  1. It's no secret that Donald Driver was Farve's favorite receiver. They used a high draft picks (2nd & 3rd) on Greg Jennings, James Jones and Farve was a big fan of Koren Robinson. I believe that what we are looking for in a #2 WR is a big body who can outjump and outmuscle defenders and move the chains. Look back at most of Martin's receptions and they were usually important ones for either 1st downs or red zone catches. It was almost comical around here when we didn't sign Earnest Wilford or Bryant Johnson. It was almost like it was the end of the world. I'm curious, what kind of stats did those two stars have? http://www.packers.com/team/players/martin_ruvell/
  2. Now that Mularkey is running the offense down in Atlanta, they are expecting to be running the ball alot more and implimenting the H Back/ TE position, relying on WRs less. Second year man Laurent Robinson may have the inside track playing opposite WR Roddy White, thus pushing Joe Horn and Michael Jenkins into the background. Jenkins would make a good #2 WR. He's got the size, athleticism, and experience to fulfill this capacity. A lot has happened in Atlanta and this could be a player that might have been more a victim of circumstances. They are looking for another blocking TE and involving TE Matt Murphy in the deal may soften the compensation for Jenkins. Jenkins is signed thru 2010 but his contract is voidable in '09. The Falcons may be looking for some compensation now instead of losing all value with Jenkins in the next year or two. Malcolm Floyd is another big receiver with experience and the Chargers are very thin with draft picks in this year's draft. They have a 1st rder and then a 5th rder but none in the 2nd - 4th rds. If we don't select a WR in rds 1 or 2 then using our 3rd rder for an experienced WR like Floyd could prove to be the better move for us. To the disappointment to some I think that the Packers have more than their share of WRs and Ruvell Martin could make an ideal #2 WR. The same principles could be reasoned as the forementioned scenario with Malcolm Floyd, if we haven't resolved the WR position in the first two rds than here's another WR we could probably trade for by using a mid day pick (4th or 5th rder?).
  3. Speak of life.....not death. Speak of victory.....not defeat. Speak of unity .....not dissension. Speak of wins.....not losses. Speak of courage.....not cowardice. Speak of focus.....not dementia. Speak of patience.....not urgency. Speak of calmness.....not chaos. Speak of the future.....not the past. Speak of optimism.....not pessimism. This is what I choose to think and say for the Buffalo Bills of the 2008 season. What you speak of will determine your direction. It's important for the fans of this great franchise to unite for a common cause. We have come too far to let what we have to dissipate.
  4. Ok, I get the point. I see I wore my welcome out around here. For the sake of goodwill, I'll try to keep my posting to a minimum, I'm not here to argue with anyone or make enemies but I'm also not here to get insulted either. I'm on this board because it's a Bills' and football message board and that's what I usually try to talk about, not about each other. I love this time of the year (draft time) and just before the start of the year because of the optimism that it holds but I can see that that's not allowed around here.
  5. I've been touting Tamme for awhile now. I think that this is our type of TE that can be taken with a 4th or 5th rd pick. I'm expecting Buffalo to take him, he's a good value in these rds.
  6. Just one. I like to comment on your selective reading. It was nice how you skipped right over the whole Henry-MaGahee-Lynch scenario. Stay behind your keyboard and take potshots, you're just another fine example. I never distinguished between management because I have been a constant fan of the Bills, so it doesn't matter to me who drafted who. Granted Edwards was the best value to Marv & Co when they picked him so he wasn't drafted as an intentional replacement but didn't Donahoe trade our 1st rd pick for Bledsoe and then drafted Losman to be his replacement because Drew sucked? Oh, that's what I thought. As far as drafting for Evans replacement, I said IF that was why we were drafting a WR that it would be the icing on the cake. There has been some people who used this as a reason to draft a WR with our first pick. This is what spurred this thread.
  7. Seeing that I'm dumb Einstein, why don't you explain to me why this thread is dumb.
  8. Sorry pal but it's already been talked about and I don't believe I was the first one either. http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showtopic=63422&hl=
  9. Thanks, I appreciate your support. Lee Evans is supposed to be our guy, we should be looking for a compliment to him. If Buffalo isn't going to re-sign Evans then I could quickly change my mind on our draft priority but I'm expecting (hoping) that Evans will be wearing Buffalo blue for a long time. Here's Martin's bio, tell me what you think. The guy has paid his dues and he could be ready for more responsibility. I'm only using Martin as an example for our #2 WR. I feel that he, or someone like him, could fulfill this role for us. The learning curve would be eliminated in trading for an experienced WR versus drafting a WR with our first pick in the draft. Martin was good enough for the Packers and Farve but he's not good enough for our #2 WR?? I know, Earnest Woolford was the end all answer for us. Get real. http://www.packers.com/team/players/martin_ruvell/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruvell_Martin
  10. Replacing Drew Bledsoe with JP Losman, Travis Henry with Willis MaGahee, Willis MaGahee with Marshawn Lynch, and then JP Losman with Trent Edwards. This is only the major components on the offensive side of the ball. Have I missed anyone? If we are looking to replace Lee Evans in this year's draft would be the icing on the cake. When are we going to have continuity?
