I'm talking glory here. Buffalo will get their Bills paid
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We do but it doesn't need to be a high profiled TE, just one who can adequately block and have good, reliable hands and decent speed. Edwards' learning curve, more offensive weapons (#2 WR and a compliment TE) and the team staying relatively healthy. I do believe that overloading a rookie QB would have been detrimental to his developement. Having a year under his belt and getting accustomed to the game speed should have a profound effect in his results in year two. I didn't mention the coaching because I believe that it's the players who win the games. The coach has to implement solid fundamentals and schemes but the execution comes down to the players. A coach is just a manager during gametime and while I'm not a big believer at this time in jauron i just think that we have a great foundation and we are just lacking only a few playmakers and I'm counting on our FO to supply this in the draft and June 1st cuts. At the risk of getting flamed I was never of the thought that Marv was a great coach but more of someone who benefitted from having a great roster of players that Polian provided. He was a solid football guy who I believe his greatest strength was that he knew how to manage his players. He let them play and kept them on an even keel and I'm expecting Jauron to bring the same kind of coaching with him this year. -

Teams having more game tapes on Edwards is partly responsible for him degressing. In all fairness to Fairchild had he not scaled back our offense Edwards' growth would have been stunted before he was ever allowed to grow. The guy was a rookie and early on I believe that the administration realized that there was a much bigger difference between him and Losman than they ever expected. I know that one game doesn't tell everything but I watched that Buffalo/Dallas game again last night and Edwards was darn right great on most of his decisions and delivery of the ball. This guy is way ahead of the curve for a rookie QB. I realize that he did make some mistakes in that game but minor ones that can be easily corrected. Our offense didn't help either. I am more concerned with our OL and Lynch not providing more help than they did. Having such big linemen we should have been blowing people off the line and getting Lynch the opportunity for a good game. I hold Lynch accountable to a certain degree also for not being able to provide better production. In both cases though we have a newly formed OL that is learning to play with each other and a rookie RB. It doesn't help our cause either that we were playing against a very good DL that has been playing together a little longer than our OL has. These aren't excuses but reality. I think that in our second year we'll be seeing a quantum leap in our progress, especially if we make the proper aqusitions that are needed to fortify our roster. -

Thank you and no offense taken. I agree wholeheartedly with you Mr. Dibs. How deep we got into the play-offs would of course hinge on a few very important factors. Those being splitting with the Patriots and having a good division record, a strong conference record and playing at home against the rights team(s) in inclement weather. Playing home against the likes of Cleveland, Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Denver definitely dilutes the advantage of playing against warm weather/indoor teams. -

I'm all about making trades but we really have a good, solid nucleus that just needs a few important pieces. Trading one of our players other than Losman, and I'm not too sure if that's a great idea but based on the situation and compensation would be the determining factors, would be more of a setback. Getting rid of one of our recivers who is very familiar with our personnel and then trading for one who doesn't really isn't too appealing to me. I'd rather trade for a proven veteran for a position of need of ours than just swap recievers and a 3rd rder. The only trading that I would like to see with Minnesota is us trading our 2nd rd pick (#41) and Losman to them for the #17 pick. Other than that we can just stand pat. -

If we really want to get creative then we could still trade back into the 1st rd and also draft DE Phillip Merling. He has the versatility to play DE or DT in a 4/3 defense. Now that would be addressing a whole bunch of concerns. Would anybody be mad if we landed up with Devin Thomas, Lito Shepard and Phillip Merling before the 1st rd concluded? Yeah baby! Go Bills! -
The Eagles are looking to move up in the draft from the #19 pick to somewheres around the #9 or #10 slot by using CB Lito Shepard as a bargaining chip. Swapping positions with the Eagles from that area of the draft would equate to about the value of a mid 2nd rd pick. If Derrick Harvey is off the board by the time we pick then I could see the value in swapping with the Eagles and taking the best available WR with the #19 pick and aquiring Shepard in the process. The compensation would be fair, getting a WR at #19 instead of the #11 pick would be a better value and addressing another potential need in our secondary would make good sense. If that were to happen would that make everybody happy? http://www.nj.com/columns/times/eckel/inde....xml&coll=5

