This is the kind of player that I would like to see the Bills take with a later pick, a multi-faceted athlete. I didn't like seeing Buffalo using a very late pick last year, our 7th rder, on a player that's one dimensional. When the Bills took DE C.J. Ah You, whose name sounds like a sneeze but his career was more like a hiccup, it was him making our roster as a DE or bust. Well, it was bust. While, I was listening to Kirwan yesterday on Sirius radio and that's what spawned this thread. He broke it down real good about the the DT taking on the responsibility of both gaps in a two TE formation. He wasn't talking about Buffalo/Stroud, just DTs in general, but he did reference Sapp and said that this was what made him special in the Tampa 2 defense. I'll research this more at a later date and provide more input to constitute this claim but I gotta go for now.

Off the top of my head I know that I read somewheres that he added a few pounds of muscle. I just can't look it up right now because I have to go to work. I remember that Bruce pretty much played in around the 268 lb weight. I wouldn't worry too much about Harvey, his upside is huge. I live in SW Florida and they love this guy down here.

That's a difficult question to answer accurately. Not all teams play two TE formations exclusively but many can based on the sequence of the possession. Stroud hopefully can provide another dimension that we didn't have before and that is he may be able to give us a look to match up with another team's offensive playcalling.

I just read that article on the Falcons and a couple of thoughts occurred to me. First, we just may have found that bigger CB to help out against the bigger WRs on opposing teams. Secondly I applaud our current administration for still cleaning up Donahoe's gambles. In hindsight I really regret that McGahee pick but even though we made a mistake in taking him we also landed up with Atlanta's 2nd rd pick in that draft. Not bad, not bad.

I beg to differ sir. What you are describing is when an opposing offense is in a single TE formation and what I stated is when the opposing offense is in a TWO TE formation. Big difference. I agree completely with this. Wide receivers and CBs can and will be taken after the 1st rd but to be able to take a playmaker for the DL is a small window of ooportunity. The stronger the DL the more the secondary can be disguised. It's no secret that Buffalo wants to rely on a heavy rotation on the DL. I wouldn't want to see the Bills reach for a DL with their first pick and if that is the case then one of the top CBs could make sense. I would like to see Buffalo take the best player available with their first pick but I'm talking on the defensive side of the ball only.

I don't know if some of these suggestions for a wide receiver comes by trade or as a roster cut but Buffalo should look at aquiring Green Bay's Ruvell Martin, San Diego's Malcolm Floyd or Tampa's Michael Clayton.

What is a big key for success in the Cover 2, and more so the Tampa 2, is for the DT to be able to occupy 2 gaps so the S doesn't have to play up in the box when the opposing offense is in a two TE formation. This is what made Warren Sapp so special. If Stroud can stay healthy and accomplish this then we will see just how good of a pick Donte Whitner really was. Each one of them needs the other for both of them, and our whole defense, to have great success.

So would I. I was listening to Sirius radio today and there was a Buffalo fan calling in and asking about our pick at #11 and what we should do. I won't reveal his whole conversation in case he wants to post it himself. In Tim Hasselbeck's response he was stating that if we went for a CB it wouldn't be a bad choice either. He then went on about Rodgers-Cromartie. I'm not sure if the guy he was talking about was DR-C's agent, trainer or whatever but apparently this guy has been associated with 96? draft picks and one who was even drafted at the 5 or 6 pick overall. Whoever this guy is said that DR-C is another Deion Sanders. Wow! If there is any truth to this, and I myself have no idea about it, then I would love to see Buffalo take DR-C if for some reason we didn't get Harvey. I don't why so many people want Buffalo to take a #2 receiver with the #11 pick, especially when there is plenty to be taken in the 2nd and 3rd rds. Buffalo wasn't able to secure the likes of Ernest Woolford and Bryant Johnson and now there is pandemonium for them to take a receiver with our first pick and some are even suggesting that we take TWO receivers within our first four picks! That one has got me laughing my @$$ off. Oh man, some of you guys are funny! All we need is a #2 receiver, that's it. As long as we don't make a trade of some kind, we'll be taking a defensive player first, that's for sure.

I don't know why everyone is wanting a receiving TE. When was the last time Buffalo incorporated one into their offense? I agree that a #2 wide receiver is a priority but not with the #11 pick overall. Prepare yourselves for a DL and DE Derrick Harvey would be my choice.

Hey thanks for the support and being a stand-up guy. When I posted this it was all my idea, good, bad or useless but it was my idea and I thought that it could be a cool twist to the draft. Does Belichick have a strong interest on some of these Gator players? If he is interested in DE Derrick Harvey then maybe he's considering trading back abit and taking him and picking up some compensation after losing a 1st rd pick. Food for thought.

Yes, but I truly believe that the Vikes were boneheads and didn't do it deliberately. No, you don't lose your pick, you simply slide a slot. While a draft hasn't been manipulated before that doesn't mean it couldn't be. I wouldn't put nothing past Parcells or any of his cronies. *See Belichick.
