  1. The thing that irritates me the most, and others have pointed it out, is that Lee Evans does not attack the football. He keeps his hands tucked in up against his chest and waits for the football to hit him between the numbers. Meanwhile the CB going up against him will attack the football and either break it up or take it away. He's just not physical enough and doesn't have the heart that most prototypical #1 WR's possess. I truly believe all of the losing over the last 6-7 seasons has given Evans a "Let me just show up, do what's expected out of me and make my money" type of attitude. He doesn't seem to really be into the game and all the losing doesn't really seem to bother him. He's so used to losing and coming up short it's like he is almost numb to the emotions a typical player feels after a loss. There is no question that Lee is highly overpaid and I think it's becoming obvious he's not going to be one of our key offensive players moving forward (2-3 year outlook). I believe Chan and Buddy will be looking for a big framed, tall, physical receiver who can go across the middle and move the chains this offseason. Couple that with Stevie, D. Nelson and hope Easley can contribute with his speed and Evans looks expendable to me. The way I judge a player is I ask myself how would this game be different today if this player weren't in the lineup. Take a look at guys like Kyle Williams and Fitz's performances today. Those 2 went out and played at an extremely high level, without them the game is much different (for the worse). Now, evaluate Lee Evans. I think we do the same if not better if Lee Evans doesn't suit up today. And for those who think Lee is still drawing the double teams go back and watch this game. Polamalu was more often than not over the top on Stevie's side. Lee was singled up a ton in this game, and Fitz often doesn't even look his way and I don't blame him. On our first possession of overtime Fitz threw a great ball to Lee down to the 10 yardline and the guy couldn't make a play. No effort whatsoever to jump, dive, attack the football. Just waited for it to hit his hands and it appeared to be slightly tipped and fell incomplete. That play pretty much epitomized Lee's effort this entire season.......not good enough. How many times as a QB are you going to give a guy a shot to make a play for you on a 50/50 ball before you realize he just doesn't have it in him to make a key play? I think Fitz has already realized it and that's why you see Lee's production going down the toilet, there are guys doing a much better job given the opportunity. Many times when you're double covered you have to find the soft spot or the cushion in the defense and attack that spot. Lee just doesn't find a way to get open, which is why he can't be considered a true #1 receiver. When Freddy Jackson, Steve Johnson, David Nelson, Donald Jones and Quinton Ganther all go out and outproduce our $10 million dollar man in the passing game, there's no excise you can make. The o-line showed up and played, Fitz came out and played, and Lee came in with another grade D effort. His play with the exception of the Ravens game has been garbage. The last thing I want to point out is Lee is averageing 3 receptions for 46 yards per game. He's on pace to finish the season with - 49 receptions for 736 yards. Dude is going to make almost $200,000 per catch this season ($9.3 miilion/season). I don't care if he's double covered every single snap of every single football game, when you're making top 5 WR money 80-90 catch seasons should be the norm.
  2. According to buffalobills.com. Hurt his knee and walked to the tunnel where a cart waited to drive him to the lockerroom. Walked off with a noticable limp. He can't seem to shake these recurring knee injuries, which is a concern. I thought he polled injured vs. the Bengals as he was unusually slow in coverage.
  3. Mr Brittle hurt again, I'd expect him to be on IR by the beginning of next week. You have to start to wonder how many productive seasons McGee has left in him. He has not been able to stay healthy the last couple of seasons and he's aging. I was a big fan of McGee, but always thought we made a mistake by giving him the extension over Greer. While Greer, misses time too, I just thought the fact that he was younger made him the better choice for an extension. What do you guys think?
  4. Cam Newton is not the answer at QB in Buffalo. Nix values experience in his selections. Newton has only done it really for 1 year at a big time program, add to that, he's a run first QB, and theres no way he'd be taken as a high 1st round pick. Unlike Andrew Luck, Newton could gain a lot by coming back to school and competing at a high level in 2011. If he enters the 2011 draft he's at the very least behind 2 QB's (Mallett & Luck) maybe more. If he came back and played well he could position himself to be the #1 QB, which would never happen this year. Given the allegations that have come out about his father, I fully expect Newton to be swayed into coming out ASAP to start earning $$$$$.
