Trading Spikes has advantages and disadvantages
Tipster19 replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It doesn't have to be the Super Bowl but rebuild mode isn't acceptable either. This team needs to be in the play-offs this year as they build towards an even brighter future after. While Buffalo is purging players they will be not be idle or shy (at least I hope) in improving this roster for THIS year. I expect some big moves still ahead for us in the very near future ( draft, June 1st and/or trades, etc.). -
The guy was unhappy and didn't want to play here. Couple that with his intelligence and it's not hard to figure out the results. I'm sure his mother is a nice lady but 3 kids, 3 different fathers. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. The only way to motivate this guy is to have his brother barking in his face or him thinking that someone is better than him. Selfish and insecure, two good adjectives in descibing McGahee. Donahoe should have hired McGahee's brother when they ingeniously let Rusty Jones go. I don't hate the guy but I definitely don't like him or regret one bit getting rid of his ass. I'm also not wishing serious injury for him but I am looking forward to playing against him. I'm real curious what will happen. Marv's assembley of a team with chemistry and high character players vs. the selfish, immature idiot from the U who thrives on showing people up. I expect the collected to prevail over the individual efforts but I'm sure McGoofy will give maximum effort in this contest. Forget the hate, just forget McGahee.

The Broncos are shopping ILB Al Wilson.
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A little more information concerning the Al Harris situation. Hey, let our doctors check him out and make their own determinations, we got nothing to lose. It's going to be an awkward for a defensive captain to return to a team that was trying to trade him. What's that new term going around? Oh yeah, we probably could get him for cheap! http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2810188 -
Keep in mind that while SD has control of his rights they can determine where he goes. Once he becomes a UFA he can be signed by any team. Do you really think that SD would want someone like Denver to sign him and they would have to play against him twice a year? Before anyone suggests that they can tag him it doesn't seem realistic. No, I believe that they tendered him so high is because they fully intended on trading him but they wanted to make sure that they could control where he would land up. Could Marv have had already something worked out before he went ahead and traded McGahee, knowing that Turner was an option?

Would this DL be the piece that puts our D over the top?
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know the likes of Akoye, Willis, and Lynch seem to be the logical choice for need but just like when Marv made it a point to take McCargo earlier than what everyone thought he should, Carriker could be the kind of player that Marv does covet. With his versatility and our defense being more of a concern for us this year, Carriker might be the type of player who makes a better pro than college player. Carriker's versatility gives us as a defense versatility. New England uses a 34 defense at certain times and then use a 43 defense. The more players that we accumalate that have multi abilities allows us more alternatives during gametime. While we have the tandem of Kelsay/Denney on one side, I'd like for us to be able to reinforce Schobel if need be. I'm curious if Carriker could be a primary DT for the most part, using him in a rotation with McCargo. Could this be possible? -
The size, speed and work ethic fits what Marv desires. I would love to see us get this guy and use him all over our defensive front line, especially in the middle. I want us to take the best player, reguardless of position. http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2007/carriker_adam http://www.ninersnation.com/story/2007/3/10/152852/390 http://www.sportsfrog.com/2007/03/2007_nfl..._carriker_d.php

It seems like Smith is willing to come off the 1st and 3rd rder for Turner. Does Marv's relationship with AJ come into play here or not? http://www.ffmastermind.com/quickbits.php

