  1. I don't ever clamor for responses to my posts but c'mon fellas, there's been over 350 views and only 5 responses??! I poured over this and I even invited for negative critisism if that's what was thought justified. This just isn't football tidbits or idle football speculations. This was some WORK and I'm only asking for some input, good or bad. Tweak it yourself if need be but please, enough of the Looky Lous and at least add SOME participation. Thank you. PS-This was a labor of love for me and it only comes around once a year. If a decent percentage of all the people who have viewed this will add some kind of opinion on it I'll make a deal with everyone. I will reframe from my massive onslaught of posts for awhile. How's that? Deal?
  2. I think that this is a great post and to me personally it has great meaning. This isn't about JP's playing ability, it's about character and his specifically. I'm proud that he's a part of my favorite and but not too happy about his overall on field play and decision making. How much of his decision making is his responsibility and how much is the coaching staff's is something that I truly don't know but what I do know is that it doesn't look and I sure don't enjoy watching it, especially those short passes. I will say that I place the responsibility of those failed short passes squarely on JP's shoulders. While I won't disagree with this theory I have to weigh up all of what JP has done, on and especially off the field, and said during his tenure here and draw a conclusion from that. I have to give JP the benefit of the doubt and say that even if he succeeded more on the field I still feel that he would carry himself pretty much the same way that he is now exemplifying. I remeber reading he would enjoy discussing philosophies with one of his professors hours on end and believe that mental outlook on things in life is far superior to most players and civilians. I couldn't agree with you more. I'm older now and have seen through the years what I once perceived as die hard loyal, bluecollar fanbase to alot of bitter what have you done for us now lynch mob and I must say, it's very unbecoming and even makes me ashame of some of our behavior. If a player sucked but was loyal and grateful in his time spent on the roster then I always pull for him in his future endeavors. On the other hand when a player is great but is a selfish me me, @$$hole (Bruce Smith), then I put up with him while he is playing for us and is producing but when he's done I don't really give two sh--s about him. And then there's Darryl Talley. They broke the mold after him. Man do I miss that guy! No matter what happens to JP or where he goes I hope this guy enjoys a great day in the sun. He deserves it. What I would really love to see happen is that he continues to work hard, keep his mouth shut and if and when he gets an opportunity, he explodes and leads this team to great success. I don't expect for this to happen but that's what I would like to see.
  3. Feel free to adjust the picks with your own. 1. Miami- De Chris Long- It's the best return for the Fins plus it's Howie's kid, he's NFL groomed. 2. St. Louis- OT Jake Long- Having a decimated OL and T Orlando Pace wearing, somebody has to protect Bulger. 3. Atlanta- QB Matt Ryan- They aquired RB Michael Turner, their image has taken a beating and Ryan will help restore the fans' belief in the franchise. 4. Oakland- RB Darren McFadden- Sorry Jones, you're out. Al Davis loves his offense and what a great compliment to JaMarcus Russell. 5. Kansas City- DT Glenn Dorsey- His versatility to play in either defense is a plus. Kansas City finally gets it right and drafts the right DT. 6. New York- CB Leodis McKelvin- The Jets were one of the most active teams in free agency, alot of areas were addressed but here they solidfy the secondary. 7. New England- DE Vernon Gholston- He can play with a hand on the ground or as a OLB who is more than just a competent replacement for Roosevelt Colvin. 8. Baltimore- DT Sedrick Ellis- Best player available and Baltimore isn't afraid to keep their lines stocked. RDT Trevor Price is aging and this refuels their DL. 9. Cincinatti- LB Keith Rivers- They really need help on defense and at the LB position. This is a no brainer. 10. New Orleans- CB Aqib Talib- When did the Saints ever have a decent secondary? Talib not only has good size but can also play man and zone. 11. DE Derrick Harvey- I'll reserve comment here. 12. OT Ryan Clady- Denver is getting away from zone blocking and they need help in protecting Cutler. San Diego exposed them last year. 13. S Kenny Phillips- This more about the shortage of quality of Safeties in this draft and Mike Minter retiring. 