Am I talking Super Bowl? It's possible maybe just not probable but I'm talking play-offs, deep play-offs. The biggest competition comes not only from our conference but from our division. Splitting the season with the Patriots will be huge for our playoff and division aspirations. Having some kind of homefield advantage in the play-offs would also make a difference in our post season success. The top contenders are New England, San Diego, Indiapolis, and Jacksonville. There are plenty more in the conference that could be mentioned but at this point of the off season but they would have to be considered dark horses just like us. If we are able to wrestle the division title away from the Patriots then the other three teams that I mentioned are either warm weather teams or a indoor team. Having a play-off game in Buffalo late in the year could prove to be huge, especially if it's inclement weather. We have much of our nucleus in place for a serious run at success. There is not one area on our team that is lacking dramaticly. Each area is just one or two players from being just average to great. QB- Edwards is going to be everything that we hope for as long as he stays healthy. He has a great release, extremely accurate and processes with what's going on the field very quickly. Having a year under his belt will only propel his results more. What is needed is an adequate back-up, whethern if it's a veteran of if Hamdan is capable of stepping up. OL- They were really coming into their own as the season progressed. Here is where we need a player, possibly two. I would really like to see an upgrade at the C position and at least a player who could fill in for Jason Peters in the event of injury. WR- Believe it or not we have very good receivers. Granted, we need a big possession type receiver for the #2 position. It's going to happen in the draft, first day actually. TE- How important is the TE position? It's important but mostly for blocking. It's easy to get frustrated when you watch the likes of Gonzalez, Witten, Gates, and others but grabbing a servicable one for pass catching could and should be addressed in the mid rds (3-5). I seen a lot of effort from Royal in some of these games last year and while he may not be the answer to what we are looking for he does solidfy one of the two TE positions. Think of Denver with Daniel Graham and Tony Scheffler. We need a Scheffler. I think that Jacob Tamme is that kind of TE and he can be available in the 4th of 5th rd. RB- C'mon, do we need to go there? We are more than adequate and this is not an area of concern at this time. DL- We have GOOD DEs. Adding a blue chip DE would most certainly make this position a force. At DT was resolved in free agency and this finally looks to be a solid position for us. Secondary- Another position that we'll add to in the draft but it's not an eyesore. We have dealt with more than our share of injuries and at this position in particular. LB- We have good, young starters but we can stand to fortify this position even more by the draft and/or June 1st cuts. Injuries of course changes the complexion of any of the above by I'm counting on the law of average for our success. STs- We have one of the best in the league even with the losses we had this off season. Between RB and STs these are the two areas where we have some comfort level. I look at our positions on our team and I'm alot more optimistic than discouraged. This was just a brief general overview but I feel that it's more accurate than not. I'm expecting big results in this year's draft and team.

Please just tell me that you're just being sarcastic on this one because you can't be serious. I've been reading some of your posts lately and you seem pretty bitter about something. I don't mean to be rude but are you really a Bills' fan? If so, what has turned you so anti? Even if it's just isolated with Losman you should still be alright with viewing him as a back up QB but you're not. This is more like a vendetta, so what gives? -
It's a good read. Do we have the stud RG in Brad Butler? I would like to add more help to this position in this year's draft. Although marv & Co spent gobs of money on our OL we still have a ways to go before it's the kind of line that dominates. I said earlier in another post tonight that I wouldn't be disappointed if we weren't able to get Derrick Harvey that we drafted Branden Albert with our first pick. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writ...ings/index.html

I realize that it's only one game but there is still some things that one can walk away with. 1. Anyone who thinks that Edwards shouldn't be the starter over Losman or isn't our QB of the future is sadly mistaken. His release, touch and decision making is far supior to JP and we got a good one here. Watching him throw those short and intermediate passes right on the numbers was flat out AWESOME. I'm sorry but we haven't and won't get that from JP. I like Losman but Edwards is our answer for success, now and in the future. Here's the difference between the two to me. Edwards is, or can be, a good QB and Losman just has some good things about him but is lacking in other areas. What hurts Edwards the most is the lack of experience but that won't last for long. 2. I got a real sick feeling when I saw us in the first half go for one yd on 3rd AND 4th down and not get it. Once again this screams for us to address the trenches. I'm confident that Derrick Harvey and/or Branden Albert will be available when we pick at #11 and if we better take one or the other. Blast me all you want but we need to dominate the LOS on both sides of the ball and right now we got alot of pieces in place but are still missing an important player or two on both sides of the ball. 3. There was a pass play to Lynch that went for 22 yds. It looked great but I did not like the way it ended. Lynch was running down the sideline and could have turned the play back into the field but chose to go out of bounds. I like and enjoy watching Lynch but I'm out on using Beast Mode after watching a run end like that but then again I'm used to watching Walter Payton and haven't seen a RB that even comes close since him. 4. Both halves ended on a FG. Lucky f@#$ing us. 5. I liked watching some of Roscoe's field vision. At one time or another I called for trading him but I can see that I was wrong, the guy is a playmaker. 6. I think that Jabari Greer played a heck of a game and our DEs are good, they just need a little more help and hopefully the Stroud and Mitchell is that help. 7. Is this George Wilson another Jason Peters type find or what?! 8. I think that with just a little bit of good fortune and a strong draft we could actually threaten for the division title.