  5. Anybody who wants to get the best player in next years draft. Anyone who has thrown in the towel weeks ago and is thinking maybe a nice consolation to this season would be the #1 pick.
  6. There are two team tied for worst in the league, the Carolina Panthers (1-8) & the Buffalo Bills (1-8). As has been discussed if two teams have identical records at seasons end the team with the easier strength of schedule gets the better pick (the thinking being they have the same record vs. worse opponents, thus making them the worse team). The Panthers schedule is as follows: 1 Sun, Sep 12 @New York L31-18 (6-3) 2 Sun, Sep 19 vsTampa Bay L20-7 (6-3) 3 Sun, Sep 26 vsCincinnati L20-7 (2-7) 4 Sun, Oct 3 @New Orleans L16-14 (6-3) 5 Sun, Oct 10 vsChicago L23-6 (6-3) 6 BYE WEEK 7 Sun, Oct 24 vsSan Francisco (3-6) 8 Sun, Oct 31 @St. Louis L20-10 (4-5) 9 Sun, Nov 7 vsNew Orleans L34-3 (6-3) 10 Sun, Nov 14 @Tampa Bay L31-16 (6-3) 11 Sun, Nov 21 vsBaltimore 1:00 PM (6-3) 12 Sun, Nov 28 @Cleveland 1:00 PM (3-6) 13 Sun, Dec 5 @Seattle 4:15 PM (5-4) 14 Sun, Dec 12 vsAtlanta 1:00 (7-2) 15 Sun, Dec 19 vsArizona 1:00 PM (3-6) 16 Thu, Dec 23 @Pittsburgh 8:20 (6-2) 17 Sun, Jan 2 @Atlanta (7-2) Combined Record of Opponents: (82-61)57.34% The Bills schedule is as follows: 1 Sun, Sep 12 vsMiami L15-10 (5-4) 2 Sun, Sep 19 @Green Bay L34-7 (6-3) 3 Sun, Sep 26 @New England L38-30 (6-2) 4 Sun, Oct 3 vsNew York L38-14 (7-2) 5 Sun, Oct 10 vsJacksonville L36-26 (5-4) 6 BYE WEEK 7 Sun, Oct 24 @Baltimore L37-34 OT (6-3) 8 Sun, Oct 31 @Kansas City L13-10 OT (5-4) 9 Sun, Nov 7 vsChicago L22-19 (6-3) 10 Sun, Nov 14 vsDetroit W14-12 (2-7) 11 Sun, Nov 21 @Cincinnati 1:00 PM (2-7) 12 Sun, Nov 28 vsPittsburgh 1:00 PM (6-2) 13 Sun, Dec 5 @Minnesota 1:00 PM (3-6) 14 Sun, Dec 12 vsCleveland 1:00 PM (3-6) 15 Sun, Dec 19 @Miami 1:00 PM (5-4) 16 Sun, Dec 26 vsNew England 1:00 PM (6-2) 17 Sun, Jan 2 @New York 1:00 PM (7-2) Combined Record of Opponents: (80-61) 56.74% If New England holds on and beats the Steelers, the Bills and Panthers will have identical SOS both at 82-62. In the end I see the Bills finishing with the 2-3 pick in the draft because it'll be extremely difficult to finish worse than the Panthers. I see the Bills as a 3 win team and I don't think the Panthers get another 2 wins this season, time will tell.
  7. The second video down, is the actual in game call.....gotta love Gus Johnson's call. I've never heard a human make the noise he makes at 0:29 in the video. Gotta love Gus!
  8. Fitz underthwos a wide open Stevie for the ball game. A good QB makes that throw look easy. I like Fitz, but it's throws like this that show me we need to find a franchise QB. His completion % has been very poor as of late, and I think it's dipped below 60% on the season, which won't get it done.
  9. Cordaro Howard, who was absolutely manhandled last week @ KC, is in the process of being replaced by Mansfield Wrotto, another street free agent. RT will be a high priority come this offseason.
