  1. Not sure that's true. Mitt was never a social issues candidate. He completely de-emphasized that throughout his campaign and tried to focus on the economy and in the later stages also foreign policy. He made zero in-roads with any Obama base constituency. The Dem base is solidly Dem--the Reps need to find an issue to divide that base if they want to make inroads. Reagan did it in welcoming the religious right out of the traditional Dem South. The current Rep party needs to find an issue they can live with if they want a chance.
  2. Be cool with the sour grapes. Even Mitt's most ardent supporters acknowledge his changing positions on many issues. Mitt was a political animal and that was pretty well exposed by the Obama campaign. I voted for him because he seemed pretty focused on the economy and didn't push the social aspects of the right wing agenda. When Obama switched on gay marriage (or more likely, actually expressed his true opinion), many here thought it was a stupid political move. In the end, it probably didn't move the needle at all.
  3. Pretty sure that is "the" Marc Miller.
  4. Well, I think Rubio could shift his immigration stance and build one hell of a groundswell. He's got a lot of charisma and is a bright guy. I doubt he'd move on social issues but if he ran like Romney and just kept them in the background, I could see him doing it. But he'd have to come around some. Ryan might be the wrong "other guy" but we are a long ways out. Christie is not a contender, I wouldn't think. Way too Northeastern. I don't see his appeal on a national stage.
  5. What does this even mean?
  6. IT hasn't been that long since this hijacking. Reagan is the cause of this woe. He created the big tent and turned the Dem South into Republican-lovers. It was a savvy political move to join the evangelical right to the conservative movement--creating a voting bloc to combat the left. But it's an uneasy union and now just plain can't win. It worked for Bush Jr., but the right definitely has an identity crisis.
  7. Clean sweep on the ballots this time around. 3 states approve it--one state rejects a ballot initiative not to ban it. The Rep spin is that the wins were only possible in Dem-dominated states and there, only by slim margins. But the truth of the issue is that the tide is and will continue to turn. The Republicans, in their regrouping from this ass-kicking presidential loss, might want to rethink how to appeal to the social moderates like me who are fiscally conservative. I voted for Mitt but with my nose held on issues like this and immigration. The young guns like Rubio and Ryan should go home and rethink their positions for 2016 if they want to have a chance. The Right can either go more liberal on money (spread the wealth) or social issues. One way or another, they can't just retrench and hope for the big turnout. This electorate did not like Obama and he still trounced Romney.
  8. Yeah, the Rasmussen lovers have to look at themselves today and understand that they were blinded by optimism. There will be another Rasmussen in 4 years telling people what they want to hear too.
  9. They need to get back to the table and do a debt deal. But Obama has the upper hand now.
  10. Silver called every state. D+6 is close to right according to Fox last night. Didn't check this morning. Obama improved his record among Hispanic voters. Gay marriage initiatives passing. Did I miss anything OC? Just busting your balls. At least you can take it. Time to revise your model.
  11. Hate the polls all you want but Silver went 50 for 50. And RCP, which is just an average, also went 50 for 50.
  12. "Obama ain't winning FL." OCinBuffalo.
  13. Well, there you go turning up the stupid. If someone would go true fiscally responsible small government and shake off the religious right, they could build a sizable coalition.
  14. The good news is this election won't be going to the courts. Just a straight ass kickin'.
  15. Nah. I asked him that before.
  16. Florida was always a must win for Romney, and he never took charge there. It's why I thought he could not take the election all along. Obama could have lost Florida and still won.
  17. Why is that? I'd rather my projection was wrong and the guy I voted for won, but it's not going to happen. Obama is coasting to a win.
  18. Watch CNN. They are breaking it down by county. Majority of outstanding votes are in dem areas.
  19. It's a blowout. Fox News commentators are downright depressed. They know the truth.
  20. Even Fox is giving up. Florida is going to Obama. I think my 311 to 227 projection looks good.
  21. Please. No one looked at my sig. And even if they had, it was sitting on the page right next to my signature line so it's not like I couldn't do a quick copy that would be close enough. If that's your polling place, not much chance you're voting for Romney.
  22. Same here except no Charlie Dent in my district.
  23. We have enough trolling morons here. We don't need a self-identified time waster.
