Can't discharge federal loans in bankruptcy.

If it's a state loan, I would tie it to state schools. If I'm loaning PA kids money to go to school, I want them in the state school system to increase the chance they stay in state and to ensure the money I've lent stays in state. A few other ideas to reduce the cost of school: (1) Reduce the cost of internet classes dramatically. Right now, you pay the same to attend a lecture class as you do to watch a video of the lecture and take the class online. That makes no sense. If you set up the Internet class with X email questions and X hours of office hours (via skype), then the Internet class should cost substantially less. But universities don't recognize this (besides pure online universities). (2) Better yet, reuse lectures by just making them available online...nothing new is happening in Calc I, intro to Shakespeare, or German II. Save prof time and $$ by just hitting play on the lectures. (3) Stop building 8 court gym facilities and dance halls and other crap. Universities are engaged in a MADD race to outspend.

Egypt elects (let's use that term loosely but still) a president. They give him 1 year and now B word that things aren't better. Let's all appreciate our peaceful power transitions for a moment and hope the next election is a fairer one than the last. Once Ramadan starts, this thing may simmer down.

The tough climb is that the fiance will need to hang out with, be around, and need to be kind to the woman he cheated with. And on top of that be a caring and unconditionally loving mother to his child. All that is non negotiable. And you calling the mother of his child a skank shows your lack of understanding here. The name calling ends the second a child is involved. Now they all need to focus on the kid.

I'm going to go ahead and not get into pronoun confusion. Granted, I read only your posts in the last 4 pages so maybe someone already said this but how would you have no communication with the mother of your child? Unless you are abandoning it? Assuming it's yours and assuming she's even pregnant and not just a psycho, you have no choice but to be in some relationship with the mother. Not live-in relationship but you have to talk to her often and do everything you can to get along with her even if she's driving you crazy. If she moves away with the kid, you need to find a way to move to where she is. Basically, you're tied to the child (and mother) for life. When you have a kid, your life is only partially your own and both you and your fiance need to get used to that. Your girlfriend will have to come to grips with this eventually for you to keep her around but I guess you know that. And if you don't think she will treat your child with the hugest most open heart, she's got to go. If she's going to resent your child or treat it poorly, which would be only human mind you, you can't be with her. That's a terrible thing to do to a child--to put them between you and someone you love--so get rid of the adult involved if the adult won't treat the baby with complete love, and the baby's mother, with civility and kindness. Pretty black and white to me. But get the paternity test before embarking on this road. Finding out you're the father of a child will be great news. So will the opposite.

Meat and potatoes won't kill you. Chemicals will. Have a steak. Wash it down with water or seltzer mixed with a squirt of OJ. I eat red meat 1-2 times a week. The others chicken and fish, occasionally a homemade veggie burger. Enjoy your brat too, with kraut and mustard...skip the bread though.

It is poison and it's everyone's poison. Who can eat one Dorito? One Pringle? The trick is not to buy them, ie, make it hard to get them. When that crap is in my house, like after we host a party, of course I eat it. One not bad substitute are nuts, and many these days have flavors (stay away from ingredients that you can't find on a tree or in a garden). There's no way not to want to eat chips and Ben and Jerry's when it's around if you're hungry. Give your will a break and leave it at the store but give your cravings something and make it nuts and all natural frozen fruit bars or something.

Sorry, I can't bring myself to give enough of a **** to continue this discussion.

Isn't the difference that one holds herself out as moral center/wholesome and the other is already a known douche? I mean: What's a better story? That Randy Moss is found with a needle in his arm? Or Tom Brady?

