  1. The Jets have an excellent, talented defense. I don't expect things to go well for the Bills offense.
  2. That's fine, and I get that. But there's a big difference between "not making the playoffs" and worst offense in league history. The scenario I presented assumed that he wouldn't restructure his one-year-and-one-year-only $16 million cap hit.
  3. John: I appreciate the good info (esp re Bridgewater); thanks. That said, they are on the road to having the worst offense in the history of DVOA measurements, which begins in 1986 (32 years ago). How could one not conclude that they bungled the QB position? They could have kept Taylor and had a qb cap hit totaling $20.3 million, which is not bad, and as you know cap money can always be moved around creatively. Sure, teams with good young qbs on rookie contracts have far lower hits, but the Bills aren't one of those teams at present. Teams with any decent vet are above that number (e.g. and randomly, the Redskins at $22 million), and while $16 million is too much for a solid backup (which is what Taylor is), the alternative is turning out to be pretty awful. Yeah, they acknowledged that they messed up, and I like that they did that. But they didn't have to be historic-level bad on offense: 32nd in points scored, 31st in turnovers given up, 32nd in collective passer rating, 32nd in net passing yards per attempt, 31st in INTs thrown, 32nd in points per drive, 31st in yards per play, 31st in yards, and a staggering -41 in passer rating differential vs. their opponent.
  4. It was the football equivalent of a classic Barry Brady/Dik Smub/Yvel Varm post - endless words spewing forth with hardly any substance.
  5. The Bills led the entire league in plays this weekend, running an astoundingly high 81 offensive plays (the Bears had 46 offensive plays). That is a LOT. Another fascinating stat: while their rushing ypc average was typically bad (3.5 ypc, a number goosed by Peterman's "chicken run" at the end of the half), it was actually better than the yards-per-pass-play average, which was 3.2. That is AWFUL (god, Peterman has to go). The Bills defensive yardage stats were also misleading because they gave nearly 100 penalty yards on two long PI plays that eventually led to scores. There was a ton of penalty yardage (292 yards total - christ!!) on both sides yesterday, marking the game as one of the worst played and most difficult-to-watch games I've seen in a while. It hit the trifecta: poorly played, over early due to a rout, and punctuated by a flood of officiating stoppages. I'd say it was a worse game than the infamous 6-3 Bills-Browns game from nearly a decade ago. That game was at least close.
  6. That defense finished 24th and 27th in D in his two seasons as measured by DVOA, which is a far better metric. It was second in the league (behind only Seattle) the year before he took over, and they finished 15th last season.
  7. Now THIS is a funny response!! ( @BADOLBILZ, @BillsVet @Kelly the Dog @Fadingpain @GunnerBill @ScottLaw)
  8. He's also the best receiver on the team--the only one capable of catching downfield passes with any regularity. I'm not saying he's good, by the way! It's a sad state of affairs.
  9. Could be. I can't recall the exact details.
  10. SHould have been 3 for Rodgers! (Remember the Gilmore drop in 2014?)
  11. Agree 100 percent. See Dog's post above.
  12. Ah, the ol’ eyeball metric. Now we know we’ve reached rock bottom. I’m out.
  13. At least *try* to answer the question using accepted statistical measures rather than cherry picking individual games!!! And when did I ask about the Browns?? Man. This board gets depressing.
  14. Technically, not a drop at all. It was a “pass defensed” - the db got his hand in right away right at the point of where the ball wound up in his hands and swatted it away. A better wr with stronger hands (boldin, watkins) hangs on, but most wrs in the league don’t make that catch.
  15. Quantify his terribleness using dvoa and other accepted metrics for judging qb and team offense play between 2015-17 (hint - raw passing yards ain’t one of them).
  16. Isn't the larger point that while SB aspirations are great and all, we're at the stage where we're wondering if they can get a td more than once every three games? Point being that SB aspirations as a lodestar is a purely theoretical exercise with a franchise that's this lousy. Things that get bad often stay bad. I would have taken Allen and kept Taylor, which they could have easily done.
  17. This is ridiculous. Why is he a bad person? If you don't have specifics that credibly show him to be a bad person (using a reasonably standard definition), you should retract that. You're thinking of 2002, not 03. Going into the final week, they were 7th in points, 10th in yards, and were at a league-record tying level for fewest turnovers. They finished 11th in both yards and points in 2002, so you're incorrect. Edit: in 2016, they finished 10th in offensive DVOA (if memory serves, they were at 6th or 7th before the final game). They finished 18th in offensive DVOA in 2002. People forget how bad that offense was in the second half of that season. Bledsoe had 8 tds, 10 ints, and a bunch of fumbles over the final 8 games of that year.
  18. The Bills offense in 2016 was their best offense this century through week 16 (Taylor didn't play in week 17). Not really the point at all, but carry on!
  19. Oh, absolutely. I will add (as I did earlier) that while his talents are meager, he is pretty good at escapabilty in the pocket.
  20. I will say that watching the NO receivers repeatedly win HARD contested catches, it can’t be argued that this WR corps doesn’t let all of the qbs down.
  21. One was in straight up garbage time, so he only gets credit for one by me.
  22. Yeah, see my post above. I am no kb fan, but i don’t know as if he’s capable of sharp cutting. He is not a “quicks” player.
