RB Ahman Green cancelled his visit to Oakland.
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm glad that the Texans are out of the way for a RB. They're before us in the draft and in case we want to move up, it won't cost us as much. We are in pretty good shape with this whole RB thing. Anyone who wants to trade up, like Green Bay, the cost will be quite large. This almost should help Mcgahee's stock. -

Forget it, I just went back to the Red Zone and it says he already signed. -

The Raiders failed to tender DT Anttaj Hawthorne.

I was only using him as an example, not a reccommendation. There is going to be plenty of players available still for replacements. Who knows what is still available for options with the RFAs. I do believe Marv has a definite plan on how he wants to build this team and that he's still far from being finished. This should still prove to be a exciting week coming up. Stay tuned. -
Denver traded Tatum Bell with only having two Rbs on their roster, Mike Bell and Cedric Cobb. Mike Bell was a rookie last year and seemed to wear down by year's end. Cedric Cobb had a whopping 3 carries for 9 yards. That's pretty gutsy. If no one steps up in a trade offer for Willis, then we don't have to trade him. That's not a bad situation to be in but if we do get a fair offer then expect McGahee to be traded. They are talking to A-Train on a new contract as we speak. While Thomas may not be the answer as a every down back he is effective in a shared role. Detroit is rumored to be entertaining offers for Tatum Bell. Would a 4th rd pick be fair compensation? Although the Bills don't have a 5th rd pick, they could afford a 4th rder and be looking for a 2nd or possibly even a early 3rd rd pick for McGahee. Having our 1st, 2nd and 3rd rder intact, the trade compensation for McGahee, and acquiring Tatum Bell with our 4th rder would leave us in good shape to still address our other needs and still select a RB of the future in the 1st or 2nd rd if we so desire. http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20070304/2060791.asp

It seems that the of posts lately are centered on trading/not trading McGahee, the 3 glaring needs that we still have and what positions that should be addressed first in the draft. With more and more players that will become available, I believe our needs will be met before the draft even starts. This will put us in position to select best player available, the way it should be. Would that be acceptable for EVERYONE?

There is no way that Marv is willing to part with McGahee
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's been openly dissatisfied about releasing Milloy, Fletcher and others. It's not his decisions. He's a player, so he should just play. The Bills paid him to play, and quite well too, not to be a GM. -

Travis Henry has had discussions with the Packers, Texans and Raiders so far with a impending meeting with the Broncos. Keep an eye on both the Raiders and Texans, both of course pick before us in the draft. This seems to indicate that the Raiders may indeed make a move with Lamont Jordan afterall. If the Texans fail to sign Henry, or any other RB for that matter, then they should be in the market for one in the 1st rd. If the Raiders secure one they just might be a good trade partner afterall. -

People want to question our needs like tomorrow is our opener. We drafted McCargo in the 1st rd, can't we see if he's a bust before we announce that we still need help at the DT position? Furthermore, it wouldn't shock me if we were to sign someone like Cato June in the near future. I think that people are panicking a little prematurely about our needs. Let's see what happens before we think that we still have gaping holes to fill. Marv has done nothing to doubt him so far. -

Keep in mind that there is still alot of time in free agency, roster cut downs, trade deadlines and the draft to still address some of our current needs. I'm expecting the DT, LB, and CB to be greatly minimized by the time the draft rolls around. Two out of these three positions may even all together resolved by draft time. I've asked in another thread about RFAs and if there is someone that can help us but didn't get a response. I believe that this is an avenue that will bear results for us. -

Oops! Sorry dude, I can't believe that I've been doing that. Hey, at least I got McCargo right. -