  11. Not with our first pick and who said anything about being scared??! How is it that Martin hasn't panned out? We're looking for a #2 WR, not a Jerry Rice.
  12. I think that we can all put to rest us taking a WR at the #11 spot. Trading for a veteran WR would not surprise me at all. It would give us an instant return and a clear idea on exactly what we would be getting. I think Green Bay has more than their share of WRs, and as once someone mentioned it before and I echoed it, Ruvell Martin would be a fine addition for our team. If a scenario were to unfold like this than I would love for us to use a 2009 pick rather than one from this year's draft. I love this excerpt from Gil Brandt in the article. “It has the biggest mortality rate of any position percentage-wise,” Gil Brandt, the former Dallas personnel executive and current NFL.com analyst, said at the NFL Scouting Combine in February. “It’s a very hard position to learn. Second-hardest other than being a quarterback. So buyer beware.” http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/billsnfl/story/322332.html
  13. Hey, thanks alot billsfanincuse, that was real cool of you to do that for the board. It's a perfect visual of what makes the Cover 2 hum, great DL pressure and super secondary coverage. Of course watching Roscoe taking it to the house on that PR will get anybody jacked up! Go Bills!
  14. I agree with you Tomcat but I don't think that we get rid of a DE, we just keep 'em all. By the way, great insight on the possibility of a trade for a WR.
  15. I'd like to use the the 3rd and one in the Dallas Monday Nighter game as an example. We then went go for it on 4th down and promptly got stuffed. If Harvey is gone and Albert is there, then I'm all in.
  16. What a great post and a excellent thread this is. This is the kind of thread that this board was meant for. I agree with just everything everyone had to say except for I'd be disappointed if we were to trade down. I'd like to see Buffalo take the BPA. We could use help in many areas and the BPA should have an immediate impact for us, whether it were a DE, CB, OL, LB, or WR. That is also my exact order for priority. No matter what are selection is going to be, I think that we are going to have a great draft and we are all going to be very pleased with it. I'm expecting great things for us, not only in the draft but also in the upcoming season. Go Bills!
  17. Seeing that Buffalo is locked in to the Cover 2 defense someone like Harvey makes it effective. There is more than one option for us at the #2 WR position and multiple ways to make this offense efficent but it wouldn't be able to accomplish enough without an effective defense. There is not alot of options for us after the our first pick to make this defense hit it's full potential.
  18. He said that a good pass rushing DE like Harvey makes that kind of defense work. I thought that I'd pass it along.
  19. Looking back at all the obstacles and issues our offense has had in the last few years, I don't think that the job WR Coach Tyke Tolbert has done so far has been truly recognized. I'll keep this short but just check out his bio and see what he has quietly accomplished with all the crap that he had to endure with this offense. I've been checking out Wisconsin WR Paul Hubbard and this guy could land up being a real steal but the biggest problems with him is his inconsistent hands and running sloppy routes. I'm thinking that with his physical attributes and Tolbert mentoring him, Hubbard could be a Brandon Marshall type of receiver. Even outside of Hubbard there is several WRs that are projected in the neighborhood of where he is supposed to be drafted that could be a real value with the proper coaching. I think that we may have a great WR coach right under our nose and our receiving corp, with the right addition for a #2 WR, can be a huge surprise for us this year. http://www.buffalobills.com/team/coach.jsp?coach_id=15
  20. Ooh, I don't like that Josh Reed analogy. I forgot about him going to LSU. Could you imagine if we not only have one Josh Reed but instead we land up with two! Egad!
  21. That's my point. We don't need to be rushing out with our first pick for a WR. There will be plenty of good ones to choose from in the 2nd and 3rd rds.
  22. I can see a trade happening, based on Kelsay's production last year and Russ Brandon being, what an accountant last year? I think that the better move would be to make Kelsay the GM.
  23. LOL! That's hysterical! Where were you, at some bar getting plowed when this "trade" came about?
  24. Am I missing something here??? We are going to trade LOSMAN, a 2ND RD pick AND a 4th RD pick for Miami's 2ND RD pick ONLY??? WOW! We just went backwards if this is what you're saying.
