I always have and always will. I have to say that surprisely, I have renewed dedication on the developements of this organization. In the times of the big dollar athlete I still cling to the old fashion values of character, passion of the game and team pride. I believe that Marv Levy and Coach Jauron also believe in this and are striving to bring this to my favorite team. Reguardless if their decisions and selections are right or wrong, these are the qualities that they are constructing this team with. I'm not trying to bash anyone but with the recently deposed administration I never felt that this organization was being ran in this fashion. Oh, I admit that my opinion is only based on what the media allows me to know but the results from seasons past reinforces my convictions. Lack of team chemistry, highly disgruntled players (past and present) and no clear team direction only solidify my worries. I don't expect any of the players that we release in the future will be bitter like the players we released in the last few years. I could be wrong but I don't think I will be. Why? Because that's just not Marv & Co.'s make-up. They have integrity. Players like and respect Jauron. They want to play for him, just like our players in the early 90's did for Marv. They treat players like men and when you are are treated like men you act like men. It's a good feeling and a breath of fresh air to be associated with an organization that not only professes character and integrity but to exemplify it. It's too new to state it as fact but give it time, it will happen. The ship has been righted. This team is being made over with youth, speed, character and passion. Wow! Isn't that exciting? I don't believe that we have had too much of these qualities individually let alone collectively. We may not be a great threat this year, but you know what, I bet we surprise some people this year. In 2007 I think that we may even be a very legitimate threat in the post season. I can wait, I have no choice. The difference is I think that we are going to be a very solid team for some time. So when everyone wants to laugh and ridicule us for last season and our off season and draft, let 'em, it will only make the rewards and the sense of pride even sweeter.

No DT's taken Rd #2 and only 2 in Rd #3
Tipster19 replied to Shamrock's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great observation Shamrock. This puts the trade up in a better perspective. I applaud the guts to head off other teams from being able to draft what was a much needed player for us. I rather have quality players than quanity. -
If the Jets trade with the Saints, should Buffalo
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would be quite content if we were to stay put and selected Huff. No qualms here but people at the same time are talking about trading up into the latter part of the 1st rd. Why? Why still be willing to trade up for lesser talent? If we were to trade up in this draft then let's trade up for a blue chipper if the opportunity presents itself. Otherwise we should stay put or even trade down and accumalate more picks. This I could understand. Trading up for D'Brick, a stud OT that we could truly need, would be the only scenario that I think that would be worthy of trading up for. -
If the Jets trade with the Saints, should Buffalo
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're right about this board being unreal. A simple suggestion on trading up for a BLUE CHIP OT and I'm being accused of being high? The majority of this board has been crying since LAST year for a true starting OT and now one can't even be considered? How many OTs in this draft can start this year? Let us just keep on filling up the bench so we can still have something to cry about this season. -
If the Jets traded with the Saints and New Orleans then have the #4 pick then should Buffalo take a stab at trading their #8 and #42 picks to the Saints to obtain OT Ferguson? On the value chart the #4 pick is worth 1800 points while the #8 pick is 1400 points and the #42 pick is worth 480 points. That's an 80 point swing in the Saints favor. In addition to being compensated from the Jets, the Saints would still have apretty high 1st rder from the Bills and have multiple 1st day picks from us and the Jets. This would be pretty tempting for us to move up. Would this be a good move for us or should we just stay put or even trade down?

Is it safe to say that the Bills will use all
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I respect your opinion Brandon and I appreciate your response but I would be disappointed if we do draft a WR on the first day. As far as a TE, I could understand this in the 3rd rd if the Bills saw a good value but I do think that there would still be a valid TE that we could use in the 4th rd just as easily. What I do want more than anything would be that we draft players that would contribute and form a strong team unity concept. I believe that this is an important factor for Marv and Jauron and they will have some level of success in assembling these type of players. -
This would seem to make the most sense. We have a pretty good nucleus on defense but there is some age/injury at certain positions. This is the first aspect to win ball games and we do need some more O-Linemen who could help contribute to us controlling the clock more on offense. Our QBs should be adequate enough and we have more than suitable skilled position players with the WRs and our RB. We may need another RB who could more than just give MaGahee a rest but I do believe that this could be a 2nd day pick. This could hold true for the TE position as well. I'd be more than a little surprised if we deviate from this type of selection come Saturday.

