It's like being a kid and looking at all the bright colors and you didn't have enough money to get all the candy that you wanted. It's the same thing now in the draft, we have to prioritize. This isn't about drafting the best player but drafting the best player that fits your system. We're not in the position to draft for luxury so drafting to address your needs will come into play also. I can only go by what I read and what I see. I don't have any inside information, as most of you have already realized. I'm just going to try and use reason to figure this out. It appears that this draft is deeper in CBs and WRs. We do have needs at both of these positions, one more important than the other. Here we could address these positions from the 3rd rd or later. Where this draft is limited is the D-Line, LBs, RBs and TEs. Ironically after the first couple of LBs and RBs, two areas of need for us, become bunched up in comparable talent. Here's where we need to have our talent evaluators to do their finest job. The O-Line and QBs are to a certain degree but thankfully Marv addressed our O-Line in free agency, so it's not a top priority. I didn't even bother to read up on Ks and Ps because I don't believe that these are areas of concern for us. People are clamoring for Willis and Poz but if this was a stronger draft for LBs, where would these two be ranked? The RB position we could probably address in either the 2nd or 3rd rds but going by priority, depth in the draft and our defensive scheme I put together the following. 1st rd- (#12)- RB Marshawn Lynch. We're not getting Peterson and it's better to fill our RB position than the LB position with our first pick. He's from a pro style offense, tremendous teammate and is the type of RB that I believe Marv is looking for. 2nd rd (#43)- DT Justin Harrell. Here's the runstuffer that we're looking for. This kind of reminds me of the McCargo pick. He was the third best DT available and after him the talent dropped off. Marv found a way to get back into the first rd and took him. Here we should have the opportunity to select him with our 2nd rder even though he's climbing up the draftboard. 3rd rd (#74)- S Aaron Rouse. He's taking a dip lately and this is a realistic slot for him to be taken. He's suited to play LB in the cover 2 with his size and speed. 3rd rd (#92)- CB Josh Wilson. He's one of the fastest players in the draft period. He excells in the classroom and plays like a LB. On top of all that he's tough and physical and plays bigger than what he is. 4th rd (#111)- C Doug Datish. He replaced Nick Mangold at Ohio ST. He plays nasty and has a killer instinct. He has played all along the O-Line and he still can afford to add weight without losing speed. He'd make a great back up to Fowler and be he's eventual successor. There you have it. It's late and this is long, so I'm outta here. I hope you enjoy it.

How far does Levy let Adrian Peterson fall b/4 trading up?
Tipster19 replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really don't see Peterson sliding to #12 or us trading up for him. I really think that our first pick will be a defensive player. People aren't expecting anything out of RB Fred Jackson and rightfully so, but I think that Marv is really enarmored with this kid. If I'm accurate then drafting a RB in the 3rd rd (Brandon Jackson?) is more than likely. I'm Ok with this as long as our first pick is an animal on defense and contributes right away. -
A reason to draft Alan Branch or Okoye at #12
Tipster19 replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think that he'll be there when we pick but I would love for us to get Adam Carriker. He has all the intangibles and would provide us with a ton of versatility. He would be about one of the best picks available when we select. -
It makes you wonder just what is going on in this world today. There's high profile athletes who get paid mega money and it's still not enough. Money doesn't solve all things and it certainly doesn't make for a better person. When you see what is happening on the field and especially off of it, then it's not just a fluke. There's a moral breakdown going on and Goodell can hand out all the punishment he deems necessary but all it will do is minimize it in the league but it won't eliminate it. The real solution is that there needs to be a better lifestyle at home and better parenting. I believe that's when you'll see a difference on and off the field. My prayers are with those young people who died so needlessly and their parents who are suffering so greatly. Today is a very sad and black day in American history.

Hey JoeF, I can't stop laughing, this is one of the most original titles I've seen. Good post too, I agree.

Trent Green Trade to Miami "Imminent"
Tipster19 replied to BenchBledsoe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It might be a good idea to hold off on the celebrating. As much as you need players with ability it is almost as equally important to have players that fit your system. Green knows Cameron and his system pretty good and I suspect that he won't miss a beat. There's others who will fit this system and help contribute offensively. Although RB Ronnie Brown and TE David Martin are no LT or Gates, they are the type of players that make this offense work. They also have Booker, who could be a plus, and their rookie kid Hagan could surprise. They also have a good to a very good aging defense. The good news is that their O-Line is still unsettled and unless they resolve this before the season starts Green won't see the end of the year. I don't think that the draft will be able to provide the help that they need for this year, so look for June 1st cuts or even possibly a trade for this type of help. They do have Lemon, who like Green, knows Cameron's system. He might not be a HOFer but I would expect him to at least to be able to come in and run the offense efficently if need be. I'm not promoting the Fins because I don't think that they accomplish too much in the win column but they could cause us some trouble. I'm just not going to take them lightly. -
http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/articles/s...-nfl-rumor-mill Somebody already has posted about this but I couldn't find it. If the mods can maybe they can merge it. It's a good thing that Crowell did pack on some lbs. If we do in fact draft Willis then I fully expect Crowell to go in the inside LB position.

