  1. Wishing Rkfast a Campy Record group.
  2. I don't know. I'll bet big databases get pinged for celebrities by curious people all the time. Not sure that this is the stuff of conspiracies and headlines. The people were caught and fired. It's a story for today but should fade quickly.
  3. Yeah. My guess is these were two nosy and curious people and they got caught. Seems like a BFD issue but it can't hurt Obama--I'd prefer that he express his outrage and then let it be done. Unless this is directly tied to a campaign, there are bigger issues in the election. C'mon RkFas--I mean Pasta Joe: there must be some anti-Obama spin here you're missing.
  4. Why would it hurt his career. Based on the (low on details) story released thus far, people at the State Department were fired for "breaching" (whatever that means) his passport. Doesn't sound like Obama's in trouble. Sounds like some mid-level folks in the State Department are. If they were feeding info to a campaign, it could hurt that campaign but it doesn't seem like it will hurt Obama. In fact, these sorts of things usually help.
  5. I really don't believe what I see on TV but that show The Wire had a feel of reality, and I'm sure at least expresses the frustration of the police, who get challenged when they do honest work. You have a tough job and I'm glad you at least get a good pension.
  6. I watch TV. I know what you all do with all the money in the evidence room. The political process needs a reboot. Get rid of everyone and try again. It's almost expected that politicians will be corrupt.
  7. I leave clothes at work so I carry less. Like you, I shower when I get here. I don't have any equipment besides the obvious: spare tire, CO2 inflation for tire, multi-tool. I have a light but I rarely use it. My commute is not safe at night (not from crime...just cars and crap in the road).
  8. I bought a cannondale cyclocross as my commuter. It's a lot like a racing bike but you can put beefy tires on it for when it's wet or to cut through glass/things that make tires go pop. Plus, I like the ability to use the second set of brake levers when I need to ride "tall."
  9. Most books about Jefferson paint him as a pretty odd duck. I've read 3 biographies and of course, he wanders through others. He rarely comes across as likeable.
  10. Know much history? Jefferson was a kook on a lot of topics, not the least of which was the economy. He thought that the US should be an agrarian society and longed for the agrarian ideal. Of course, he also had some great quotes about being anti-slavery, while owning and fathering children with his own slaves. And he was supposedly a total states rights guy but made the Louisiana Purchase. So go figure. Quoting Jefferson as a source is interesting but doesn't make a point in itself.
  11. The thought of Hillary answering that phone is chilling. Not that it matters. She's got no shot to win if she wins the Democratic nomination. None. Zero. Nada. As dissatisfied as people are with Bush, Hillary can't ride that to success in November. She's an uncharaismatic dud who pulls from an extremely limited demographic.
  12. Way back when, Bush said it would cost about 50-60 billion to remove Saddam and install a Democratic government.
  13. The Howard Stern Show.
  14. I....ag....ag...ag...agree.........wi....with........y....y..... I can't do it. Thanks for ruining this miniseries for me.
  15. What he said. I'd like to spare the world a year's worth of my posts.
  16. I have not read Page Smith but just added him in Amazon. Just finished watching the first two parts of Adams. Made me fall in love with the guy all over again. Stubborn, wickedly smart, vain, patriotic, and a great friend. His little pep talk to Jefferson RE writing the Dec of Independence was fantastic, and the enigmatic Jefferson is a perfect portrayal based on all I've read about him. I don't yet know whether it will top its Band of Brothers but HBO has a special knack with these miniseries that I hope they keep up.
  17. WSJ loved it. I would take the reviews of my life story from more literate sources than EW. I'm just sayin'.
  18. Tomorrow because the WSJ doesn't come out on Sundays. It will be co-headlined with the rate cut. Panic in the air but good that a private company came to the rescue of Bear Stearns. That's going to give JP Morgan some serious political clout.
  19. Tomorrow it will be all about the JP Morgan Bear Stearns deal.
  20. Why not just wipe left-handed?
  21. Of course due to the weak dollar. The point is that the weak dollar has some upside although clearly a strong dollar is better!
  22. The trade deficit is actually shrinking and the bright side of this is that US manufacturing (which was never nearly as bad as most armchair pundits believe) is looking more attractive. I don't mind this current bloodletting (hell, I'm 30 years from retirement!) as long as it starts to clot soon. If I pick up the WSJ and read "credit fears shake markets" one more time, I'm gonna puke.
  23. Stay on point Freddy. We're not talking about the Democrats. We're talking about the Republicans running roughshod over the Constitution. (On my list of amendments that I lose sleep about the Feral government ignoring, the 10th is the least of my concerns.)
  24. I'm sure Ben was searching for something that wouldn't get the comic strip censorship.
