He dropped an even easier td pass vs NE that almost cost them the game (in the first matchup, which the bills barely eked out - 24-21). If he had caught that perfect throw, the bills would have led 28-21.

I truly believe that the Chargers would have won the SB in the 2006 season if not for Marlon McCree. That was arguably the luckiest Patriots postseason win ever, and I include the tuck rule game and the 2018 AFC championship game.

Glazer: Drew Brees officially retiring
dave mcbride replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, but acknowledge the good stuff too. He was an amazing player for a long time. It’s easy to kick an old player when he’s down. -
I entirely agree with your larger point, but Gabe Davis seemed to be regarded as a fourth rounder before the draft. The scouting profiles are all pretty similar: https://www.nfl.com/prospects/gabriel-davis/32194441-5632-9675-38f5-3e009da4e98e (this one gives a 4th round projection). Also: Mahomes is one of the three biggest stars (Brady and Rodgers are the other two) in what is by far and away the most popular spectator sport in America, and Sunday night’s game is likely to be the second-most watched event in America in 2021 (after the SB). I will be absolutely shocked if he doesn’t play, and I fully expect to see him out there.

I think it’s more that a qb feels he can’t put air under a deep throw because the wind will hold it up if it’s too high. Hence you have to throw those low-arc bombs that have to be super-accurate because the receiver has no chance to catch up to it. And it’s not as if Allen didn’t miss deep throws before. He really struggled last year and in the first half of this season with bomb accuracy.

Trent Murphy was worthy of the cap hit
dave mcbride replied to Max Fischer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This was my favorite article from last week, and it applies to Murphy, who I think has the athleticism to deal with Baltimore’s o-line maulers, who are the exact opposite (in terms of athletic profile) of Indy’s o-line: https://buffalonews.com/sports/bills/xs-and-os-column-task-for-bills-d-line-goes-from-dancing-bears-to-big/article_d2585aba-55d7-11eb-a0b3-4be0ffb75d3e.html “The Buffalo Bills faced the most athletic offensive line in the NFL last week. The Indianapolis Colts have a group of dancing bears. There’s an analytic measurement called RAS – the Relative Athletic Score. It puts draft prospects’ measurements (height, weight, 40 time, vertical jump, etc.) on a scale of zero to 10 in comparison with all the other players at his position. The Colts are a freak show. Four of their five starters are 9.4 or better, with tackle Braden Smith at 9.72 and guard Quenton Nelson at 9.67. This week the Bills face an entirely different animal. If you looked at the RAS numbers, you’d think the Ravens’ offensive line stinks. All five of their starters were below 5.0 entering the draft. Left tackle Orlando Brown is 0.7. Right tackle Tyre Phillips is 2.24. Left guard Bradley Bozeman is 1.19.” -

The End of the Lamar Jackson Era

I think he simply needs more good receivers he can trust, similar to Allen. Obviously, some of his ultra-reliance on a couple of guys is on him, but he is only 24 and can still develop in that regard. Anyway, you can win a championship with him, I think. He’s such a great runner and he’s a real competitor too. I mean, he is 30-7 as a starter with a lifetime passer rating of 102.6. Give him a little credit. -

No, that’s not right. He is a decent (not great, but decent) throwing qb and an elite runner. He’s not a bad throwing qb, but the offensive design limits him, at least in that phase of the game. -

So I watched Steve Smith on nfl network after the game, and while he was generally awful and seemed drunk, he stressed that they had to get rid of roman and replace him with an OC who ran a modern passing offense. He said that the routes the ravens’ receivers run are basically pop warner-simple. -
Harbaugh: “The wind was very impactful”
dave mcbride replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I dunno. It clearly impacted both teams. Both kickers missed two makable FGs and qbs for both teams badly overthrew wide open WRs for sure TDs. The wind did impact the game. -

He didn’t play well, but my god his center was a disaster. Got him injured too. -
If you haven’t read the piece, I suggest that you do. Easterby lied through his teeth to his colleagues in order to threaten them, and even made Kraft look good by lying about him (stupidly, because it was so easy to reveal that they were lies). He is straight out of central casting -- Grima Wormtongue crossed with Littlefinger, basically. I think he was responding to the SI piece that he knew was going to post imminently.

Blockbuster new SI piece: https://www.si.com/nfl/2021/01/16/texans-chaos-deshaun-watson-unhappy-how-jack-easterby-kept-his-job. if I’m Watson, I am doing whatever possible to get out of that looney bin punctuated by uncomfortable forced prayer group sessions. The owner is a moron under the sway of a fundamentalist Svengali. It’s a joke.

He is responsible for the most heart-ripping play the Bills have suffered this century: escaping from a sure sack and improvising a 40 yard play in OT that led to a Texans playoff victory. The qb has a lot more power in this situation than you think. The only position at which NFL players have anything resembling the juice of NBA players is the QB position, especially top ten franchise QBs. He can sit out a year, watch the Texans go 2-14, and then get a new deal for $40 million per. He’s young and that good.

What I expected all along. He is the right coach for Herbert.

Jaguars officially hire Urban Meyer as HC

He coached for 3 years with the Pats (1997-99). He got to the playoffs twice, won a playoff game, and never had a losing record there. -

Carroll doesn’t even count. He had success as an NFL head coach (multiple playoff appearances) before his USC job.