Those stupid drills that DL coach Tim Krumrie puts his players and prospects thru are getting ridiculed around the league. I guess that Donahoe had more than his share of failed draft picks but where I think where he really bombed out was with the coaches that he assembled. http://www.sbsun.com/sports/ci_8790380 http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/04/05/...ot-carroll-mad/ http://www.profootballtalk.com/category/rumor-mill/

We'll never know if Losman could of been our QB of the future but I think that he'll be in this league for a long time. JP can throw the nicest long ball and then follow it up with the most frustrating skip passes on the the short throws. I think that besides of all the changes that he had to endure I think the thing that affected him the most was that our past and current administrators did do the one and the same thing with him and that was to try and make him more of a pocket passer and I just don't think that that plays to his strengths. Atlanta always tried to make Michael Vick something that he's not and I think that Buffalo is guilty of the same type of thing IMO. The risk in trading JP is if Trent edwards can be a healthy QB. I think as of right now nobody can be confident in him playing a full season. Having said that a veteran QB (Dilfer?) would be the safest bet for us to ensure of this. I might be overlooking Hamden but that is because he is an unknown factor to me at this time. I agree that there is definitely a few teams who would have more than just a mild interest in JP. I think that Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Seattle and Green Bay would be the strongest suitors for him but then again, what the hell do I know? I think that I'll start a few more posts up and think about this for a little while more. -
When we drafted JP there was alot of talk about him having similiar type qualities of Brett Farve. Well, Holmgren was the one who spearheaded that trade with Atlanta and he also took Farve's back up with him to Seattle. Matt Hasselbeck is getting up there in years and his back up, Seneca Wallace, is really being looked at as a potential WR. That makes sense when you really think about it. Since 1999 the 'Hawks have gone thru more than their share of WRs. Starting with Joey Galloway, Koren Robinson, Darryl Jackson, Deion Branch, Nate Burleson, Bobby Ingram, and DJ Hackett. Most of them are gone and the ones left are either ancient, hurt or disappointing. I'm sure that they regret trading that 1st rder for Branch, the guy has been hurt more times than not. They do have Jordan Kent on their practice squad and it wouldn't surprise if they incorporate him into their offense this year. I guess that they could always fall back on Charlie Frye but the last time that I remember Frye was watching when Braylon Edwards was verbally undressing him on national TV. Charlie Frye as the future franchise QB? I don't think so. It's a natural transition looking back on Holmgren's QBs to expect the Seahawks to think that Farve to Hasselbeck to Losman are QBs that have similiar type of physical and athletic attributes.

I don't want to use the word hate but what Dolphin player got under your skin the most? For me it was a close race between Brian Cox and Louis Oliver. I think for me it would have to be Oliver. I'll never forget when they beat us and Oliver was so elated and was saying how he was going to ride that Buffalo or some stupid remark like that. It bother me alot to hear that idiot mock us so gleefully.

Do the Bills have a chance?

I agree. I think too many Bills' fans are overlooking the Tuna factor. The guy knows football and the guy knows personnel. -
James Hardy is a great pick at the WR position.....

I saw what you're speaking of. I stand corrected in my estimation of him if this has any truth to it, which at this point in time I'm sure it is. -
It's cool. I agree that we should be taking the BPA, especially on defense. Buffalo has no business being selective in drafting for need. Where the Bills have some positions addressed none are very deep. The most effective drafting comes from taking the best playmakers. Several years back the Eagles were loaded in the secondary and then promptly went out and drafted a couple of more. The best players find a way to get on the field and either lead or at least contribute to their team. There was a time when Buffalo had the best LBs. It seems so long ago when our defenses were down right dominant.
