As far as "trying too hard", I dunno what else people would expect him to say about the WR room "we're screwed, I traded for a narcissist who whined his way off the team and now we are desperate to land a player in the draft. We will pay a premium for him. Oh please, please fleece us because we're desperate." Outside of the top 3 WRs in this draft you have Javon Baker and Legette that are true X receivers who look like they could develop into all-around players - you are likely looking at rd 2 for Legette and 3 for Baker, then you have a bunch of solid guys like Worthy, McConkey and Mitchell and a bunch of others who can play specific roles. We will pick up 1-2 of these guys and develop them. Dline may be the bigger target in the 1st because the talent is thin and drops off a cliff after the top 3-4 players.

What would we give then THIS YEAR that would prompt them to make that trade? Our 1st and 2nd followed by next year's 1st and 2nd? So we pick one guy and then don't pick again til the 4th rd in this draft?

Just looking at the teams behind us I could see the next 10 picks take him, especially the Ravens, so I'm going to advise you that mock draft sites are pretty much just video games only they don't have the benefit of actual information to base their metrics on. I don't see Legette touching the 2nd rd.

Nah, I'm not a betting man and I don't care too much either way. I think it'll be close. The main takeaway from my post was to say that I didn't think a rookie is going to come in and be our #1, not the way we play rookies. Could a Rookie end up with more yards than Cook? Sure. Will they end up with more targets? That depends on the rookie.

The Pass catching Depth chart will be Dalton Kincaid Shakir Curtis S James Cook Rookie Rookie Dawson Knox Unless there is a major trade up, which I don't expect. This is what we're going to run with this year.

You're right. Just sucks to be eating 31M in cap for someone not even contributing to the team. But if he was starting to be more of a problem than an asset you have to get rid of him.

Diggs simply dropped below the line on the Vicky Mendoza diagonal.

No one cares about this from a football perspective other than it creating a hole at a position. Eating 31M in cap space for a return of a pick NEXT year is the issue.

Not in NEXT years draft. 2nd rd pick in the next year is always devalued by 1 rd when considering compensation. It also doesn't help us draft his replacement at all.

Terrible return on this trade. How much of a cancer does a guy have to be behind the scenes for you to eat 31M cap hit and get rid of WR1.

I would be thrilled with that trade up for a DE

I love Beane. That said, I don't hace confidence that there will be difference making WRs near pick 28 and I don't see us hitting on an early rd DE because frankly I don't have confidence in this FO's ability to identify and draft DLmen. A rotational DT plays 40-50% of the snaps and is involved in every single play they are on the field for. A backup WR, which is what I believe will be left around 28, can run dozens of routes and will realistically affect 4-6 plays with catches and maybe a couple more if they can block well. Unless we get a gift dropped in our lap I don't really see how a top 5-10 WR is better for our team than a rotational piece with upside. We are going to put Shakir, Samuel and Diggs out there half the plays and drop Shakir to put in another TE in 12 personnel. There are realistically 4 WRs that could come in and convince this staff to sit Shakir or Samuel and we're not sniffing them barring a miracle.

Played 14 games for the CHARGERS last year, was a team captain and had just signed an extension. He got cut when the coach was axed because they wanted to give young players a shot and they knew they were going to be purging the cap this year. Picked up by SF at the end of the year.