  10. I'm somewhat encouraged with our success in the passing game the past few weeks. My main concern, though, is I don't believe our offense is a good fit for a team playing in Buffalo. Today in a game that was very close throughout we came out and tossed the rock 51 times compared to 19 rush attempts. Some may argue the run wasn't working so we abandoned it, but I don't see it that way. The problem is our run formations are pitiful and it's rather obvious when we are going to run. We rarely run playaction, so when Fitz turns to hand the ball off all defenders are crashing the box to defend the run, so far it's been working. Also running out of the pistol offense WILL NOT work in the NFL, defenses are simply too fast. You have Fitzpatrick lined up 3 yards behind center, and then Freddy another 3 yards behind him. When Fitz turns to hand the ball off Freddy has little time to build up momentum toward the line of scrimmage on the handoff. If and when the time comes when this franchise is actually competing in November and December, you can't expect this type of offense to be successful in Buffalo winters. On the majority of our pass plays there is absolutely no threat of a run because Fitz is in a shotgun formation with an empty backfield. I think we need to do a better job of keeping the defense guessing run or pass, and when I'm able to call out run or pass with frequent ease from my couch, I sure as hell know the opposing defensive coordinator can do the same thing. 46 yards rushing in a game that was a 1 score contest for 60 minutes is inexcusable. There is a reason we are 0-8, and our defense deserves the majority of blame, but our lack of a running game is just as big of a problem. Chan's running schemes are not working and it kills us late in games.
  11. You mean the guy who dropped another 2 passes today, on his typical I'll wait and let the ball come to me instead of attacking the football and snatching it out of the air. Fitz's faith in Roscoe and Stevie and their production compared to Lee Evans is proof enough to me that Lee isn't worth half of what he's making on this team. Lee Evans And Chris Kelsay symbolize everything that is wrong with the Bills. Overpaying for mediocre (Lee Evans) or downright bad (Kelsay) football players.
  12. Yes, I admit I have no clue the extent of McGee's injury. I have no idea of how much pain he is in. With that said, it's my belief that McGee is soft. He's gotten nicked up a lot the past few seasons and he clearly can not play through or with pain. He's now practiced back to back weeks, last week limited and this week fully, and once again he won't be suiting up today. Missing McGee is a huge problem as it drives Florences playtime way up and he is terrible. When talking to the media on Wednesday you could tell McGee was bracing reporters on the fact that he probably won't play this week, without actually saying it. I said it when it was first reported that McGee got hurt and I'll say it again......it would not surprise me to see the team put him on IR. I know our secondary has been seen as a stength recently, but it's clear that it's becoming a weakness. McKelvin is okay, but not what you would have wanted out of a high 1st round pick. Brandon Flowers, who i liked more coming out, is becoming a shutdown corner in KC, and McKelvin is average at best. Florence is bad, really bad, IMO. McGee, can't stay healthy and is aging. Whitner is okay in run support and very below average in pass coverage. I'm not liking our situation at CB at all moving forward.
  13. I wouldn't want Locker with our second round pick at this point. If he's proven anything this year it's that he's not ready to play in the NFL next year. I don't want a project QB who can't compete in his first season with a high second round pick. I really hope the Bills brass weren't drooling over the chance of moving up into round one to nab Tebow, as was reported by Adam Schefter. If they were interested in Tebow they would surely consider Locker, IMO.
  14. I'm unimpressed with Akeem Ayers. After watching him a couple of times, I think he has poor instincts and he's a high tackler. I think Robert Quinn, on the other hand, looked like a beast last year. Having to sit out a year and the fact that he'd be a OLB in our defense and I don't see how Buddy can take him with a top 5 pick. I'm hoping the stars align and Luck declares and the Bills finish with the first pick. The way the Bills have been playing lately though it's tough to see us finishing worse than the Carolina Panthers. If we both finish with the same record, the Panthers will still beat us for top pick due to our strong SOS, so we must finsh a game below them.
  15. I've always thought Cutler was highly overrated. A lot like Marshawn Lynch in that he got hyped up after a year or 2 of okay play, nothing more. I remember when the Broncos were 8-4 and the Chargers were 4-8, and the Cutler led Broncos found a way to not make the playoffs. That 4 game losing streak included a home loss to a weak Bills team, where Cutler threw a terrible interception in the endzone. Ever since that game I've seen Cutler as a very average QB who will struggle to ever lead his team to the playoffs and never have a deep playoff run. An interesting point about Cutler that I'm surprised wasn't mentioned in the article is: Cutler has never had a winning season in highschool, college, or the pros.