The Bears connection is in full swing
Tipster19 replied to ganesh's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IF this were to be true, could coupling the #8 and #26 picks be a more inexpensive way to move up to the #2 pick overall? Ooh, Saturday can't come soon enough! -
With numerous needs to address and a deep draft at the DB and LB positions, it makes the most sense for the Bills to trade down and accumalate more 2nd and 3rd rders. Although OT Ferguson being the only one worthy of being drafted at the #8 position, he won't be available when we select. Marv & Co. do realize that the O-Line does need to be address but they feel that there is value in the 2nd and 3rd rds. Outside of Vernon Davis, TE won't be thought of until these rds. A DT will be our first selection but not at the #8 pick. Based on who we trade down with will determine which DT we select, Ngata or Bunkley. With extra 2nd and 3rd rders, I fully expect that we take multiple O-Linemen, a LB and a DB. We already have three selections in these rds and I think that after we trade down in the 1st rd that we accumalate at LEAST two more picks in these rds. That fills an awful lot of need. Here's an article that may shed a little insight on the Bills' thinking. http://www.democratandchronicle.com/apps/p.../604260340/1021

*EDIT* WITH THE DRAFT 13 HOURS AWAY......
Tipster19 replied to sven233's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OK, I'll take a shot. 1. Jets, they trade their #4, #29 picks and their 2nd rder (#35) for RB Reggie Bush. 2. Oakland, they trade their #7 pick and their 2nd rder (#38) and WR Jerry Porter for QB Matt Leinart. 3. Tennessee picks QB Vince Young. 4. Houston picks DE Mario Williams. 5. Green Bay picks OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson. 6. Arizona, they trade their #10 pick and their 3rd rder (#72) and next year's 4th rder for QB Jay Cutler. 7. New Orleans picks LB A.J. Hawk. 8. Buffalo picks TE Vernon Davis. 9. Detroit picks S Michael Huff. 10. San Fran picks WR Chad Jackson. -
There was some disappointment when Marv and Jauron were hired but when you think about it, isn't it nice to have REAL football personnel running our team? I can't think of too many, if any, people who are currently in the league that have more NFL football knowledge and experience than Marv. Although he's in a new capacity, I don't think it's that big of a transition as you would first think. The GM may have a big input or even the final say but he's not the only one that does all the scouting. Facts are accumalated and reviewed. There is a board of personnel that have input and opinions. From scouts to coaches, and yes, to Mr. Wilson. Marv IS logical and sensible. That is known qualities of his. These are much needed at this time for our organization. As far as Jauron goes, he's a solid football coach. Period. If you think about Donahoe and Mularkey they were a white shirt and a inexperienced head coach. Our results reflected this. I think it will be a nice change of pace to have our football team ran by football guys and not by a corporate control freak and a meathead. Just my opinion. The Bills are currently 10.7 million under the salary cap. We have plenty of money for our draft picks AND to continue to make moves with FAs/June 1st cuts. We're in great shape, we just need to make the selections during the draft and have A QB step forward. I really do look forward to this season with renewed interest. Apparently the Packers could be looking to trade down to aquire more draft picks. If they do this should benefit us. One would have to think that the team that trades with them would be to obtain a QB. That should allow another player of need for us to slip to us. We could use a LB, DT, S/CB and a TE. If we were to get the best player at any of these positions then I would be happy. All one could ask for in a draft is to get a great player, right? Well, we should be guaranteed one. From KFFL reguarding the Packers. Bob McGinn, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports the Green Bay Packers may look to acquire more picks in next week's NFL Draft. In five drafts for the Seattle Seahawks and one for the Packers, general manager Ted Thompson has traded down eight times and never traded up. He entered the 2005 draft with seven picks and finished with 11. Given the laundry list of voids on the roster, look for the Packers to turn their seven picks into a double-digit total once again. "They need a corner, they need a safety, they need two linebackers, they need a defensive end, they need two inside offensive linemen, they need a running back, a No.1 wide receiver and, really, the jury's out at quarterback," a personnel director said Friday. "They don't have a kicker and they don't have a punter. Good luck. How many picks do they have?" The scout said the Packers' depth chart had the makings of a 3-13 team.

Hey, thanks for the input Ozymandius. I looked up Meyer and he's a pretty interesting prospect. It wouldn't hurt to take a chance on a QB in the later rds. Insurance for down the road.

So much talk lately on how many 1st rd QBs don't pan out like they were expected. Names like Montana and Brady come to mind when you think about mid to late rd QBs who have made it big. I was wondering if there is any interesting late rd sleepers. I'll throw a name out there that could be worth a look in the 6th or 7th rd. If anyone has any additional information or knowledge about him it would be appreciated. http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingr...aulpinegar.html

This draft is a joke! How in the world can you overlook the potential #1 pick overall? By George, Bush is a defensive genius! He'll have offenses so confused, and himself, that we will feel good about ourselves when it's all over. This is such an obvious pick, especially when we're so soft up the middle.

