You think soldiers are getting screwed in 2008; the vets regularly went without pay in 1850. The government of 1850 had a pretty minimal hand in everyday life; today's Republicans are in every aspect of your life from your bedroom to deep into your wallet. Repubs are just about as socialist as Dems; the only difference is that Reps like to think they are different.

The current Republican party, however, has only little in common with the Republican Party of 1850. It's not like you can draw a line establishing Bush as Lincoln's intellectual and philosophical heir.

The player's leverage is the renegotiation after a good year. Again, no problem with Peters demanding a renegotiation--but he needs to do it from inside camp, not from his home.