Urabanization brings the Oreos and processed food, not good poultry. The problem isn't the chicken. It's the chemicals. The best of the eating solutions that I've heard (hate to call it a diet even though that's the right word, not in the sense of "losing wight diet" but more in the sense of "here's what's good to eat diet") is the Paleo diet. AKA the Caveman diet. You eat no processed food and only those things that humans were eating evolutionarily, i.e., meat, veggies, fruits. No grains. No dairy. Besides losing weight, it's been shown to help in inflammation-related problems like allergies, sinus infections, skin infections like rosacea, and many other things. The test they propose is: try it for 30 days--with no cheating--and see how you feel. Then slowly reintroduce certain things. For me, I found that when I started back on dairy, I immediately developed sinus issues again...and they flare up if I eat dairy more than a couple days in a row. (I'm not an a-hole: I still eat cheese and ice cream sometimes!). When I reintroduced legumes (beans), I had no issues. My wife's rosacea went away for the first time in 15 years of trying everything...when she has wheat, it comes back in a flash. The 30 day thing was enlightening. The most accessible book on topic is by Rob Wolff. The Paleo Solution. He's also got a good podcast. Just because we're on foods and health, one of the most fun books I read on it is The Four Hour Body. Tim Ferris is a bit of an Internet legend at this point but he basically used his body as a science lab and tried everything (every exercise, drug, diet, sex technique) known to man and reports the results.

From the article One Comment Another Those are not the angriest. I just wonder how to both acknowledge that it's a willpower issue while also helping people keep their will up and not being harsh.

Hara hachi bu or translated into English, "Eat until you're 80% full." That's a Japanese saying. Another that I just read confirming the pronunciation of that saying is "eight parts of a full stomach sustain the man; the other two sustain the doctor." Reading the comments on that article is eye opening. A lot of people are furious at the author.

Willpower is always hard. Ice cream never tastes bad, tired or not.

Obesity continues to be a problem that plagues the US. Not sure if her tough love is better than the accept everyone approach.

The History of Rome podcast is one of the greatest free history lessons you will ever hear. Rome from inception through downfall in 20 minute increments. Interesting, funny, insightful. Coffee Break French/Spanish/German is better than Rosetta Stone for learning language and a pittance of the cost.

There are still people here who think OJ deserves to be paid tribute at every Bills home game. Most were eager to forgive Vick and pay him $100M and cheer him in a game. It's not hard to fathom people's stupidity when it comes to sports. Though I'm betting the "innocent" chanters were just hoping to get on TV.

Gay marriage decision coming soon
John Adams replied to John Adams's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The 10th amendment died a looooong time ago son. Call something a commerce clause issue and the fed govt can control it. And relax. This issue is way over. Gay marriage is a done deal. This case didn't contribute to the erosion of states rights any more than a drop of water forms a river. -
Yesterday, Court Bad.... Today, Court Good
John Adams replied to B-Large's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Except...the guys who claim to be for states rights all dissented, Scalia even invoked states rights in his dissent. "So convenient a thing to be a reasonable creature, since it enables one to find or make a reason for every thing one has a mind to do." -
Yesterday, Court Bad.... Today, Court Good
John Adams replied to B-Large's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Most jurists are activist in some way. The right just happened to get ahold of the term that stuck first. Scalia has his own activism, depending on the issue. -
My guess is that the court doesn't split on this. The right wing justices don't want to be on what is clearly the wrong side of this debate and will strike down prop 8, maybe agreeing in some concurring opinion that dances around procedurally to reach that conclusion. When prop 8 passed in 2008, only 2 states permitted gay marriage. Now it's 12 and DC. Back in 2008, a lot of people thought this was a stupid political move to force this issue and that the American people were going to entrench and this would all set gay marriage back.

I may be faithless but my religious wife works hospice, and believes that both doctors and families screw this decision up all the time, costing tons of money (not her concern because she's as socialist as EII, wacka, and 3rd) and disrespecting their quality of life. People keep saying we can't deny care. Here's the problem: If you don't deny care somewhere, the system will break this country. The socialized medicine you are all so eager for is not sustainable. What I'm saying is that we need to deny care somewhere, and the 25% of medicare money that is going to end of life care is at least one area we can look at. But EII and 3d and their ilk won't budge--they want us to keep spending, common sense be damned. And that's the heart of the matter. No one ever wants to say "no mas." By the way, if you have faith, shouldn't you be more willing to die? Not seek it out necessarily, but be more OK with the next step? -
