  1. I've heard from scouts that Nebraska has a very good strength program and that most the time it's unrealisitc to expect Nebraska players to add to their frame once in the NFL. You could be right about Suh, but just wanted to throw that out there.
  2. I liked Tate a lot after watching him playh in college. I'm a little weary about how his game translates in the NFL, where CB's and S's are bigger, stronger and faster. I think his success will really depend on what team selects him. If it's a solid team toward the back end of round #1, I obviuosly think he stands a much better chance. For some reason he kind of reminds me of Josh Reed.
  3. Derrick Morgan seems to be the consensus #1 DE in this draft, and most think he's a definite top 10 pick. I think there's a 50/50 chance he'll be gone by our #9 pick, so if you like him we probably would need to stand pat or trade up, not back. As far as Iupati is concerned I originally viewed him as a #20 pick, but with his versatility and some teams thinking he could play T, I could see him going higher. If a team is sold on Iupati they probably shouldn't trade down much further than pick 15 or so.
  4. 3 years $17 million??? So McNabb decided to give the Bills a big time hometown discount huh!?
  5. In talking with Russ Lande, he basically stated that Colt McCoy didn't do much to help himself yesterday. The biggest problem with McCoy is his lack of arm strength. Scouts noted that any throw over 5-7 yards really seemed to flutter/float. Some think he'll need to bulk up physically in order to add some arm strength, but Texas has a great weight program so expecting McCoy to be able to add strength may be unrealistic. Due to the arm strength issues Lande and associates said he'll probably be a career backup. Then again Russ Lande has Crompton (Tennessee) rated as his #2 QB (yes, that is not a misprint), so who knows.
  6. I think the Patriots would love Brandon Graham and I think the Bills would need to seriously consider Graham, so the Pats may be right to leapfrog the Bills if they want him. The Pats had a tough time pressuring opposing QB's last season and Brandon Graham can certainly do that. The Bills also have a glaring need at OLB and I prefer Brandon Graham to Sergio Kindle, he's thicker and tougher.
  7. My gut feeling is that Schobel has already informed the team that he intends to retire. The Bills told him to sit on it for a couple more weeks and really give it a second thought. If he decides to retire, the Bills will announce it soon after the draft to try and lessen the blow. A Russ Brandon marketing decision the whole way. Bad news is always taken a bit better after some good news (the draft).
  8. Lynch needs to lose 10-15 lbs and hit the weights. He looked especially big this past season and I think it hurt his game, he looked slow. I'm hoping the 2 strength coaches can get him in shape, he'll be a lot better off.
  9. Nice picture......Breaking Bad is an amazing series. Just discovered it a week or 2 ago and watched all of season 2 in about 2 days. New episode tonight on AMC at 10 PM, for anyone interested.
  10. Terrance Cody must be the most overrated player on this board this year. I'm shocked at how many people are eager to snag him in the 2nd round like it would be a steal or something. Taking Cody with the 41st pick would be a humongous reach. If Cody couldn't keep himself in shape leading up to the Combine (the time when players are doing everything they can do to impress the NFL brass) what makes anybody think he'll take conditioning seriously once he gets paid. I wouldn't be comfortable gambling on an unmotivated, out of shape guy like Cody until at least the 3rd round, and that would still be reaching. 370 lbs. and soft has hell, we're talking very little muscle. He's got potential, but he really needs to shed another 20lbs. and hit the weights.
  11. Butler, the LB from Washington will be long gone before the 4th round. He's arguably the best ILB in the draft, and they don't last into the 100's. It would also shock me to see Jeff Owens, DT, Georgia availablke in the 5th round. I think Butler is gone before the completion of Round 2 and Owens before Round 3. To get those guys in round 3 & 4 respectively, would be great value, especially Butler (a day 1 starter).
  12. Agreed. Taking Dan Williams at #9 is just as bad as John McCargo at #26, and we all know how that turned out. Dan Williams is a 2nd-3rd round prospect who has propelled a solid Senior Bowl into people discussing him as a sure fire first rounder, I don't agree. He's a project, and you don't draft projects in the first round, unless you're the 2000-20009 Buffalo Bills (Aaron Maybin). Let's hope things have changed at One Bills Drive. Good call on Cam Thomas, they are neck and neck for me as far as NT's are concerned, both are far better than Williams and Cody. Jared Odrick another DT would be a nice DE in our 3-4 system, but I don't see him lasting to our #2 pick.
