Rd 2, Pick 33: WR Keon Coleman, Florida State
dave mcbride replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall
The thing is, though, gabe davis, kelvin benjamin, and devin funchess aren’t guys who were ever capable of getting a roster spot on an historically elite D1 college basketball squad: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/keon-coleman-1.html. Something to factor in. -

Watching a little of his game now. He reminds me a little bit of Deandre Hopkins, actually. Hopkins ran a 4.57. -
Bills interested in Deebo Samuel per Mike Giardi
dave mcbride replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
Well, if it's for a pick this year, he better be restructuring right now because 7 pm is fast approaching. Something tells me that's not on his plate right now. Anyway, if there was any team that would do it (and I don't think they will), it should be NE, a receiver-less team with $53.7 million in cap space. -
Yup. Washington has to do something about their worst-in-the-league secondary/pass defense, so for me the obvious choice would be DeJean. They've spent so many high picks on d-line in recent times but to no real avail.
-
Totally agree with both of your posts. It just seems like a lot to give up to move up 3 slots. That said, maybe they have Cooper DeJean as their 15th ranked player overall (wouldn't surprise me), and given that Washington's secondary has been absolutely abysmal for the last three years (opposing QBs had a 105.7 collective passer rating against them last season!), maybe desperate times call for desperate measures. That to me would make some sense.

I can't see this happening at all. It's a terrible trade for Washington!

NE has $57.3 million in cap space and the Diggs example shows that it’s not a bad idea to get your new franchise qb a quality vet receiver. But as I said elsewhere, they don’t have a left tackle, and that seems more pressing to me. Only slightly, though, because their receivers are of course terrible. -
I assume you mean "good on not trading down again"?
-
I am definitely assuming Franklin at this point. I am a little averse to trading down because I don't want to risk it, but I'm not totally opposed. The teams needing WRs between 33 and 40 are the Chargers, the Pats, maybe Washington, and maybe TN. But the Pats also don't have a left tackle, which strikes me as a problem. And the Chargers defense was terrible last year. I can see them being all in on Dejean. So maybe we can move down a little and still get Franklin. At a certain point, though, they won't need any more picks. They have 6 between 33 and 144 and 8 between 33 and 163. After that, I assume that the talent falls off a cliff. Anyway, 8 picks is already a lot, so they need to start taking actual players.

Do You Like What Beane Did in the First Round?
dave mcbride replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall
Then they would have just traded with the cowboys or ravens, neither of whom were going to draft worthy. SF was the only threat. The Bills got a third by exploiting their worries. -

Aren’t they essentially hurting KC by forcing them to hand over their 3rd round pick to the bills in order to draft a guy they would have gotten anyway??? Asking for a friend. -

Seems like an obviously terrible decision from my perch. The fetishization of draft pick hording seems to be the driver — Beane can't quite get over the fourth tound comp designation for Edmunds and was hellbent on getting a third round pick. But jeez, don’t trade with KC. Hope I’m wrong. -

I actually get your point. But the fact that he paints his fingernails will have zero impact on his performance, I believe.🙂 -

That draft was long before and things can change. He had a season to go through and presumably felt that he had to show he still “had it.” -

Who cares? One of my good friends paints his fingernails and he’s an awesome human being. -

I would say that last year, he was under pressure to score on every drive because SC‘s defense was historically bad — as in 123rd out of 131 teams bad. So every drive became an act of desperation. The bigger question is the hiring of lincoln riley, who got a bajillion dollars to go there. But I’m ok with that because i am no fan of SC. -

Simon: I am a UCLA grad (grad school, but I can’t help but be a fan), so I have seen a fair bit. He is really good, and also everyone has the occasional bad game. I mean, he is a CONSENSUS #1 pick. So it’s not just me. -

Well, Russ is probably headed for the HOF based on 9 or so great seasons. But he’s in the nfc, so not my problem! -

Fair. But the trajectory looks very promising. Regardless, I hope you agree that he was clearly the best receiver on the field in the KC playoff game. If Chris Jones doesn’t bull Dion into Josh, he gets the potentially game winning TD on a great route.
