President Bush's Performance Tonight
John Adams replied to Chilly's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I cannot... cannot believe his idea is to cut benefits to those who pay the most into the system. He is an MFing socialist CKsucker of the highest degree. Not one registered Republican should sleep well tonight. -
Mine was a joke... that the pile of cash was "320... I mean 300 million, sir. All 300 million accounted for. I *thought* there was 320, but I was wrong. " If I stumbled on 320 million in blood money, what would I do? I don't smoke, but I would sit down on that enormous throne of money, and have a long contemplative smoke.

Spendy McSpend: you are the poster child Republican, without a doubt.

Bush expanding energy policy proposals
John Adams replied to todd's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Apologies for being lazy with my words. Tide/wave power is what I meant. And of course, like wind power, it is limited to certain geography. -

I like tidal power more than wind power- much more reliable. There's a lot of ocean, and as long as there's a moon, we'll have tides. My dad has a house on the Canadian side of Lake Erie and has wanted to install a windmill for a long time, but you guessed it, the regulatory hurdles (in crunchy Canada for god's sake) are such that it's not worth it. Now, he may jump through all their hoops just because he's a hippy at heart, and wants to rely on wind power, but for the normal guy, it's not worth it. -
Do the Feds know about that 2 billion? Watch out Alaska- here comes Washington.

Dan Brown, Da Vinci Code, Catholicism
John Adams replied to PTS's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
We await your insight. I took the time to mock some of the post you're slobbering over. You replied to me with "Wow." Don't expect me to debate with you when your only response is an monosyllabic horizontally-reversible pallindrome, Grant. -

Do you have something to contribute to this thread? Or are you just going to quote other people? Don't get me wrong. I like this thread a lot. It's one of the more amusing things ever discussed on TSW or PPP, but I'm just wondering if you're here to add something. -

We couldn't be further behind on nukular power than we are now. ALL the good technology in nuke power is out of this country. Good article about nucular power in a Wired within the last 2-3 months. Voila- here is said article -
Dan Brown, Da Vinci Code, Catholicism

This thread's still alive? Yippee. My favorite quote from within the quote you so love is this. Uhhh yeah. No spit. That's why he had to fill the gaping holes between the facts with the crap he made up. Again. Fik-shun. Does he have an agenda? Probably. Do I care? Not really- doesn't everyone? Graham Greene, one of the greatest novelists of the 20th century- and a Catholic- had many agendas. I read his books because they are good, and I understand the agenda. And, like most people, I recognize that the books are fiction. You know what else sells well? The Cat in the Hat. That book mocks us all- tries to use facts to convince us that cats can talk. But it *is* based on reality. Cats are real. Hats are real. Cats IN hats are possible. Dr. Suess conspiracists unite. Are there really Whos in Whoville? Anyone seen a Sneetch? Where is my moss covered three handled family credenza anyway? -
Miami players are pretty good pros, no? As to the people whining about the line, here's a clue. First year lineman SUCK. If the need for OL help is dire, it will be addressed in free agency.

Stay on target Red Leader. We're talking about Delay in this thread.

There are plenty of routes through Jesus that espouse the principles he lists.

Bobble. I take some joy in internet flame wars, but was not trying to start one. Your statement, "But at the same time, I have some strong, unflappable views on bigotry and simple human decency that I believe go against the doctrines of the major religions today," is either an indictment of major religions as bigoted or an admission that you are bigoted. I assume you meant the former, but I'm not sure. If you're saying that major religions are bigoted and against simple human decency, that's a helluva claim. If there's a third way to interpret your statement, I'm all ears.
-
You're saying that either (a) you are a bigot, or (b) major religions are bigoted. Either way, that's cause for his emoticon.

This is enough to make me turn Democrat!

Fantastic class warfare post! Rich people= evil; poor people = good. Right. -
The Internet is fun.
-
He is simply insane, and just plain frightening. It makes me wonder how many Republicans think like him but have better control over their vocal cords. Some flag-bearer for the right. The Internet thing is shocking; what an ass. Even Limbaugh must be contorting to defend this guy.

I agree. And I bet that the high percentage of those who take communion don't believe that they are consuming the actual body and blood of Jesus. Do you agree? I know a lot of Catholics, and not one of them buys transubstantiation. When Fr. Jack brought it up in high school, he was laughed out of the room. He couldn't even convince a room full of Catholic teens to believe in transubstantiation. (He REALLY coudn't sell that masturbation was a sin, but we were wary to laugh- what with our teenage insecurities and all.)
-
Transubstantiation is one of the remnants of my Catholic school education that rattles around when I start talking to American Catholics. There can't be 5% of Catholic Americans who believe this fundamental belief.
-
Good comparison. Except for the fact that the American democrtatic system allows for, accepts, and encourages dissent. Are birth control, divorce, and (egads!) masturbation currently up for a vote in the Catholic Church? The Church is inflexible- for good reason- but to compare it to the American electoral system is absurd. Did you not just see a hundred men file in to determine the Pope? Not exactly Democracy in action, Jack. Try another analogy. And if your belief is so simplistic that "you practice Catholicism because you believe in God," you understand little about your own faith.
-
You won't get disagreement from me, but you are wrong as far as Catholics go. The word tossed about before was "transfiguration," which is not right. The correct term is transubstantiation, and it is Catholic dogma. From Wiki's transubstantiation definition:
-
You Catholic? Priests transform the bread wafer and the wine into the actual body and blood of Jesus Christ. They can absolve sins. The Pope is infallible. There are intermediaries between God and people in the Cathlic Church.