14. Chicago- RB Rashard Mendenhall- Cedric Benson can't stay healthy and has been a disappointment. Here they look for a playmaker on offense. 15. Detroit- CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie- The Lions fall in love with DRC's speed. 16. Arizona- CB Mike Jenkins- The Cardinals' secondary is dangerously thin, CB is the pick here. 17. Minnesota- OL Branden Albert- Good bye Branden. OL Bryant McKinnie is on thin ice and the Vikes can't rely on him with his off the field antics. 18. Houston- OT Chris Williams- The Texans get lucky and get the player that they wanted all along. 19. Philadelphia- WR Devin Thomas- Mcnabb needs a playmaker and that's exactly what Thomas is. 20. Tampa- Kentwan Balmer- The Bucs really wanted Devin Thomas but they lost out to the Eagles so they settle for the next best thing, a versatile DT. 21. Washington- Wr Limas Sweed- The 'Skins get their big body wide out in Sweed. 22. Dallas- RB Jamaal Charles- He should be a great compliment to Barber. 23. Pittsburgh- DE Phillip Merling- He has the demeanor to be a Steeler-mean- and can play a variety of positions in different schemes. 24. Tennessee- RB Jonathan Stewart- If he can stay healthy than he's the homerun threat to compliment Vince Young. 25. Seattle- TE Dustin Keller- No more Jeremy Stevens and after last year's disaster, no more Marcus Pollard. The 'Hawks' offense depend on a receiving TE. 26. Jacksonville- DE Calais Campbell- Now that Stroud is gone, the Jaguars need somebody to pair up with Henderson and Campbell is great against the run. 27. San Diego- OT Jeff Otah- He's a steal at this slot and AJ Smith is all over it. 28. Dallas- CB Antoine Cason- Cason has been invited to the Valley Ranch training complex for a pre draft visit. 29. San Francisco- OT Gosder Cherilus- The 49'ers can always use OL help, especially with Jonas Jennings on the roster an a aging Larry Allen. 30. Green Bay- CB reggie Smith- He has played S and now CB and offers the Packers great versatility in their secondary. 31. New York- CB Brandon Flowers- This is the Giants' biggest need. Whew! That was alot of work but I think that I covered it all. Any input or comments, good or bad, are appreciated.
  4. Based on exactly what the status is on his knees it wouldn't shock me if Kelly were to slip even to the 3rd rd. This is not about his talent but to do with his overall health. It's being said that he's not even on some teams' draft boards and if that is true then it will effect the other teams who do have him on their boards. If you couple this with the fact that there is other positions to be addressed on a team and a wide range of receivers available in this draft and a slide is not out of the question. He's projected to be best suited for a WCO, which we don't run, so why would he be our choice? As far as Limas Sweed goes, he's 6'4"/215 lbs but he's not a very physical receiver. aren't we supposed to be in need of a #2 possession type receiver? A #2 receiver makes me think that this type of receiver should be more on the physical side, no? Is everyone keeping in mind that the speed of the game and fighting off the jam at the LOS is a big adjustment for these college kids? Who excels in these areas out of this crop of prospects? If we are going to take a receiver with our first rd pick then I sure hope that it's going to be Devin Thomas. He looks to not only be the best out of this class but also the safest pick.
  5. If you could explain your reasoning it would give some understanding to what we have got on our hands. Thanks again.
  6. Is there a Qb, or QBs, that Edwards remind you of? Understanding his strengths and abilities may shed some light on who would be a better compliment for him in the receiving department. I'm not sure who he reminds me of physicly but his demeanor may be along the lines of someone like Joe Montana?? I meant be way off base on this one so I'm asking for some input for a better understanding. Thanks.
  7. I like the thinking but couldn't we just trade Losman for a 4th rd pick? I think that I'm starting to like the idea of us using a draft pick, present and/or future, to move up in this year's draft. I said it before but if we used our 2009 1st rd pick and coupled it with Losman for Minnesota's pick at #17 in this year's draft then that would be a tempting opportunity.
