rd pick #228 LB Mario Haggen. The only pick who is no longer on the roster is OG Ben Sobieski. The last time I heard he was on San Fran's practice squad. We had an additional 4th rd pick in this draft. 2004-6 picks-6 remaining players. 1st rd pick #13 WR Lee Evans, 1st rd pick #22 QB JP Losman, 3rd rd pick #74 DT Tim Anderson, 4th rd pick #109 TE Tim Euhus, 7th rd pick #207 OT Dylan McFarland, and 7th rd pick #214 WR Jonathan Smith. We had an additional pick in the 1st rd and 7th rd. We also had no picks in the 2nd rd, 5th rd or in the 6th rd. 2005-6 picks-6 remaining players. 2nd rd pick #55 WR Roscoe Parrish, 3rd rd pick #86 TE Kevin Everett, 4th rd pick #122 OL Raymond Preston, 5th rd pick #156 CB Eric King, 6th rd pick #197 OL Justin Geisinger, and 7th rd pick #236 RB Lionel Gates. We had no 1st rd pick in this draft due to us trading it to Dallas for JP Losman. How disturbing is this? This is where we need Marv & Co. to really make a difference. If they can do a better job of drafting players who not only will be starters but to also be able to hang on to them. I don't know what the current status of our scouts are but I do remember that Donahoe replaced alot, if not all, of our longstanding senior scouts. Scouts who were with us for years with a proven track record. Hopefully Marv went back and retained some of them. We do have a pretty good nucleus built right now. We have pretty good depth in some positions but what we are really lacking is STARTERS in some key positions. If Marv can utilize this draft with the quality of picks that we have with some frontline ready players, then we could possibly have not only a huge but also a rapid turn around in our upcoming season(s).

We drafted Haggan in the 7th rd in the 2003 draft. He was pick #228 overall. If you want a big WR then we should jump on Randy Hymes, he's a huge red zone target.

The Vikings are sheduling a visit with QB Cutler.
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The New York Jets are scheduled to meet with Cutler in Nashville on April 16, and he is scheduled to visit the Detroit Lions, St. Louis Rams and Minnesota Vikings in the coming weeks. The Rams could also be an interesting partner. Bob in STL, do you live in St.Louis? If so, then maybe you could shed some light on their thinking. They have the #11 pick in the first rd and the #77 pick in the 3rd rd. On the value chart that's 1250 and 205 in points. Our #8 pick is worth 1400 points. They also have three 7th rd picks, two being compensatory picks. Would their 1st, 3rd and one of their 7th rd picks make a good deal? We would only have to slide down three picks in the first and if you want a DT, Bunkley may still be available. Would the Rams be a better partner for us?