What the Denver/San Francisco Trade Means
Tipster19 replied to marck's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If there is any kind of truth from this report from KFFL, then it would change the complexion with Denver and Green Bay. Jets | V. Davis entering the picture Thu, 20 Apr 2006 06:29:33 -0700 Bob Glauber and Ken Berger, of Newsday, report there is increased speculation in league circles that the New York Jets are giving serious consideration to drafting Maryland TE Vernon Davis, whom some scouts consider one of the best talents at his position in years. The 6-3, 254-pound Davis has been on the rise on draft boards all spring because of his athleticism, 4.4 speed in the 40-yard dash and ability to stretch the field. Last season at Maryland, Davis had 51 catches for 871 yards and six touchdowns. -
I fully expect San Fran to trade the #6 pick overall now that they secured a 1st rd pick from Denver. Owner John York is a cheapskate and hates to pay big $$$ to such early round selections. He agonized last year when it was time to cough up the ducketts to QB Alex Smith. Do you really think that he wants to pay 6th pick bucks to a TE? No, there need is in the secondary, linebackers, and yes, some offensive weapons. There is a good amount of quality DBs and LBs in this draft and while the TEs that are available in the 2nd and 3rd rds are not Vernon Davis' caliber, they are more than serviceable and come at a good value. Look for the 49'ers to trade back and recoup their 2nd and 3rd rd picks with even better picks and save money as they do it. Could Minnesota be on the prowl? If not, you get the picture. Players who could help fill their needs that would be available in the mid to late 1st rd and at a decent level in the 2nd rd would be good value players. Mid 1st to early 2nd rd players. LB Chad Greenway WR Chad Jackson WR Santonio Holmes LB Bobby Carpenter LB Ernie Sims CB Tye Hill TE Marcedes Lewis S Darnell Bing TE Leonard Pope There is still alot more to mention but these players could all be solid selections for San Fran. Denver was supposed to be the favorite to try and move up for Davis but now they just weaken their clout to get in such a position to draft him. This leads me to believe that whatever team were to trade for San Fran's #6 pick would be to get one of the highly touted QBs. That would leave Oakland at #7 and I don't see them taking a TE. I think that if we stay with our pick we could select either Davis or S Michael Huff and they would be a good solid pick for us. Would this be satisfactory for our value?
-
I wonder if this means that San Fran will be looking to trade out the #6 pick now that they would still be in the 1st rd.
-
Not that it would be impossible for the Texans to trade but I don't think that they will. The only realistic trade out with them would be if the Titans don't want to chance losing out on Leinart. New Orleans. This is a team that is probably more willing to trade down than to stay put. If they were to trade down, it's hard to predict if it's only a couple of slots or if they would be willing to slide way down for some choice mega picks in this year's draft. The mega picks I'm referring to would be Denver (with the two 1st rders) or Minnesota (who has the 17th pick and two nice 2nd rders). Of course with Denver or Minnesota I'm sure that other compensation would have to be added. Tennesee. Hmm, I do believe that they stay put other than the trade up with Houston. N.Y Jets. Earlier reports had them trading up for Leinart. I don't believe it. IF they really want or need a QB, there will be a quality prospect at their allotted slot. What, to me, that would be very sensible would be D'Brickashaw Ferguson. They could stand to use more help on their O-Line and with the QBs that they now currently have on the roster, they would be smart to be able to utilize them instead of having 3 QBs in an eventual QB controversy. Green Bay. Wow, who really knows what they'll be capable of. If they stay put then I think that DE, LB and OT would be needs that should be addressed. TE and DT is not a concern and with QB, I don't know, is Brett Farve and Aaron Rodgers the solution? San Fran. Here's a pick that I think will have the most effect on what Buffalo does. If they stay with the #6 pick then of course it's TE Vernon Davis if the previous prospects are selected like they should be. I do believe that they will be more than happy to get out of this selection and trade down. They have a cheapskate owner who will probably puke having to pay another high draft selection prospect. I do expect a trade down here with another team wanting one of the big 3 QBs. Minnesota? Oakland. Who knows what this Al Davis will do, he's a maniac. If Young or Cutler is here, then I look for him to take one of them. As an alternative they could really use a DT. It won't shock me if this is where Ngata goes. It would make alot of sense at this number of pick. There is still an underlying chance that Oakland trades up for Leinart. I'll state now that this is purely my own speculation but he's a California boy and he would be great for the gate. In addition the kid can play and he would be the long term QB for this franchise. If they don't make a move now then it's back to the FA pile for their future QB. I don't believe in Aaron Brooks and I don't think the Raiders are all that sold either, otherwise why the incentive filled contract? Buffalo. Ah, the whole reason of this post. I don't know that we draft Ferguson even if he's available. I think McNally has more input with this administration and he's more of a believer in taking later rd OL and developing them. There is still plenty of quality O-Line help available in the 2nd and 3rd rd also. Our O-Line isn't in such a shambles as people profess. The closer we get to the draft the more a DT makes sense. Be it Ngata or Bunkley, that's for the staff to decide on who fits better in our system. I suppose S Michael Huff could be a great addition but I think that his stock just took a hit if I'm not mistaken. We also have a pretty darn good secondary right now. This draft also offers secondary help in the second and third rounds. I really would like to see CB Nate Clements situation resolved. I would be satisfied if Huff were to be our selection. Who I think that we really want and need though is TE Vernon Davis. It's the era of these high octane TEs and I think that Marv wants and will adjust to the times. He does come from KC/Washington roots where the TE position is not foreign or radical to him. I believe that he can make the adjustment. What might be even more important is our receiving corp. I think that we are doing a fine job, especially in light of the Moulds situation. I'd rather that he stayed but it was evident that it was time for him to go. With the situation of our QBs, O-Line and WRs, a big time pass catching TE would add such a big dimension to our offense. It's unfortunate what has happen to Everett but, at this point, we really can't count on him. Of course what remains still a very distint possibility is for us to trade down. I have no problem with this scenario but we better be paid handsomely, otherwise let's take put and take the very best TE or the top DT. Hopefully, we won't have to pick this high in the draft again for a very long time. Bottom line, I hope Buffalo makes an intelligent selection on the best available who becomes a mainstay for us for a very, very long time. Good luck to the Bills in the upcoming draft and season. I also wish all the Buffalo faithful an exciting draft. Go Bills!