  8. Having Rod Smith retiring and now Marshall being incapacitated for awhile, Denver may have to consider a WR in the early part of this year's draft.
  9. True story. In that first Super Bowl I was living in a house with plaster and lath walls. When Thurman tore off that run late in the game to give us a shot, I was so damn proud that I wheeled around and punched the wall. Fortunately for me it was an interior doorway that was the only wall with drywall but that was unbeknownst to me at the time. Of course it was a topic of conversation for a few days and I was tempted to put a frame around the hole and call it a Thurman window. Of course all I did was cause more work for myself and just landed up patching it in.
  10. He's projected to go in the 3rd-4th rd. He attended a speed school and has shaved his 40 time and was tied for 6th best among 54 receivers. His Pro Day is March 28. http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/profile.php?pyid=56403 http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingr...omesimpson.html
  11. I'm joking, you said that you would take a big pass on Dilfer. If you can catch a big pass from Dilfer then we should just use you for the #2 receiver position. It's a play on words, that's all.
  12. He cut an artery, a vein and some tendons. He'll miss the next three months, the injury is much more serious than first believed.
  13. I love this little nugget. Kelly got hurt in both the Sooners' bowl games the past two years. He hasn't participated in any pre-draft events. Kelly plans to run privately on April 9. Mayock hints that there is a good chance Kelly, the No. 1 receiver in the draft according to some internet services, will go in round two. http://rotoworld.com/content/HeadLines.asp...FL&hl=96255 Don't worry sport fans, he'll never make it to the 2nd rd, we'll lock him up with the #11 pick overall and outsmart the rest of the league.
  14. Good, then a #2 receiver isn't so important in this year's draft, we'll just plug you in.
  15. Bravo, but you're preaching to the choir, I'm pretty much in agreement with your post. This draft is thin at the TE, OG and S positions, not WR. The knock on the WRs is that people are pushing them up in the draft a little too early but there is plenty to be taken.
  16. Looks like the Commissioner is not going to tolerate tampering any longer.
  17. Look, I'm home on lunch and I can't elaborate more on the points I offered so I'm hoping that you address EVERYTHING that I stated and realize that players from other administrations don't automaticly get released because of that but more so because of the of the circumstances.
  18. It has nothing to do with being petty or stupid. Let me remind some people about Ruben Brown and Eric Moulds, two pretty good examples. They were shown the door for similiar reasons and some very different reasons. Brown just rebuked what the current administration was laying down, thus we had a player that wasn't buying into what was currently happening. Moulds on the other hand was in direct defiance of supporting the annointed QB. Does that sound a little familiar? They keep on saying that they want to re-sign Evans for quite some time now. What's holding this up? Nate Clements was another player who wasn't retained for a whole other reason. Money. This administration has let some players go that they even picked, whether it was in the draft or FA signings. There are plenty of reasons for not retaining players but shedding players from another administration is definitely one of them, it's just a matter of what causes it. I never stated that it was about stupidness, ego, pettiness or any other superficial reason. It's shallow for anyone to assume that I was insinuating that any of these were the cause.
  19. I think that if this were to be a possible option for the FO then it would served us much better to fortify the team to insure that Edwards, or whoever the QB is, to have great protection and success throughout the WHOLE season and then highlight Lee Evans and boost his stock.
  20. I'm with you 100% on this thought. All I'm saying is that a valid compliment doesn't have to be selected with our first rd pick. I need to temper what I want and what I think. I feel that dependinding how many WRs are taken in the first rd will determine if we use a 2nd or 3rd rder to address our need at this position. When there is supposed to be a WR like Jordy Nelson available in the 3rd rd then I feel that that we can accomplish what we need in this rd. If the need or desire is much bigger than what I'm anticipating then we could definitely use our second rder to grab a more than adeguate WR. Keep in mind that a trade up into the first rd, or even more realisticly the second rd, is still an option that we can execute.
  21. Thanks for the pointer on keeping things in proper perspective. This is a great post for this time of the year. I'd rather read more about personal interviews right now instead of hearing about all these 40 times and vertical jump results.
  22. Ooh, that's funny!
