Dr. Z and Joel Buchsbaum were the best. What separates them from the good ones today is that it wasn't easy at all to get all of that film, and it required a ton of VHS taping (once VCRs came on the scene) and cajoling friends in other regions of the country to tape and send them games. They didn't have instant info via the internet at their hands. They did it the hard way. He called Jim Ritcher!

How so, specifically? -
Brian Dabol's Offense

Running or not running is HIGHLY dependent on the score of the game. What was the run pass ratio in each of the last two games while the games were still competitive? Until the Colts score was 14-0, the Bills ran it 8 times and passed it 8 times. Of the first 29 plays against the Pats, 14 were running plays and 15 passing plays. Outside of the first run by McCoy, most of the other runs did nothing. That rushing ratio is significantly above the league average. -

Brian Dabol's Offense

The offense has no strengths, especially when you consider that keying on a good RB is about the easiest thing in the world to do if you have no fear of either the QB, the receivers, or the pass blocking ability of the line. -

I've found the playcalling to be pretty solid myself. At no point this season have i found myself saying "wtf" to a set of play calls. Dennison elicited that from me many times. I think that the calls generally make sense. The problem has been the players, specifically those operating the QB position. -
Ed Oliver or Greg Little?

I'm generally for BPA (outside of QBs), but this is literally one of the worst offenses in league history. That has to be addressed. I am not concerned about McDermott running a competent D out there next season. I'm very concerned about a re-run of this season on offense. I'd go skill position (WR but possible a TE if an elite one is available) on offense given the disastrous lineup we have and get a center/guard/tackle set in rounds 2-5 (with a couple of defensive players mixed in given the extra fourth and fifth). They have seven picks in rounds 2-5. Decent guards can be had in round 4. -

He had a very good game receiving last night. That's the only way this miserable offense can get him in open space, as it happens. -
Brandon Beane deserves to be fired tomorrow

LOL. I wouldn't be surprised if he's swearing at McBeane now, yelling "I signed on to be the effing third string quarterback, NOT, the second string one!!" -

I'd bet a lot of money he figured he'd get to hold a clipboard for a cool near-million for about 3 months and then get back to the links. Disaster struck, however, when Peterman mistakenly thought that he had been traded mid-game to the Texans. -

I guess you could say that not taking Mahomes was a mistake (although 20/20 hindsight is a helluva drug), but it's way to soon to say that because we simply don't know how Allen will turn out. He is quite young and has already played more than Mahomes did in his first season. And Allen was already being pegged by many in spring 2017 as the #1 overall pick in 2018. He wasn't that, but he was certainly under consideration for that pick. Allegedly, the Browns' second choice was Allen, not Darnold. -

To be fair, the broad consensus in spring 2017 was that the 2018 QB draft was going to be a better one. It wasn't just the Bills who (apparently) believed that; most knowledgeable observers did. And when 2018 arrived, the Bills did move heaven and earth to get a guy who was already highly touted by many after the 2017 season as the most gifted QB in college football. Trust me: no one in America actually gives a flying f**k about remaining scattered Bills appearing to be happy in an uncompetitive Bills loss at 11 pm on a Monday night. -

Speaking of which, Anderson at the end of the game looked like a guy who wanted no part of playing NFL football ever again. -

His salary is average for a good defensive end, and he's in the upper echelon of RDEs in the league. -

The thing about the injuries is that almost every player in the NFL gets injured at some point. Nothing he had was debilitating long-term, and you can't let random events like injuries dominate how you project a player's future performance. Same can be said for Goodwin. Christ, Woods was playing with a torn groin and Hogan with torn ligaments in his wrist. Bills fans said Woods looked slow and that Hogan couldn't catch in their final seasons here. I'd say the same about Cordy Glenn now, who is playing quite well for Cincy (rated "above average" by PFF as of this week).

Well, it's way too soon to judge given that you need to see how the draft plays out. This draft looks to be pretty solid so far, and it's inarguable that the defensive pickups outside of Mr. Retire-at-Halftime have been pretty good. Star has been really good of late, and Phillips looks like a terrific pickup who just happened to be in Adam Gase's exceptionally large doghouse (a place that every Dolphin seems to eventually wind up in). It'll come down to Allen, and no one here has any idea how that'll end.
