Who Can Piss the Farthest...?
John Adams replied to Keukasmallies's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
So it was his idea. So the Reps agreed to it. Frankly it was a really freaking good idea. If they hadn't set up sequestration, there'd be no cuts at all! If he was smart, he'd pull a judo move and congratulate himself. -
Who Can Piss the Farthest...?

It's not fair to pin this all on Obama. Tons of Republicans refused to budge on defense cuts. Both sides refused to dance. I'll say this about Boehner: He was willing to fight his own party at least. Obama did in 2010 but then caved. -
Who Can Piss the Farthest...?
John Adams replied to Keukasmallies's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Blaming the other side for the sequester is idiotic. They both agreed to it. They both couldn't get deals done to avoid it. Now it's here. Maybe they should both STFU and choke it down. Apologize to the American public. Etc. The only bad thing about the Woodard book is that it ended before all these chapters played out. -
Reminds me of the Philly mayoral race 10 years ago or so. John Street (Dem career politician) was running against Rep Sam Katz (local businessman). Street was losing by in the polls with just a few weeks to go. Then the Street people find a listening device (bug) in their office and accuse the Katz campaign of dirty tricks. The Katz people deny and the FBI admits that the bug is theirs, and they were investigating the Street administration of payola schemes and the like. In the very next set of polls, Street had the lead and went on to an easy 16 point win. After the bug surfaced, the Street campaign turned up the institutional racism rhetoric to a fever pitch. It was surreal. Documentary description sums it up well. http://en.wikipedia....Shame_of_a_City The only good news is that Street was so scummy that when his second term expired, Philly elected a guy with a pretty solid reputation for honesty and reform, Michael Nutter, the current mayor.

Who Can Piss the Farthest...?
John Adams replied to Keukasmallies's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It's interesting that the party leadership is ratcheting up the rhetoric so much. To me, that means they are ready to let the sequestration kick in. Talking is over and both sides seem to have accepted that it's time to swallow the poison. Finally. -
New York to ban youth football?
John Adams replied to Just in Atlanta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How about the studies re accumulation of smaller hits having a relationship to CTE? That's the football issue. To all the backyard players, your head was not getting slapped knocked and rung play after play so its really not relevant to the discussion. (Don't think this issue should be legislated. Do think that parents should steer their kids away from tackle football.) -
Brain damage and injuries.

Well, among those sports, I'd guess wrestling stays on.

The architecture thing is easy to overcome. You just make it optional. Some teams would do it and have certain home field advantages. Baseball and soccer fields have no uniform sizes.

Solar energy has a "Dirty" little secret
John Adams replied to Gary M's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
What's the lie? It's still much cleaner than fossil fuels. Over a 20 year life cycle for a panel, it's not even close. And...it remains a developing technology. Solar/wind/tidal power are all in development and important technologies for the future. -
They are not the same size even remotely. They look alike in that they are in dark suits and have white shirts. Otherwise, they don't look that alike. Maybe they have high cheekbones?

The nice thing about America done right is that Whole Foods can choose to run its business however it wants to. I shop at a local co op but Whole Foods was a good option before the two co ops came online. And no, Whole Foods is not the same as the local Tops Acme Piggly Wiggly.

The Drones Are Here
John Adams replied to ICanSleepWhenI'mDead's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I am enjoying this. I'd just like to note that TYTT bragged that his credentials were as...an industrial engineer. For anyone hip to science and engineering, that's excellent. I've never heard of anyone bragging about being an industrial engineer. Those guys carry the jocks of the junior varsity engineers: the civil engineers. Jesus. Industrial Engineers arguing structural engineering. Next TPS will post a paper about genome sequencing. -

TYTT, did OJ do it? -
The Drones Are Here
John Adams replied to ICanSleepWhenI'mDead's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It doesn't add up because there is not a wealth of data about how hundred plus story buildings fall when hit by jets. You can find holes in every story OJ juror, but at some point, most rational people arrive at a reasoned conclusion based on the evidence presented. Oswald acted alone. OJ was guilty. Bonds used steroids. 9-11 was not a government plot or coverup. -

Agreed. They throw in a couple 80s fashion nods but mostly dress and style everyone pretty modern. 95% of the era setting is spent on cars. I'm OK with it. I like the premise a lot. Def in for a few more episodes.

The Drones Are Here
John Adams replied to ICanSleepWhenI'mDead's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Advance the clock 10 years and your drones are the size of flies and the price of a can of coke. They will be all over in the future, and not just the government's. That age old question of privacy vs safety. If you're a parent, would you want to see if your kid is safe all the hours they are not with you? Or would you want their privacy protected at the risk to their well being? Not the easiest question. (This ignores the Ashley Madison aspects of bugs.) -
Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome
John Adams replied to Just Jack's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Hope it's more like BG, less like Caprica. -
On a much better team, Flacco is not a lot better than Fitz. 20 mil, no thanks.

I've never been given points (don't even know what that means but I guess I'd know if I got one) and have no to little idea how moderation works. That said, I wouldn't think "good moderation" included the moderators getting involved in slapfights with other posters on the PPP board. Again, get a room and work it out. This thread is making everyone look pathetic.
