True but also misleading. WNY had none of the real estate value boom over the last 10 years. My home value has decreased in 10% the last year, but it was up 200% in the 9 years before that. Real estate is traditionally a terrible investment. But safe.

Just a point to note. Franklin didn't face nukes but the possibility of violent anarchy was always a hair's breadth away for those early Americans. Tom makes a good point, over and again. Our way of life comes at a price. The very freedom that makes us leaves us somewhat vulnerable to attack. I'd rather live like that than the other: more gov't control and less freedom. That's me. If everyone in Gitmo had gotten a trial, no problem. But the problem is that many people, including American citizens, are being/have been held without trial. That's a big issue.

Davidson is a good school--I agree. My point was not that Davidson sucks, but that it's not worth the 40K/ year compared to a state school like Penn State for less than a quarter of the price. If the kid in the example wants to study communications, he can go to Penn State or Temple or a SUNY school and not burden himself and others with 160K in loans.