The Falcons are the #8 pick and are looking to draft a S.

I believe that it was St. Louis at #15. -

Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I believe that he was the only option for S. If this is the position that you can build your defense on and make it work, then why would people be disappointed in this selection. I must admit, I was initially but in hindsight I'm thrilled. Taking Bunkley or Ngata would have never given us the option of selecting a valid S. A choice had to be made and I think Marv did an excellent job in prioritizing his positions of need. McCargo was deemed the third best DT. We were able to get our starting S, who according to Marv he liked Whitner the most anyways, and still address our need at DT with a well thought of player. -

I would take Marv Levy's intelligence and football knowledge over an overwhelming majority of NFL administrators. That's not an apology, that's a boast. -
I mentioned it in an earlier post that Cleveland could really make a big move up offensively this year. If they were to draft Russell/Quinn in the 1st rd then they may want to use their very early 2nd rder to upgrade the RB position by entering the Turner Derby. They spent top ten picks in the past on offensive receivers and somebody to utilize them. Grabbing one these QBs should solidify them at this position for years to come. This leads me to think about how much can they really rely on Jamal Lewis. If Turner is everything that is perceived than making a move for him would be logical. Does anyone feel that Cleveland could be that team that comes out of nowhere to make a run for Turner?
-
Well said Brandon. I think value is better defined as what a player can bring to a team rather than just their ability. San Diego is set to make a serious run at the Super Bowl and having Turner as an insurance policy makes great sense for them, if we like it or not. This team is deep in most areas and the couple of needs that they have, WRs and DBs, this draft is strong in. They can conceivably stand pat and still address their needs adequately.

http://patriots.bostonherald.com/patriots/...mat=&page=1 Another reason why I'm not nervous about our current situation and what Marv will do in the draft. Our old senile GM sure does have a good idea on what's happening in today's game. -
Tennessee still talking to San Diego about Turner.
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let me throw another team's name in the mix for Turner that I haven't heard mentioned. Cleveland. They could grab Quinn or T Joe Thomas with their 1st rd pick and surrender their 2nd rd pick (#36) for Turner. This is of course if AJ is willing to part with Turner for a early 2nd rder. -

I would think that Bills' fans should be rooting for Calvin Johnson to be drafted first. Having the two top QBs still on the board when Detroit and Cleveland are ready to pick will create two things. One, Detroit will have no leverage over Cleveland. They have been posturing, trying to sell the idea that they may take Quinn so Cleveland would trade with them. Having both QBs and T Joe Thomas available gives Cleveland alot of options. Secondly, both teams should be choosing from these three players and I still believe that Russell will be the odd man out. This scenario will keep Peterson on the market and the next two teams selecting, Tampa and Arizona, should be addressing other needs. Washington's pick is where we need to be if we in fact do want Peterson. -
Sirius radio interviewed New Mexico LB Quincy Black.
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While I only used him as an example, he could be a good choice for us with our second 3rd rd or our 4th rd pick if he lasts that long. -
Here's a story on Adrian Peterson from Yahoo.
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Personally, I agree with you. I think that this will only fuel him even, like it did with Thurman Thomas. I just checked out some more recent mock drafts and there was some good news and some bad news. The good news is that most of the "experts" had him slipping past Detroit and Cleveland. The bad news is that most of them had Minnesota, Atlanta and Houston taking him. If we want him then I think that it would be a good idea to have the Redskins on speed dial. -
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=jc-p...o&type=lgns No doubt that there is alot of decisions to weigh up before you select someone so high in the draft. There's probably an awful lot of angles that football personnel have to look at that the average fan aren't even aware of.
-
He sounded like a really great kid and it makes you realize just how young and inexperienced these kids really are going into the draft. Listening to him made me lower my expectations for these younsters. It must be a tremendous amount of pressure and expectations for these young men to live up to. I'm realizing yet another benefit of Marv's thinking. Taking a quality player with strong character will allow the young player to not only contribute right away but in the long haul be a player/person that you can rely on. It's so easy for us to judge these players from a distance. The more I realize the microscope that they are under the less I envy them.

Not if the Raiders take him with the first and remove him from the market. That was the point of this post, that and Russell sliding in the draft. -

Manning never missed a game. There's been rumblings about McNabb, how true I don't know but the Eagles usually don't wait until they have the need before they address it.