Rotoworld.com......interesting tid bits.....
Tipster19 replied to marauderswr80's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whoa, in all fairness what rotoworld is reporting is heavily tainted. I'm at work and I can't take the time to find the link to these allegations but that drive by shooting was a case of mistaken idenity. The gang member(s) who were responsible even called his grandmother's house to admit this and apologize. The charges were dropped in the assault case. The police and eyewitnesses were in agreement to the inaccuracies from the defendent. Apparently she has quite a past and reputation, maybe she should be investigated for character. Because of my activity on this message board, the more and more that I read on football players, the more I realize how much can be twisted by the media on people's personal business and character. It really isn't so glamourous being in the public eye. I don't think that it's fair how someone can destroy someone else's reputation and character by reporting what they want reguardless of the accuracy of the actual events. *I'm not discrediting this poster, just the heartless media reporters that write and twist anything that they want for a story. -
Nice pensive post BillsVet. Before I try to offer a response to your questions, I'd like to ask you a couple. What if the Bills feel like they are already close to being successful this year with the players that they have? What if they do only need a couple of players out of the draft and/or free agency to be play-off bound? Marv sure doesn't appear in a panic to fill what we all deem areas of need. Take a second to contemplate our immediate needs. 1) DT. Does Marv feel like our current rotation is more than adequate, especially with a healthy McCargo? The right draft pick here could secure this concern. 2) CB. Last year we went heavy in the secondary. Do we benefit now from this investment? Once again the proper draft pick here could melt this concern away. 3) LB. Even with the possible trade/liquidation of Spikes we're only still probably looking for 1 player at this position. Another draft pick here and we're only up to 3 picks used. 4) RB. Even if we don't sign Brown, we still got A-Train, Shaud Williams and Fred Jackson and I believe that Marv really does like this guy ALOT. Okay, need another RB for security, use another draft pick here, that's 4. I do believe we still pick up 1-2 more players (outside of RB) in free agency to help our cause and we got 4 first day draft picks. I'm not even counting our picks in day two, where there still will be players who can contribute in their first year. What if Marv really knows what he's doing and we don't? Scary thought, isn't it? Now to answer your 3 questions. First, Buffalo does both, they go out of their way to win in 2007 as they look to solidify themselves for the 2008 season. Secondly, what qualifies for success in 2007 is to have a winning record and make it to the play-offs and play some really competitive football, win or lose. Last but not least, yes, they have urgency to win in 2007 but don't confuse it for desperation.

A portion of an interview with sport agent Ron Slavin
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here's what I want my favorite to be like. I would like them to a good, competitive team that I could be proud of on and off the field. As far as Rosenhaus doing his job, no doubt. I do find it more than a coincident in how many problem players he has as clients. Before anyone states that it's a business and it's all about money, let me just say this, it isn't for me. -
A portion of an interview with sport agent Ron Slavin
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is a common thread among his clients. Most of his clients are on the Dolphins, Bengals, Jacksonville, and the Redskins. In addition to where his clients are employed, a good percentage are former University of Miami players. I think it's something like 16 out of his 90 clients are from the U. Isn't it ironic that the four teams mentioned above have either some of the worst offenders or some of the most on their rosters. I'm so glad that Marv is running our organization and made it a priority to assemble character and chemistry. -
You hear a lot on the news about agent Drew Rosenhaus and high-profile players like the Packers' Javon Walker holding out and skipping camps and practices. How much impact does that have on the business of the game? "It has a huge negative impact. Fans look at Drew Rosenhaus and think that's how all agents are. We're not. If I were his client right now, I'd want to ask him, "Drew, if you have ten holdouts, why are you on ESPN? Why are you on every single stinkin' radio and TV show talking? You should be talking to the teams trying to get our deals done instead of promoting yourself." He's on everything right now. I don't understand why the news outlets are kissing up to him so much. I mean what has he really done? He got a good deal for Clinton Portis, which you or I could have got, because Dan Schneider's going to pay anyone in Washington. Besides that, Mike McKenzie? Drew cost him $500,000 in salary and he still doesn't have a new deal in New Orleans. All the guys he signs are a lot of times guys who are in financial difficulty, guys who are broke and need new deals just for their next meal because they blow all their money. That's the type of guys he gets because he can go out and get them loans or whatever types of things he does. If you look at his client list, they're getting arrested, they're broke, and they're usually making fools of themselves. I mean yeah, he gets top dollar, but he goes about it the wrong way, if you ask me. Just talk to the team and get it done. You don't have to go out there and talk about how great you are and call yourself a shark on ESPN and say all the other agents are jealous. We're not jealous of him. We're embarrassed for him. Especially when you consider the average fan would be set for life if they made $10 million, it all seems absurd. But him bringing all the attention to himself makes the fan think that. The reality of it is, what the players are making is fair because these owners are making billions of dollars. But you don't need to bring it to the attention of the fan and bring attention to yourself. Just get the deal done with the team. Nine out of ten times, the team's going to be fair. If you produce, you're going to get paid. Drew Rosenhaus makes society have a negative perception of NFL agents."