  13. A thumbs up from the mock draft wizard, I'll take it as a compliment! I like both of these guys a lot. Owens is big and does not get pushed backwards, I'm really intrigued by him. I know a lot of people have been really high on Dan Williams as of late, and if you like Williams than you should definitely like Owens, he's actually better IMO. BTW has anyone heard that there are some serious character concerns regarding Dan Williams? I was basically told this by Russ Lande, he said he can't confirm the incidents, but said he heard from several scouts this past week that there are serious character questions. Could be a team spreading rumors in hopes to land him in the back half of round 1, who knows.
  14. The following two players, haven't been discussed much if at all on this board, and I thought it was worth mentioning them. The first is Donald Butler, LB, Washington. I've seen this guy going anywhere from round 1 to round 5 in recent mock drafts. I personally think he's one of the best ILB's in the draft.....right there with Spikes and McClain. This is just my opinion so flame away, but I think Butler is a better pro prospect than McClain. He's fluid, he has good speed for an ILB and he's a sure tackler. He fits into a 4-3 defense as an OLB or in a 3-4 as an ILB. Not a great pass rush specialist, but at 245 lbs. has enough bulk to play the run in the 3-4. As of now, I see him going in the 2nd round and I think whatever team takes him gets an instant starter with Pro Bowl potential. The Bills certainly have much more pressing needs than ILB, they need an OLB big time, so I don't see them going with Butler, but I wanted to put it out there that I really like the guy. The second prospect is Jeff Owens, DT, Georgia. This is a guy that I've seen going anywhere from the 2nd-5th round and I personally think he'll be a 2nd round pick when it's all said and done. He's thick, well built and can play NT in a 3-4 defense. Owens blew out a knee in the season opener of the 2008 season, and has since fallen off the radar a bit. I think the more scouts go back and watch this guy prior to injury and once he checks out medically he will fly up draft boards. He played alongside Geno Atkins another draftable DT prospect from Geaorgia, but they played more on a rotational basis so one can't truly discount Owens ability based on the fact that he played on a good D-Line. I believe Owens is a much better pro prospect than Terrance Cody and Dan Williams, and would be thrilled to land him in the 3rd round although I don't see him lasting that long. I don't think he will last beyond SD's 2nd round pick, as Jamaal Williams replacement. 2nd round probably is a bit high, but big bodies with the ability to be NT's in the NFL are highly sought after, so it's not entirely impossible. Donald Butler and Jeff Owens, two solid 3-4 defensive prospects. We'll see where they end up going.
  15. With the 9th pick in the 2010 draft the Buffalo Bills select................................. Sergio Kindle, LB, Texas
  16. One of the main guys for the Sporting News Draft Guide is Russ Lande, and I know from discussions we've had that Russ Lande is very high on Derrick Morgan. It's been discussed here before but Lande believes that Morgan is hands down the best DE in the draft and that no one is even close. For the record Pro Football Weekly has him rated as the #2 DE behind Jason Pierre Paul, who to me has bust written all over him. Pierre Paul has 2 years at community colleges and one season at South Florida. If Nix is true to his beliefs there is no chance we would take Pierre-Paul, with only 1 true year of experience. I don't understand all the Pierre Paul hype, is it actually possible doing 9 back hand springs in a row can raise your draft stock!?
  17. It appears the opinions on Derrick Mogans effectiveness in a 3-4 differ. Some say he does fit into a 3-4 others say he does not. Mayock who commented on it most recently said at his Pro Day that many scouts believe he will be most effective as a 4-3 end as he looked slow dropping in coverage. Ultimately it will come down to what the Bills brass thinks of him and if he'll fit in. Morgan is considered the #1 DE in the draft so he does warrant definite consideration in the top 10, and I think when it's all said and done he'll be gone between picks 5-10.
  18. It's not just one thing with Maybin, it's a collection of things with him that irks the fans sentiment toward them. If Maybin showed some promise last season no one would care what he's doing, the problem is he looked like a boy playing with men last year. Factor in that in his most recent pictures he looks like a bulked up WR, Bills fan are generally worried that this guy is quickly becoming a bust. I didn't like Maybin coming into the draft last year, and I still don't. Dude has the swagger and attitude f an All-Pro and the only thing he's done so far in his 1 year is embarrass himself.
