  1. Obviously it's a lesser of two evils argument, but Mitt can't get Republicans to vote for him (except by holding their noses) and Independents wont' get out and vote for him...I don't see him firing up much of a base. Romney can't attack healthcare credibly and that's one of Obama's biggest failures. Agree that he's finally owning who he is and growing a pair. It should help him finally vanquish the field. You can bet Obama will mention healthcare plenty of times in his populist messages. "I got you affordable healthcare" has been a repeated point over and over again already.
  2. I don't think Obama is going to win over a ton of independents, but his populist message is resonating with the public and Romney is the poster child for anti-populist sentiment. IMO, Romney vs. Obama leaves a lot of Independents on the sidelines, and certainly neither inspires independents. Plus, if the economy keeps up its little bit of momentum (real or not), people will not vote for change. The debt and spending reduction issues, ones that Romney might win on, have lost all traction in the public due to both the left and the right tanking all the real proposals. Obama has a better story to sell America: health care, brought troops home, economy growing, turning around worst economic crisis since 1929...a lot of horseshit but he's got a better and more coherent message than Mitt. Romney will put up the better fight against Obama than Newt, of that I have no doubt, but he will lose handily. Jesus and Joseph Smith, Mitt can't even get his own party to vote for him! The least of his idiocy on that topic.
  3. Doesn't matter who runs against Obama. He's going to mop up anyone who runs against him. Newt is a horror. Smart. Says some bright things. But I wouldn't want him to be the president.
  4. I can't believe everyone here still responds to this troll. Dave isn't ruining this place. The people responding to him are.
  5. He stopped mattering in 1984.
  6. While I agree with everything he said, I wouldn't refuse to visit the president over it. If I felt that strongly about visiting with our president, I'd be looking for another country, but that's just me.. But I also don't care that he did this. It's a good reminder about how free we are.
  7. Couldn't beat a rookie with the game on the line.
  8. The world will change when you are ready to pronounce this oath: I swear by my Life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for the sake of mine. --John Galt, edited by me
  9. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlas_Shrugged All the regs cut both ways.
  10. No left tackle. No #2 WR. Lost his starting RB half way through the season. Shuffled through 3 centers. Lost TE in last quarter of the season. Lost second best lineman. I'd say middle of the pack was not a bad performance.
  11. The point is, that like every car, you can do a lot better than the EPA rating. In the hybrids, you have even more control. That's not hype--pretty common knowledge.
  12. Against the NFL's best pass defense. Anyone still attacking Tebow has a serious issue. Maybe he's not the second coming but the kid is young and fun to watch. I wish the worst thing I could say about most players is that they are Jesus freaks.
  13. Hit it a few more times brother.
  14. You don't know what you're talking about or as another Prius driver might say....
  15. Unless her real world driving habits are NASCAR-like, Honda's little cars should get way better than 30 mpg. I used to be able to get my wife's Prius to 32mpg but it took work to push it that low. With work the other direction (and not much), I could could get it to about 50. Using engine braking, coasting, etc., I pushed it up to about 53mpg a few times. I never overinflated the tires or did any other mods. Just using a light foot for any of the small hybrids should easily get you into the 40+mpg range. I can even coax my 6 cylinder truck and sports car to mid 20s using some smart (not fun) driving techniques. Bottom line: Woman is an idiot.
  16. What was happening is that the modified seeds took root in the neighbor's property and Monsanto sued, alleging that the neighbor was using the seeds without a license. The allegation was not that the neighbor just sat still and seeds blew onto his property--but that the neighbor got hold of seeds illegally and used them. It sucks because if the neighbor did nothing, there's no way he can defend the lawsuit (not enough $$). And I guess that's the DJ case, if that's what the 270,000 are suing Monsanto for.
  17. I have not looked into this story (nor do I care to) but a few things struck me. (1) What are they suing for? Is this a declaratory judgment action? From the article, it sounds like they are suing to insure they don't get sued by Monsanto, which is a DJ action. That is odd. (2) The article is retarded and chock-full of hyped inaccuracies.
  18. RG3. The Bills are picking around #10 and both will be gone.

  20. I have to applaud MAgox for posting his 6 month predictions here a few times. Everyone can say in retrospect how they "knew the 2008 housing crash would burst" but that's BS. Or is it? To that end, what are your answers to the following predictions for 2012. If you participate, I'll lock the thread in early January and like the stock contest that fizzled out but I will award, I'll donate $100 to your charity of noncontroversial choice (as judged by me) to the winner. Predict for 12/31/2012: 1. Price of oil: (current is $99.6/barrel) 2. Dow close (current is 12099) 3. Spot gold price (current 1555) 4. Who won the US presidential race 5. Who is the winner's VP 6. 21. So your qualifications for a job is that you have worked in the service industry and have a pulse.
  22. But the premise of social security is that you make more money and pay more in--on the promise that you'll be getting more out. That is the whole foundation of social security. If you're just going to set up a plan to take more money from rich people, call it taxes and be done with it.
  23. There's that too. I skimmed some story this morning about how Newt is proposing a plan that allows younger people to opt out of social security but not companies. I may not have gotten the gist of his plan exactly right--I wasn't sure what his plan was for someone who opts out of social security and then hits 75 and has no dollars. My plan for the person is the TS plan. "You didn't save? Tough Sh##."
  24. Regarding social security, I pay a TON more into it on the premise that I will get more out later. Why should I pay more in AND get less out? What's the point of that?
  25. The cuts automatically kick in, well kind of. There has to be 1.2T cut over 10 years. So it can be backloaded. And god knows what games will be played in order to make things look like cuts that aren't. Amazing that Obama and Boehner were within days of cutting 3-4T from the deficit, then both their bases freaked out and this makeshift cluster-eff 1.2T committee/cut idea came up. And despite the credit downgrade, the country running into its debt ceiling, that the committee could not show America that it could act like adults in a time of crisis--despite all that--now they are looking to ignore the crisis again and not let even this 1.2T of cuts kick in. Shame on anyone opposing these cuts being made. These cuts are the tip of an iceberg of necessary spending cuts. Fighting these makes them all look like the selfish asses they all are. Expect another credit downgrade. A deserved credit downgrade.