Now I think why Marv was frothing to come back to Buffalo for the GM job. He loves Buffalo, the franchise and the atmosphere. He saw a short turnaround here in this situation when everyone else considered us a laughingstock. He came in and purged the malcontents, second tier players and the miscast personnel. I think that this is part of the reasoning on Spikes, that and his serious injury. He then proceeded to implement the scheme, coach(s) and players for this team's foundation immediately. He took a controversial selection with Whitner and then traded up for McCargo. While McCargo is still an unknown dimension, Marv moved in the right direction by addressing important defensive needs. Year two what did he do? He jumped right in on the first day of free agency and instantly fortified our O-Line. We weren't going to be able to pay Clements and still be able to afford to move forward. Sometimes it's better to give so you can get. I think that's part of the reason why we went so heavily on the secondary in last year's draft. Look what Marv has done in the last 24 hours for our O-Line. He knows what it will do for our offense's foundation. He hasn't forgotten what Hull, Ritcher and Woolford provided for our play-off runs. I can't imagine that if Willis is traded that Marv would try and replace him with a bargain basement replacement. It doesn't make sense. Last but not least, I truly believe that Marv loves this organization and his only gratification is to restore this franchise with pride, dignity and character and why wouldn't he, he exemplifies these virtues. -
Especially after spending all this money on FA O-Linemen. As long as one believes that McGahee is on the trading block, then how in the world could you let him go and not replace him with an upgrade? Now I'm even more convinced that we will at least draft Lynch or even possibly Peterson. Matter of fact, I believe that it's Peterson even more so. Marv can't let McGahee go and then chance another team to trade up and select Lynch after Peterson has been drafted. The compensation for McGahee, the possible trade and compensation for Spikes and pick(s) from next year's draft provides many different ways on how to move up in this year's draft. Before anyone wants to cast any doubt on this scenario, keep in mind how Marv has been marching to his own beat since he came back as GM. Marv's navigation of the personnel as GM is second to nobody and that includes Donahoe.

Broncos talking 3rd-round pick trade for Willis?
Tipster19 replied to cåblelady's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, the Broncos have two 3rd rd picks, #70 (from Washington) and #86. The #70th pick is the 6th pick into the rd. The compensatory picks don't start until the end of the 3rd rd. If this is the pick that Denver is offering than we might better seriously consider it. This is a scenario that Marv might be keeping on the backburner until he gets closer to the draft or until he can secure a partial replacement in free agency. If MaGahee is traded, than I do believe that we're going to draft a valid prospect with either of our first two picks. I know people are wanting to still keep MaGahee for at least one more year but I don't see it happening. It's gone too far now in the speculation mode to keep him happy this year and not be a disruption to our team chemistry. Does this seem accurate? -
I think that we could still be 3 or 4 signings away from being done in free agency. One thing that you have to say for Marv, he definitely has a plan and is executing it. Maybe I'm wrong but I thought he said that we would be looking at some RFAs. What positions of need are left and who could fill them? Go Bills!

With this new, massive O-Line, what RB are we going
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Speaking of the Raiders, if Buffalo were to really trade up for Peterson, this is the team to deal with. A decision will be made in the very near future on whether or not to pay Lamont Jordan his bonus. If they choose not to pay him then he's gone. Based on that scenario, would our #12 pick, MaGahee and next year's 3rd rd pick be enough for us to get the top pick in this year's draft? -
RB Chris Brown. When him and his agent sees what kind of committment Buffalo has made to compete and for the run game, they'll be attracted to such an ideal situation to revive Brown's career.

Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Chris Brown is really the addition that I would like to see Buffalo make. He's 6'3" and can really run. The downside is that he's injury prone. That's why I would like to see A-Train get resigned and that we draft a valid RB. Platoon this position and infuse it with a youngblood. -
Picking up a FA RB for the interm like Chris Brown or Corey Dillion would allow us the time to groom a future RB. The way I look at it is we can do one of three things. First, move up in the 1st rd and draft Peterson. Secondly, stay put and draft Lynch with the #12 pick or third but not least, trade back for extra pick(s) and take Bush or even Hunt later in the draft.

Marv said that we would be players in free agency.
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Looks like Marv wasn't kidding! With the signing of Whittle, Dockery and Walker already being in town and the expressed interest in RB Chris Brown, I wonder what LB(s) and Clements' replacement are going to be. I don't think that we'll have to wait long! Buffalo has been the most active in signing/inviting FAs and it has only been 13 1/2 hours since FA began! Go Bills! -
Get it done!
