Worth pointing out that their third down defense is bad too, 24th in the league (44 percent conversion rate). Weak performance on third down points to a relatively untalented roster - guys that can't win individual matchups on gotta have it plays.

Maybe teams are keying on the pass because they don't care about the Bills succeeding on first down runs due to the fact that matriculating the ball down the field in a 12 play drive is a rare outcome given the high potential that some drive-killing mistake will happen? If I'm a DC, I'm thinking, I'm gonna stop Josh Allen's arm first and foremost on 1st down and let James Cook get that occasional 7-8 yard pickup.

The funny thing about the Pats is that I think the best unit of their entire run, including the 16-0 season, was the 2010 team (14-2). In their final 8 games of the season, they scored 39, 31, 45, 45, 36, 31, 34, and 38 points (299 total; 37.5 on average) and allowed 125 points (15.6 on average). Also, teams they faced in that run included a really good Indy team Indy plus both SB teams: Pitt and GB. They lost to the Jets in the second game of the season (at Met Life) and somehow lost to them again in the playoffs at home despite beating them 45-3 five games prior. Just an utterly dominating team that had an inexplicably poor showing vs the Jets in the divisional round. I recall them being unstoppable and I remember that playoff game as if it were yesterday. I couldn't believe they lost because they were so much better than the Jets. It was certainly the highlight, by far, of Rex Ryan's career. Well, the second last season with Brady they won the SB and in the last season they started out 8-0. But yeah, it was a very diminished offense in 2019 because of Gronk's temporary retirement.

Also, the Pats are a real outlier. The better comps are Green Bay with Rodgers, NO with Brees, Pitt with Roethlisberger, and the Colts in 2001. After 2 playoff seasons and a decline in 2000 to 10-6, Indy went 6-10 in 2001. Their next three drafts landed Dwight Freeney, Larry Triplett, Robert Mathis, Dallas Clark, and Bob Sanders. Jake Scott was a good guard too. It got them over the top eventually because teams forced to pass late against them had to face a set of elite pass rushers.

Astros beat ‘em in the WS, but getting there is a thing in and of itself.

Saleh is smart enough to know he's terrible, and this just shows who is running the team. It ain't one of the coaches, that's for sure.

The offensive line is TERRIBLE. Literally a collection of non-talents. I don't know if you're aware of how poor the offensive line talent (and play) is on that team. Like, unbelievably bad.

Bob Lemon won a World series in 1978 after Billy Martin got fired (with a 52-42 record), but that's the best I can come up with. Nothing in the NFL.

The interview with Rich Eisen (above) is pretty interesting. He says midway through that from what he's hearing Rodgers and Adams have apparently talking literally every day. And he also brought up the two runs up the middle on 3rd and 4th down that got completely stoned, which may well have been Saleh saying "run it" and Rodgers becoming furious. It's a sh*tshow in a sense, but I can see Adams being more likely now than before.

They also were apparently all in on Mason Rudolph if they hadn't been able to get Allen ...

Question for you - when Daboll was here, the emphasis was on "windows" throwing to personnel with a demonstrated ability to separate -- i.e., to guys able to create big windows for Allen. Diggs was and is a phenomenal separator, and Beasley was excellent too. The year before they signed Sanders, he had the highest separation rate in the NFL (at NO) and historically had been great at it over the course of his career. Indeed, Beane had been trying to get him for a couple of years and wanted him in 2020. That system worked pretty well for the Bills. Outside of Shakir, the big slows they're rolling out now all struggle to separate, although I still can't explain Samuel in this system because he HAS been a separator in his career and is both fast and quick. MVS is fast but not a good receiver overall. Would you go back to that type of system if you could?

Without knowing anything, it does seem like the tea leaves are reading that way.

Oh, don't get me wrong -- it'd suck. My maybe baseless fear is that the Bills are way past due for a reversion to the mean on turnovers. The offense only has two and lead the league in that category, yet they have a qb who has a history of turning the ball over (especially vs the Jets D). From 2019-2023, Allen has thrown 8 INTs and fumbled it 7 times (losing it 4 times) at Met Life. That's 2.4 turnovers a game for him there. It's a pattern. EDIT: The Bills have only two turnovers in their last seven games including the playoffs last year. That's great, but it also strikes me as unsustainable.

The Jets D is currently 5th in points allowed, 2nd in yards allowed, 1st in net yards per passing attempt allowed, and second in yards per drive. They're not the problem.
