  1. The high number guarantees are for the relatively few. There isn't a player on the Bills with 20 million guaranteed (waiting for the contract geeks to correct this).
  2. The NFL doesn't translate to normal work contracts. In the NFL, the owner can cancel the contract at any time by cutting the player and the player only gets guaranteed money. Thus, the player's only recourse for these somewhat one-sided contracts is to try to renegotiate them. So I have some sympathy for the NFL player in these situations--it's not easy to say "just show up and play--you have a contract" when the owners aren't held to the same standard. It's a situation unique in pro sports to the NFL because injuries can stop a career on a dime.
  3. Nucular is fine but it's a longer term solution because the lead time on new nucular plants is so long (and regulation is not all to blame for that--it's just a long process). The only solution that could help fix the immediate problem is less demand. Nucular, renewables, tapping places like ANWAR or other off-shore reserves, and higher efficiency/recycling devices will make a significant dent in energy prices in 15+ years. For now, we're stuck with the awful combination of high prices and high demand.
  4. You make it sound like there are hundreds of millions of hookers who will turn into a multi-hundred billion dollar tax base. You're obviously still looking for a clue.
  5. What a great country. A healthy person is now "frail."
  6. That surprises me. The VP wouldn't influence my vote--except to vote AGAINST the presidential candidate. Most VPs don't do jack squat, Cheney to the contrary.
  7. No. But it's a nobody gives a sh-- issue. If a candidate posted their feelings pro or con on this issue, I could give a !@#$. I'm focused on a lot of other topics.
  8. Yep. A VP candidate doesn't win you an election--but it can help you lose one. Hillary only drags Obama down.
  9. Joe liked Barack just fine before he got so uppity.
  10. There already was a Manhattan Project that resulted in almost limitless power that gets us off oil. It was called the Manhattan Project. Recycling energy (not letting so much go unused) is the wave of the immediate future. That's essentially what a hybrid is (a few extra systems that harness lost energy for practical use) and factories, cars, homes, boats, etc. will all shift to this.
  11. When I was on Verizon, I used to drop calls frequently. Except when I'm driving through certain parts of bum!@#$ PA, I never drop calls from AT&T.
  12. Verizon vs AT&T is odd. I was on Verizon and the signal bit rooster. AT&T has been 100% better.
  13. Really? I think Locke will pop right back to life once they return him to the island. It's resurrected him before.
  14. NY recognizing homosexual marriages from other states certainly throws a wrench into things.
  15. According to this article, the split between older and younger people on this issue is severe. http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSN2740828920080528 So this change is coming one way or another--it just may take a little longer until all the codgers die off.
  16. Thank you--exactly. I don't need an electric car that goes 75 but maxing out at 25 is not safe.
  17. The Tesla charges in 4 hours (mine for only 100K+) and there's really no comparison between CO2 emissions for electric cars vs gas ones. The biggest problem with the plug-ins is their battery life and the infrastructure issue. That said, what electric company wouldn't want more demand? I am confident that although the grid might not be built to withstand half our cars being plug-in, that kind of demand would find a solution in the market. The hybrid, to me, is a half-assed solution. I can easily make due with one gas-powered car and one electric, but there are no mass-produced electrics out there.
  18. Where. The. !@#$. Is. A. Plug. In? 90% of my drives are 10 miles or less. I would make great use of a plug in car if there was a reasonably-priced practical one. I just need a car that has heat, a trunk, and can operate OK in 6" of snow.

  20. Yup. Should have spent that money on some effective government program like the war on terror, drugs, poverty, education, or sex. I'd hate to see your reaction to government programs that don't work.
  21. Nothing says heterosexual like watching porn with your guyfriends.
  22. I don't feel like researching the link but there was a WSJ article this week pointing out that the safety records of mopeds is about 3x that of cycles.
  23. The abolitionists spent plenty of time villifying Abe.
