  1. There should be a rule where a kids coach isn't a douche. It's simple really.
  2. Penn State was suing the NCAA over the wins. Wins >>>>> the coverup culture.
  3. It was the NCAA trying to actually dole out a punishment perhaps within its control. Penn State wasn't doing it and instead of accepting at least some punishment, actually fought it. No love for the NCAA but hard to make them out the supervillian here. The worst guy is behind bars. The rest of the culture is pretty much unchanged. Imagine if PSU had said, "You know what? We're a school first and foremost. This culture we created that allowed our football coaches and administrators to think it was OK to cover up for a serial molester is an abomination. We're going to shut down football and focus on being a school. Sorry to the couple years of kids who are playing football right now but we'll help you land in other football programs." Crazy, I know. Football first is the critical thing. WE ARE etc. Undoubtedly next up: Returning Paterno's statue to a prominent place.
  4. Looks like JoePa gets his wins back. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/12179571/joe-paterno-111-wins-were-vacated-restored I am sure the PSU people are happy to have the wins back because football and winning is more important than covering up molesters and fostering an atmosphere where this kind of thing happens. I can't believe they had the gall to sue the NCAA instead of owning the problem with the "School" and accepting the punishment. PU remains a stain on football.
  5. Anyone have Nate Silver's prediction on the candidate field?
  6. Sorry to go full B-Man on this discussion. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2015-01-07/islamic-leaders-condemn-paris-attack-some-warn-against-backlash.html
  7. Do you doubt my assumption? My out of town friends who come to Bills games take photos of the honor you support giving OJ in disbelief. The NFL doesn't show that part of the stadium to shield themselves from letters because it's so embarrassing for Buffalo. If you vote yes, you celebrate honoring OJ. He played a role in the Bills success before his media hype, yes. That can never be taken away. But having his name still up there celebrates him NOW. Why you want to do that is beyond me. Take it down and you get 5 articles and a few thousand emails, and not one season ticket cancelation. Not one lasting legacy problem. Leave it up and every week, you see the embarrassing stain of him being honored. Hopefully in April, Pegula orders a cleaning of the ring, takes all of the names down, and one less returns.
  8. The pussification of America is less evident in your story of the moms than in men who watch House Hunters.
  9. These sorts of laws don't affect behavior much, which is a good thing.
  10. My town has all sorts of limits on where kids can skateboard for the same reason as sledding. Doesn't seem to make much difference. Kids can still have fun where they want. This is like leash law enforcement at the neighborhood park. The signs will go up. There will be one weekend where a poor cop has to go tell people not to sled...and then everyone will keep sledding.
  11. I would love it if this were a national poll. Anyone voting for OJ to remain would be doing it just to be absurd. Only Bills fans would want to keep paying tribute to OJ. Everyone else in the world recognizes how embarrassing this is.
  12. Put a 3 foot diameter circle just outside the goal post. If you hit it, it's worth 5 points and the mascot gets dropped into a dunk tank.
  13. To those bemoaning the "slippery slope," when the next person on the wall comes close to OJ's infamy, we can have a heated debate about it. The new stadium clearly gets no OJ. But there's no reason for him to be there now. Not for a loooooooong time. What he did as a player is impressive and was good for the team THEN. There's no need for the fans to still give him praise.
  14. Sure you can. You can't take away their freedom for being found not guilty but you can remove a complete honorific. His name is a stain on Buffalo. That it's up is an embarrassment to the organization. Other fans are incredulous to see it. It's more than time. For now we can just stick with one of the most notorious criminals deserves no place on the wall. Or how about "one of the most notorious wife beaters who we all know is a double murderer." Hahaha. You don't have to be found guilty (of one crime BTW) to be unwrothy of being praised by a community. I hope the Pegulas do the right thing. It must pain them to see that name up there.
  15. Who was that guy? I love people who make giant sweeping declarations on here. There's no way that worked out. That was awesomely senseless but I liked his moxy.
  16. Polian turned his back on being a 72 year old executive who had a lot of work to do to build a team for the future. Polian thought the Bills were in good shape with Orton and Marrone (this alone is a red flag!). Once they left, he didn't want to do all the work involved in building a team. That's all he said. Who cares? I'd rather have a guy who will be around for a while. Polian at best was going to be president for 4 years. Who needs that?
  17. OK. Let's have the productive conversation you want. He indicted the Catholic "organization," whatever the f^&% that means. I assumed that would mean the church leadership, who I would put as its priests and nuns (over a million) and its organized lay personnel, who number in the millions. Nes pa? Or do you need more details? This hijack definitely added a lot to the thread. Thank you for making sure this vital contribution to the board occurred.
  18. In 2 healthy seasons, he was not as good as Orton was this past year.
  19. Not even as good as Orton.
  20. This is a productive conversation isn't it?
  21. His timing is awful. At the same time, he's currently the victim of our need to constantly have someone to vilify. The next person up for public shaming is Scalise. Like DeBlasio, he did something wrong. But the moral indignation and outrage that is about to rise up will be disproportionate to what he did. See Rick Perry's hunting cabin. Mitt Romney's dog. Michelle Obama's "bring back our girls" tweet. I've not seen it discussed here but DeBlasio tried to straddle a line on not wanting to incite public flames (ala Ferguson) by making his comments. After some of the terrible behavior in Ferguson, he was probably trying to be careful not to rise the general public's ire. Annnnnnnnnnd...he failed miserably. Still, all the soundbites are of 3 sentences and not the many things he's said in support of the police because those 3 sentences are delicious red meat and when he just sings the praises of police, it's boring.
  22. Nope. That's why I didn't say a few hundred million Mr. Petty.
  23. When you paint a few million people into one stereotype, you can even get me to defend the Catholic Church. And the point of this thread is that Francis is someone working towards a better church, which is to commended. He may not be perfect but he's a helluva lot more in touch than his predecessors.
  24. That's one of the worst statistical refutations I've ever seen. Your numbers include "arrest-related suicide" (which I can only assume is that as the cop is arresting you, you off yourself--apparently this is a white guy thing to do from your numbers since honkeys do this 4x as often as brothers) and "arrest-related death by intoxication" (which I don't know WTF that is). To make that statement public at this time--was terrible public timing. But still: Talk about overreaction. We so crave someone to beat on.
  25. Newsflash: If you're black, it's more dangerous. I doubt any rational person would disagree with that. I don't fault the police for being biased--that's what keeps them alive most days. The 50 year old white lady walking her dog in the park is not likely to pull out a gun and shoot someone. The black kid in the hoodie is also not likely to do it...but the probability increases. Thanks for the additional quotes. Totally agree that his timing is crap. But this also seems like one of those instances where the rush to judgment has turned into a lemming avalanche. De Blasio is today's tar and feather victim.
