No more naked pictures at the airport
John Adams replied to Fezmid's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Sounds like you were the lemming then. You don't have to go through the scanner. And again, who cares? Do you mind the metal detector? The pat down? The background check? Luggage scan? This is just the latest technology for this stuff. Now, that it may not actually work...on that point I have no response other than the government is !@#$ed. -

Don't like it, opt out of the scan. Big deal. No one was forced to go into the scanner, which in itself makes them a bit idiotic but that's different. -

When was the last time that things were good?

Based on? Infant abandonment was a common practice among Roman family units. Their society was strong. -

BTW, what is Charlie Sheen's opinion on guns? And Madonna's? Also want to know Billy Idol's thoughts. Any idea how the debt ceiling and budget talks are going? Slightly bigger issue. -

Pre 60s USA was great. So long as you were a white male. -
Seau brain was damaged (CTE), family sues NFL
John Adams replied to dayman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The problem isn't concussions anymore. It's the head hits of any kind. Blocking. Arm blows. Ground contact. The cumulative effect of the blows causes damage, and it can be serious. Parent shouldn't be letting kids play contact football. Way too dangerous long term consequences. -
so, anybody else get boned by Obama
John Adams replied to dib's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
SS started in 1937, a decade before even the oldest boomers were born and a good 25 or so years before the first boomer made his first SS payment. It was your parents who were the first people who paid into SS for their entire life. -

SS age should be pushed to something like 72. Even if I accept the program (I don't), the purpose of SS was never to supplement people's retirement. It was to help people who could no longer work at the end of their lives. -

Harbaugh. Carroll. Bill Walsh. -
Not the point but you miss the point often. We spend a boatload of money prolonging lives that are over instead of helping people die with dignity. This isn't a debate over giving an older person their hormone replacement drug or blood pressure meds.

Bills hire Doug Marrone to be Head Coach
John Adams replied to sven233's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed but if he lets people do their job, I'm OK. I assume others like Whaley were in on this decision. The way I look at it, this team needs both a football guy AND severely new fresh blood to change culture. Marrone has the fresh blood, strong WNY ties, and has some record of turnaround with minimal talent at Cuse. That's a big plus. I don't think you need a football guy as president. If Brandon is a business man and good marketer, he knows what the business needs to do to succeed: Win. -

I love the Bronx thing too. That will play well in Buffalo. Only time will tell if this is a good hire but given the choices of him, Lovie, or Whiz, this is the one with the biggest upside to change the culture. -

Who makes a better guy to root for...the AZ Card coach? The guy who couldn't win in Chicago with all that talent? Wiz and Lovie are proven zeroes. I will take Marrone. That program sucked when he arrived and despite a lack of talent at Cuse, he won. Look at Nassib video...he was a record setting QB with limited weapons. It's definitely a dice roll but here's a guy who wants to be Bills coach and has been in WNY for a few years. Blls fans can be skeptical, but I'm a bit shocked to not find us rooting for a guy like this. It would be a great story...guy rebuilds awful WNY football college team, then goes on to Bills etc. If you're bummed they didn't land Cowher or Gruden or Kelly, get over it. They were never coming. This came down to a bunch of also-ran retreads vs a guy with new blood. -
Perhaps misstated by me. Still, "One out of every four Medicare dollars, more than $125 billion, is spent on services for the 5% of beneficiaries in their last year of life. Yet even with Medicare or private insurance, you're likely to face a big bill: A recent Mount Sinai School of Medicine study found that out-of-pocket expenses for Medicare recipients during the five years before their death averaged about $39,000 for individuals, $51,000 for couples, and up to $66,000 for people with long-term illnesses like Alzheimer's." http://money.cnn.com/2012/12/11/pf/end-of-life-care-duplicate-2.moneymag/index.html ""We end up spending about a third of our overall health care resources in the last year of life," Bergman said. "It represents a huge avenue for improvement." http://www.reuters.com/article/2010/10/14/us-care-costs-idUSTRE69C3KY20101014 Pretty staggering waste of money right there. We are spending gazillions on people who are about to die. As some said above, we need to get a lot better as hospice and letting people die with dignity, and not shot through with tubes.
-
We can/t afford it. So you set a limit for how much care you can get past a certain age. Seriously, we need to get better at letting people die with dignity. I don't see a pretty way out of it but we spend way too much time and money fighting death, especially at the end of life. If you're 85 and on your second bout of cancer in 3 years, it's time, not for a surgical intervention, but to allow yourself/loved one to pass.
-
And I'll tack on that we need to get better at letting people die. The vast majority of healthcare costs are spent in the last 2 years of someone's life. What the !@#$ sense is that?

What Treasury is doing in order to gain the two months is not kicking the can down the road. "Kicking the can down the road" is what is being done when the Congress enacts sweeping cuts...that take place in 10 years...and a future Congress has to enact.
-
There is no deal. This just puts off sequestration for 2 months. Are there any cuts? Doesn't seem like it. Just another raise taxes and kick the can down the road bill. Absolute idiocy on all sides.
-
Be nice if you knew what you were talking about. Biden did more to get a deal done last time around than anyone...but Cantor would not give an inch like a 5 year old who won't share his Lincoln Logs. Now here we are cramming a deal in at the 11th hour like a high school student studying for the big test at recess. It's a failure of leadership by all, and an embarrassment for everyone. I desperately want the fiscal cliff.
-
Your expectation is that only the left should rise above idiocy but the right is excused. Stupid is as stupid does.