The Broncos are shopping ILB Al Wilson.
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here's a link with more information on the scenario but keep on reading. The gossip on the QB carousel is pretty interesting, especially if Culpepper gets reunited with Moss. Wouldn't that be a scream! http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/10080863 -
The Eagles, Lions and Redskins (before they signed Fletcher) have also reportedly have been involved in talks concerning Wilson. I'm surprised Buffalo hasn't been mentioned. Marv must really have a plan or feels the lack of need at the LB position to not put out feelers for a proven ILB. This actually makes me feel better seeing that the Bills are not in a panic mode.

If Weiss gives Crennel a big thumbs up on Quinn, then that should increase the chance greatly of Peterson slipping to Buffalo. I was concerned with Houston being all over AP but with this latest transaction with Atlanta it sure does seem to indicate that they aren't too worried about their RB situation. The Texans now employ Ahman Green, Ron Dayne, Samkon Gado, Wali Lundy, undrafted free agent Chris Taylor and the eternally injured Domanick (Davis) Williams. On top of this they trade their early 2nd rder AND move back two slots in the 1st rd. The team who could surprise is the Falcons. Their current RBs are 32 yr. old Warrick Dunn, 30 yr. old Jamal Robertson, Jerious Norwood, Butchie Wallace (whoever the hell he is), and Taurean Henderson. There was an earlier report that the Falcons were one of four teams to inquire about RB Michael Turner, so I suppose that one could make a case that there would be reason for concern for them to also be interested in Peterson. They do need a S and this LaRon Landry would be real hard for them to pass him up. Whew! Here's another possible scenario of competition for Peterson's services is would be another team to trade up for him. The only reasonable one that comes to mind would be Green Bay. If Peterson were to get by Cleveland and then he was selected by Atlanta, Green Bay or even a distant Houston, then I would think that we would have to strongly consider securing Michael Turner. The only other option for us would be to just draft one in the first 3 rds. If we were to choose the latter option of just drafting a RB, then we could either draft Lynch with the 12th pick or take one in the 2nd or 3rd rd. It seems that the attraction of Lynch is getting tainted with the latest news of him having back problems. He's starting to be too dicey of such an early pick imo. If we were to draft one with either our 2nd or 3rd rder, then it's starting to be more muddled on who would be the clearer talent/value. Reviewing these scenarios, what would be the smartest, safest choice? I would have to say that maybe we should just ante up and secure Turner. We spent too much money on the O-Line to just keep this position so vunerable.
-
Kiss Turner good-bye, Atlanta just made a move that puts them in the driver seat. They were one of the four teams interested in Turner and if AJ wants a early 2nd rd pick Atlanta just got Houston's pick at #39, that's the 7th pick in the 2nd rd. We're four picks behind and it wouldn't be in our best interest to get into a bidding war. If using Spikes and/or another pick in the 2008 draft in addition with this year's 2nd rder then we might stand a chance, otherwise we would be better off picking one out of the draft. http://fantasyfootball.usatoday.com/conten...&line=91051
-
Look, if we able to get Turner, then I'll be the first to grow that stupid little 4" goutee that he wears.
-
We should of tendered him for a 4th or 5th rder so we could get out from under this lump and grab another pick.
-
Give them the second 3rd rder and package it with Spikes.
-
Rocceo, you kill me! That would be a sweet trade though. C'mon Marv, GIT ER DONE!
-
Tell AJ this, he can have what we got for McGahee this year and that's the second 3rd rder and the 7th rder. That's it, case closed. That would be like trading McGahee for Turner and Baltimore's 2008 3rd rder. If that was laid out on the table before we traded McGoofey, we would have jumped all over it.
-
I'll tell you what I would love to see. Come draft day we make a deal for Turner with one of our 3rd rders when it's time for us to pick and then we dupe Green Bay into swapping our 1st rd picks and gather more first day picks and just load up on some serious defensive players. Yeah Baby!