After reading this article, I'm convinced that this is Marv's type of player/person. I won't be surprised or disappointed if we select him with the #8 pick overall.
-
If we stay at our current picks I do believe that these selections are reasonable and realistic. 1st rd/#8-Texas Safety Michael Huff. For many reasons. Best avail and a prominent need. 2nd rd/#42-Iowa ILB Abdul Hodge. London Fletcher's eventual successor. 3rd rd/#70-Texas OT Jonathan Scott. Worthy at this selection and our future permanent OT with McNally teaching the finer points of his position. 3rd rd/#73-Pittsburgh OG Charles Spencer. Same as Scott, the previous pick. With Peters, Scott and Spencer we will be formidable for years to come. 4th rd/#105-Northwestern DT Barry Cofield. We might be too late for this selection. A great value and a better fit for our current defensive scheme. A great compliment to Tripplett. 5th rd/#134-Oklahoma WR Travis Wilson. A huge WR with great intangibles. a very fair value at this selection. 5th rd/#143-Tulsa FB Garrett Mills. Fbs don't get drafted much sooner than the mid rds. He's rated one of the best, if not the best, FB in the draft. He replaces Shelton in 2007. 6th rd/#178-Arizona RB Mike Bell. Even if we do sign RB Jonathan Wells, this could be a nice back-up to MaGahee. 7th rd/#216-Akron WR Domenik Hixon. Here is where we convert a prospect's position to safety. I don't know what will happen with CB Nate Clements but with Huff being versatile, maybe Hixon could be our future SS. This is a gamble but this could land up paying a big dividend. 7th rd/#248-Louisville OT Travis Leffew. Another position but not as big. Shift him to the G position. Alot of upside, definitely a McNally project. Any adds, changes or suggestions are welcomed.

You goot look a player in the eye and then choose
Tipster19 replied to Pyrite Gal's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that, when all things seem equal, looking into the eyes of a player has some sort of impact but only to a certain degree. What would seem to be more of a difference maker would be to research what type of person they are. Variables like character, committment, and just an overall evaluation of them. I think that these qualities would have more of a bearing on a decision with Marv than maybe most of the GMs/staff in the league. Marv has made no bones about how much these qualities come into play for him. With all the jokes and critizisms he has recieved concerning his age, I think that his age really verifies his sincerity. I mean it's not like he's a young ambitious GM who is more concern of living on the edge and making a name for himself. To use as a comparision, Jimmy Johnson when he got into the league. He never was too concern what his players were like personally, he just wanted the fastest athletes. I'm sure that Marv still would like the fastest qualified prospects but I do believe that his standards also play a major part in his decision making. I do admire a man of principle and I believe that you still can be successful while holding onto your values. I'll go on record now and state without hesitation that no matter what happens this year in our success ratio, I am and will be proud of the administration and staff that we aquired. -
DT McCargo moving into the 1st round?
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks for such a prompt reply. The information that you provided doesn't seem too favorable, but these draft reports always give great reviews on the strengths and then they follow it up with almost a complete contradiction on the weaknesses. I never can get an accurate vibe when I read these things. By your report, I wouldn't be too interested in him. I never feel confident in a player that has had a big injury, especially when it has been pretty recent. I suppose our doctors would have to be the deciding factor in these types of situations. They seemed to be right on the money with MaGahee. Here's a link to another preview report on McCargo. It's seems to be a bit more favorable. The one constant is the injury though. http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingr...ohnmccargo.html