  19. Maybin is the precise example of why teams interview guys at the Senior Bowl, Combine & Pro Day's. You want to make sure you're going to draft a guy who isn't going to let fame and money go to his head. You need to find guys who will come in work their arse off and desire to get better. It's pretty obvious by the haircuts, the partying, the lack of production, all the "look at me" posts on twitter, and the fact that he's not a hard worker when it comes to football, the Bills missed the fact that this guy was too immature to be drafted as high as he went. Don't forget Schobel was quoted as saying something like, Maybin need to work a lot harder if he wants to improve. I can just imagine and in your face cocky dude who's done nothing pissing the hell out of Schobel who is just the opposite. My early prediction is that Maybin looks just as lost in our new defense as he did in last years'. The guys awareness on the field was embarrassing, for someone drafted as highly as he was.
  20. The rationalization is the Bills and many teams will probably have 15-20 guys rated higher than McClain on the board so why take him at #9. I don't agree with taking a guy you have rated #18 with the #9 pick because you're basically bypassing 9 players that your entire front office have deemed more valuable than they guy you're picking. McClain is decent and has a chance to be a solid Pro Bowl player down the line, but I'm sure the Bills feel that all the players they have rated above him also have a shot at being Pro Bowl type players. No one will know what the Bills board looks like, but I really would be shocked to learn if they had him in the top 15. The film on this guy is not overly impressive IMO.
  21. Hate to be negative, I appreciate your enthusiasm during the offseason, but I hate this mock draft, hate it. We're drafting a DT who's a late 1st round prospect, and than following it up with an OT in the early second that is a 3rd round prospect. We've reached on players enough in the past, please no more.
  22. I think once McClain gets into the NFL where evryone is a little bigger, stronger and faster his limitations will be exposed much moreso than they were in college. He's a good prospect, but not great by any means. Have an honest look for yourself here (a 7 minute clip of McClain on youtube.com): I see a lot of arm tackiling, high tackling, missteps, lack of speed, easily blocked, poor angles. Surprisingly he looked decent in pass coverage. The main concern is offensive lineman seem to block him easily and once they latch on he is unable to get off the block. And yes I know this is only 7 minutes of a 3 year college career, but you can't discount it either. Would you be happy with what you saw on film in this clip with our #9 pick overall if you didn't know the name on the back of the jersey? I wouldn't. He's no where near the prospect Patrick Willis was coming out of college, not close.
  23. That's the info I was going off of in saying he fits in at 3 different defensive postions. I was actually in that chat when Russ Lande mentioned the versatility of Morgan, and he too is very high on Morgan. Mayock apparently feels differently, and because Mayock is reporting this coming off of his Pro Day you have to put some serious stock in what he has to say. I'm sure he was chatting with various scouts. Then again scouts know Mayock is a media guy so maybe they want him to believe Morgan is only a 4-3 guy so they have a shot at him. You really can't take anything as fact this time of year because everyone is so paranoid the guy they're targeting won't last long enough.
  24. good catch you are right on that one. This is from CBSsportsline.com: 03/16/2010 - According to NFL Network's Mike Mayock, "just about everyone in attendance" at Georgia Tech's Pro Day believed Derrick Morgan will be a 4-3 defensive end in the NFL -- not a 3-4 outside linebacker. Morgan struggled badly when asked to drop and change direction at the Combine. He was a bit better at Monday's Pro Day, but at 6'3/266 Morgan's best fit appears to be as a base, 4-3 right or left defensive end. Mayock expects Morgan to be drafted somewhere in the top 10-20, though it appears we can cross most 3-4 clubs off the list of potential landing spots. - USA TODAY football Don't really know where he fits into the Bills D after that nugget.
  25. I see what you're saying but in this case Lande no longer has an affiliation to any team, hence no reason to create a smoke screen. His honest assesment of McClain is a 15-25 round 1 grade. If you watch him closely over the entire season you will see a lot of the weaknesses that are being pointed out. He gives ground and gets handled by offensive lineman too often. A solid prospect, but not a difference/playmaker type you're looking to cash in with the #9 pick. I would not be surprised to see guys like Sergio Kindle and Brandon Graham get drafted before McClain because they can pressure the QB, Rolando can not.