  16. And if the Bills were 7-0 rather than 0-7 their opponents record would be 26-24, right around .500. My point.............when you suck and all of your opponents get easy wins vs. you your opponents for the most part are going to have decent records. I don't think the Bills are absolute garbage, but until they win games that they should, they're pretty damn close to garbage. The offense is average, the defense is utter garbage.
  17. The Bills will do one of the following: 1 - Take Andrew Luck (if he declares and he's their #1 QB, don't think he'll come out though) 2 - Take Ryan Mallett if he's their guy. 3 - Take the best defender that plays in the front 7 (Robert Quinn, the DE from Ohio St., Dequan Bowers, etc.) 4 - Trade down and take Mallett or best front 7 defender. A few weeks ago I would have said 90% Luck stays in school, but the momentum and talk around Luck's draft status seems to be turning. I think his finish to the season will have a big part in his decision. If he lights it up and finishes with a big bowl game, he may have to come out, especially if it looks like he's the clear cut #1 guy. On a sidenote: I know Buddy Nix puts a huge emphasis on players that have excelled for 3-4 years in college, which may knock Luck and Robert Quinn a bit down on Bills boards. Luck obviously will be finishing up his redshirt sophomore season and only has 2 years experience, and Quinn is a Jr. who won't be playing at all this season due to suspension. They're both very talented, but knowing Nix's philosphy perhaps neither is the Bills pick. Don't forget Nix had his hand in the selection of Phillip Rivers, and he emphasized that they loved Rivers because he did it for 4 years.....competed in 4 bowl games, and was the player of the game in all of his bowl games. I definitely think the Bills will be looking for players that have been very productive college players for 3+ years with their high pick.
  18. I kind of have the same gut feeling heading into this week. I'd be a little hesitant to say "breakout" because it's tough to have a breakout game touching the ball 10 times or so, but I see a Spiller TD this week as well. I think KC's defense is a bit overrated and expect Gailey to come up with a decent offensive game plan to attack it. I'm predicting we establish the run in this game, which will then open up the passing game. Now our defense that's another story.
  19. My vote for worst player would maybe just have to go to TRENT EDWARDS. Cut from the Bills. Backup for the Jags and when he gets the opportunity with the Jags he throws 2 picks in 1 half and gets hurt for a week. Dude is totally crapping out of this league. I'd be surprised to see him stick on a roster after this season.
  20. Went to the KC game 2 years ago when the Bills hung over 50 pts. on the Chiefs and won the game. It was a midseason game and the Chiefs were pretty miserable and the Bills were a couple of games below .500, nonetheless it was a fun game. The fans were respectful and knowledgable. The atmosphere was so so, but I suspect it will be much better for you as they're a good team this year. There were some good restaurants and a lot of different things to do in the downtown KC area, fun time overall.
  21. A question for those following the CBA ordeals closer than I am. Is it possible that part of the compromise to have a season in 2011 is to have a rookie wage scale in place for the 2011 draft? The reason I ask is if the Bills happen to land the #1 or even the #2 pick it becomes a lot more attractive for a team to move up without being on the hook for boatloads of money. If the Bills don't absolutely covet a player and another team does we could come away with multiple high picks, which would be a great opportunity to start rebuilding our defense. The more the Bills lose the more we should be rooting for a rookie wage scale for the 2011 draft.
  22. I was at the game and came away very unimpressed with Locker. I went in with low expectations and he didn't do anything to change my position. He may be banged up, but you have to be able to play with those injuries in the nfl. He panicked under pressure, took too many sacks, missed open receivers, all in all a very poor showing. Don't see how any team can grade him as a 1st round talent.
  23. In my eyes he doesn't seem to respond to pressure well. Which is a big no no for the NFL
  24. Locker vs. U. Of Arizona on the road tonight. Heads up for anyone curious, could be a Bill next year.
  25. Best case scenario the ravens score 17 pts. Worst case scenario they score 41, so i'll take the middle. I'm expecting the bills to give up 27 to 31 pts.