marshawn lynch private meeting scheduled
Tipster19 replied to tonawandaed's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
From here on out I'm sure that we are going to be hearing about alot of "leaks", not just about Buffalo but about several teams. This is the NFL's version of party poker. To give an example, in one night we hear about Michael Turner being able to be had for a high 2nd rder and then we got a private meeting with Lynch. This is some great posturing, don't you think? -
I'd seriously consider one of our 3rd rders for Turner. This would still give us three first day picks, two being somewhat early 1st and 2nd rder. We could draft some big time players with these picks while we solidify our RB situation with a 3rd rder.

Within the last two years there has been a 25% turnover with headcoaches. They inherit existing rosters with players that were not of their choices, this can lead to mismatched personnel. With the turnover with the coaches they will tend to change their players to fit their schemes. This will provide more available players who may fit in another team's philosophy. There is also the unrest with the players who become outspoken with the changes and decisions that come with new personnel. One could look at with what is currently going on with the Steelers or even use our own Buffalo Bills and Spikes. Pittsburgh's G Alan Faneca complained when the Steelers bypassed offensive line coach Russ Grimm and hired Tomlin to replace Bill Cowher. WR Hines Ward was still protesting the release of LB Joey Porter, who subsequently signed with the Miami Dolphins. When Marv & Co. took over and started to make decisions and personnel changes there was unrest with Takeo Spikes. Couple that with him coming off a serious injury and it's not hard to envision that the Bills are not anxious to pay him a big salary this year. This doesn't make either party right or wrong or good or bad. It's just a difference in opinion, philosophy and/or goals. Rosters will change and the good news is Buffalo's have been well documented and there will be no confusion on what's needed to be done or who needs to be replaced. Matter of fact, I think that we are in a pretty good position. We have a good foundation, quite a few quality picks early in the draft and a staff and most of our roster who have a whole year under their belts. This can't be said for a significant portion of the league. The good news is I think that we surprisingly have some good stability going on compared to some other teams from around the league. Take the Jacksonville Jaguars for example. When Jacksonville hired Del Rio he said he hired his top choice for 10 of his 16 assistant positions. He now has his third offensive coordinator and third special-teams coach, and four coaches remain from his original staff: defensive coordinator Mike Smith, defensive line coach Ray Hamilton, defensive backs coach Alvin Reynolds and strength and conditioning coach Mark Asanovich. Del Rio filled the last two staff vacancies in the first week of February by hiring college wide receivers coach Todd Monken and special teams assistant Tom Williams. Monken and Williams will coach in the NFL for the first time. Monken, 41, coached 17 years in the college ranks, the last two years as the wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator at LSU. Williams, 37, spent the last two years at San Jose State, where he served as co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. Del Rio had previously hired offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter, special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis, quarterbacks coach Mike Shula and assistant receivers coach Robert Prince this offseason. This is also the first time coaching in the NFL for Koetter. Koetter, Monken, Prince and Shula will be counted on to improve the Jaguars' passing game this season. The team didn't have a receiver in the NFL's top 50 in 2006, and its quarterback situation is up in the air with Byron Leftwich, David Garrard and Quinn Gray. Explaining why he hired three coaches with no NFL experience, Del Rio said in a statement on the team's Web site that he was looking for coaches who are teachers. Del Rio's running backs coach, Kennedy Pola, had only one year of NFL experience before being hired in 2005. The offensive line coach, Andy Heck, had no NFL experience when he was hired in 2004, but he was a longtime NFL player. Del Rio's staff does include some former NFL head coaches in Mike Tice and Dave Campo. Del Rio fired five coaches at the end of the season, and his tight ends coach, Alfred Roberts, left for the Cleveland Browns. In addition, Del Rio gave Roberts' duties to Tice, who is already his assistant head coach/offense, and handed Prince the new position of assistant wide receiver coach but he also filled the five vacant positions with new people. Make no mistake about the instability that is going on in this league, it's just not as much with Buffalo as initially believed.
